Ralia's POV.
The air in the room whirled up to the ceiling, creating a portal of white light.
My eyes widened in surprise, but my head immediately dropped as my wolf bowed in respect. They were here to deliver the news themselves, which made my veins surge with fear.
The four elders clad in white suits stood outside the portal, standing in the air with their eyes sparkling solar green light.
“When the soul of silver and the beast of iron unite,
The moon shall bleed, and peace shall shine in celestial light,
Two hearts thus become one, ruling with power and might. If two hearts separate with each of their peace, one’s breath will permanently cease.”
The four elders talked uniformly, their voices ringing through the dark atmosphere.
The sharp scent of magic titillated my nostrils upon their presence and I struggled to breath as it sent shivers down my spine.
The light portal widened as they slowly disappeared into it, their voices still lingering in the air, making my ears vibrate.
The moment the portal disappeared, the lights returned, and my father lifted his head to meet mine, “That was the prophecy.”
My brows furrowed in confusion, “What does it mean?”
Dad sighed, clasping his hands together in front of him, “Your marriage has been arranged to someone we least expected, Ralia.”
The words stabbed at my heart, making bile rise in my throat, “I thought the elders no longer arranged marriages anymore.”
My legs were threatening to give out, but I stood strong. Dad had told me stories of how elders arranged marriage in the ancient years, but we were living in the 21st century!
So how come they still arranged marriages?!
“You see, as the alpha of this pack, your relationships are often decided upon by the mood goddess because whoever becomes your fated mate has the power to either make us stronger or break us up,” Dad explained, his tone dripping with so much seriousness.
I scoffed, my cheeks burning from rage, “How's that fair?! Who am I supposed to get married to? Who's the beast of iron?” I asked all the questions in one heartbeat, assuring myself that maybe the beast of iron was someone I could consider spending my life with even though I'd not met them.
Dad narrowed his gaze, “Alpha Artik, leader of the Bloodreign Pack.”
I burst into laughter, but it was nothing like the sound that came from happiness. It was loud and mocking.
“Behave yourself Alpha Ralia,” Dad mind linked me.
And the laughter disappeared into a frown, “Does the moon goddess not realize we're enemies? Why in the world am I getting married to the man I so desperately want to kill?” I asked, my voice booming with frustration.
Dad rose to his feet, his black coat floating softly at the sides, he was getting angry.
“Well, you're going to have to change your plans because, as it stands now, both packs need to unite. Enough of the war!” Dad snapped.
But I really couldn't understand making peace with those aggressive wolves. They had a track record of hurting our men, this marriage was basically throwing us into their ferocious den.
“I refuse to be a truce bride!” I growled.
“You can only refuse if you have your mate,” my wolf reminded me, making my jaws clench.
“Alpha Ralia, you will get married to Alpha Artik. And it isn't up for debate,” Dad stated, his eyes flickering yellow and returning to brown.
Tears gathered at the brim of my eyes, but I fought them back, “Until now, I've never refused your orders,” I said, recalling how my father would always prefer to have me learn martial arts when the other kids at school were playing kid games.
He had always trained me to be the perfect Alpha and I never rebelled, because it was the only way he showed love to me–whenever I obeyed him.
But the thought of sacrificing my chance at love, to be with a ruthless Alpha was too much. F*** me for not finding my mate sooner. If I did, the moon goddess messengers wouldn't have chosen me to be a truce bride.
“Don't make me do this dad, I really don't want to,” I muttered softly, hoping he would listen and maybe do something about it.
He shook his head softly, turning his back, “It is beyond me, Alpha Ralia,” he said, his voice sounding cracked.
“All you can do is prepare for the wedding. It will happen in two days,” he added.
And with that, my claws elongated, my blood boiled as I sprinted out of the antique mansion, heading for the woods as my bones shifted seamlessly into my white wolf form.
I yelled like my life depended on it, scratching on the tall trees as I ran, and they turned to ice.
My wolf was raging, and my heart was breaking. Could my mate feel this too?
I wondered and right there, I closed my eyes, trying to connect to his feelings and I felt the sharp jolt of pain, causing me to drop to my knees.
There were footsteps around me, and the more I heard them, the more the pain increased, making me feel the same adrenaline rush that my mate was using to run.
My eyes flashed white as I scanned the woods, searching every nook and cranny for him and I spotted a big black wolf with red eyes running towards the woods with so much speed.
His scent lingered in the air and my nose hung in the air, sniffing like my life depended on it. He smelled spicy and delicious like gingerbread.
And that strangely sent sparks of desire running through my veins.
My mate is finally here!
My heart fluttered with excitement though the pain still kept me on my knees, panting. But I felt at peace, because I knew I could finally reject the prophecy since I found my mate!
However, when the wolf got closer, he transformed back into his human form. Shock consumed me when I spotted those pairs of blue eyes.
“You're my mate?!”
