We left and headed to the hall. ''Hey Caleb we’re going to go to the restroom, you can wait for us with Randy,'' I suggested.
He grunted in response still angry about the punch and trudged to the reception. I turned to Marie who was looking at me like I had won an Oscars award.
"What?" I asked. She grinned at me and pulled me into the bathroom.
"Who are you and what have you done with my best friend?" She asked.
I rolled my eyes at her and gestured to her to tell me what she was on about.
"You have never talked to a guy without saying more than two words….and, and you weren't stuttering!" she said excitedly.
She was right, I don't do well around guys. But there's something different about Caleb, I feel comfortable talking to him, it's just....natural. I explained this to Marie and she grinned wider.
“You like him." She stated.
I sigh. ''Marie, I literally just met him." I deadpanned.
"Okay fine, you will like him." She tried again.
"And it will be pointless because he won't like me back, just like with Thomas."
Thomas Rogers, he’d been my crush since like fifth grade. Marie always asked me why I liked him, seeing as he was kinda one of those mysterious lone-rangers. But that's just it, were both quiet and outcasts. While Marie found him creepy, I found him sexily mysterious. He was also pretty gifted in the looks department. My crush was pointless though, he'd never even acknowledged my existence, I mean if Michelle Hardley couldn't get his attention in her bright pink hot pants and flashy crop top, no one could.
She scoffed. "Thomas doesn't talk to anyone, at least this guy seems social." She makes a point.
"But look at him Marie, why would he ever like someone like me?"
"Ugh, would you get a clue Ally!" She turned me towards the mirror forcefully. "You've got to be stupid to not realize how beautiful you are."
"You're just saying that," I mumbled.
She sighed and rolled her eyes knowing I wouldn't budge.
As she went into a cubicle, I looked at my appearance in the mirror like she had told me too. I looked so pale and I had no curves and I was straight as a pencil. What guy could ever look at me that way?
I heard a click and turned to see Marie in a red flannel shirt under her black leather jacket paired with her black studded shorts and studded combat boots. If you haven't guessed her favourite colour is black.
We left the restrooms and headed to the reception. We suddenly stopped at the scene in front of us.
"What the-?" I mutter.
Randy and Caleb had their backs to us and were bent over. Randy had Caleb in a headlock. At the sound of my voice, Randy lets go of Caleb and they both turned around.
Caleb was spluttering and red in the face and Randy, dropped his head down and was scratching the nape of his neck. Marie and I looked at each other than turn back to them. ''Explain!'' I demanded at the same time Marie said, "Good headlock Randy!"
I gave her a look and she shrugged innocently, I turn back to Randy expectantly.
''Well uh I was talking to Caleb about sports and I told him I was a wrestler. I just wanted to show him a move.'' he smiled innocently.
I gave him a stern look. He bowed his head in shame like a little child after a scolding. I sighed. ''Hey Al, I need to talk to Randy, you and Caleb can wait outside." She said looking a bit nervously, ignoring it I nodded leading Caleb outside.
I turned to him. 'Eh, are you okay?'' I asked him.
He nods. ''I'm just wondering why all your friends hurt me'' He mumbled. I chuckled. He sighs.
''Please tell me that there aren't much more friends to go!'' he said. I laughed, he was lucky I had no more friends then.
When Marie finally came out we headed down to a local cafe. I ordered hot chocolate and Marie asked for a black coffee. I shook my head still wondering how she could even drink that as Caleb ordered a cappuccino. We sat and chatted for a while, telling Caleb about our school, Marie's upcoming championships and other things about our town.
After a while we leave, realizing it was time to pick up our younger siblings. Rodney looked almost sad when he saw me. I knew it's because he's having so much fun. He came up to us and gave me a hug and then Marie as she was like a sister to him.
Millie followed shortly, wrapping her tiny arms around Caleb's legs. He laughed and lifted her up. She then turned to me. ''Hey Ally-gator!'' She greeted grinning. I chuckled.
"Hey, Millie!" I replied.
We left the center while waving bye to Terry. Caleb lived a good fifteen minutes away from us so we exchanged numbers and went our different ways. Marie decided to come over to mine and yes I mean decided, she didn’t ask to come over, she just decided to. Once we reached my house, I and Marie went upstairs.
"What do you want to do? We only have a month left of the holidays now." Marie told me. I sighed and nodded. ''Eh...how about we try to get a tan?'' I asked.
"Oh no, I can't get a tan, it totally spoils the whole pale scary thing," she says gesturing at herself. "But I'll go anyway and just put on a load of sunblock."
I rolled my eyes. “Let’s just change.”
I put on a red bikini top and matching bottoms. Lucky Marie had her swimsuit in her gym bag, it was like she knew she would be coming over. We head out to my backyard.
It had a small pool and some beach chairs beside it and some stairs leading to our deck where we had barbecues in a corner and had a huge flower bed for my mom. We sat lazily on the beach chairs. I put on some sunblock and closed my eyes.
''In coming!'' I jumped as I was immediately splashed with water. I opened my eyes to see my six-year-old brother in the pool looking at me innocently. I gritted my teeth. ''Why did you do that?!'' I asked. He shrugged smiling. I let out a frustrated sigh, all I wanted was some peace and quiet. I looked at Marie to see she was even wetter than me. She glared at my brother like she was about to strangle him but he just ignored her and swam singing happily to himself. How evil can he be? He somehow found immense pleasure in annoying me. I sat back down and closed my eyes again. Only to be interrupted by the sound of my phone. I picked it up.
''Hello?'' I asked. The person laughed. ''You know Ally you should really check the caller ID before answering.”
It's Caleb.
I shrug even though he couldn't see. ''I know but I was too lazy. What’s up?'' I asked.
''Well my mom said that Millie and I should get out of the house and enjoy our new town. But we have nowhere to go....'' He trailed off.
''Oh okay, I'll text you my address so you can come over...oh and bring swimsuits,'' I tell him.
He agrees and I hang up. ''Rodney your girlfriend Millie is coming over,'' I tell him with a sly smile. He turns red.''Sh-she isn't my girlfriend.'' He says. I laugh at his embarrassment. ''Not yet.'' I sing. He glares at me and turns to continue swimming.
My mom pops her head out tell us we have guests. Millie runs out already in her swimsuit. ''Hi Rodney, Hi alligator, Hi Marie!'' She said we all greeted her as she and Rodney started to play. My mom told me that Caleb was getting changed. I nodded and closed my eyes again.
Suddenly I felt myself being lifted up, I let out an ear piercing scream and before I knew it I had been thrown into the pool. When I resurfaced everyone was laughing at me, my eyes zoned in on Caleb and I glared.
I tried not to look at his abdomen but damn, he was fit. I slowly made my way towards him, ready to attack but I was interrupted just when I was about pounce on him. He looked a bit frightened and took a few steps back. When I finally calmed down Marie let me go. I instantly went after Caleb who was quick to dash the other way. I chased him until he was just at the edge of the pool and I kicked my legs a little harder and pushed him into the pool. I threw my hands in the air in victory. ''Never celebrate too soon,'' Caleb said popping his head out of the pool but before I could reply he grabbed my waist and pulled us both in.
I instantly felt tingles where his hands were but forgot about them once I hit the water. I smacked him upside the head. ''You i***t!'' I said.
He groaned and rubbed the back of his head letting go of me and I couldn’t lie I felt kind of disappointed when he did.
''Children come get some ice cream.'' My mom called. My head snapped in her direction. I loved ice cream. I loved it so much that I didn’t even care that my mom had called me I child even though I was eighteen.
