Chapter One

The sound of my footsteps is the only thing to be heard as I walk through the woods. A dusty trail is laid out in front of me as I make my way deeper into the trees surrounding the little town I call home. As the wind picks up over the trees, I can feel it nip at my face. Looking around, I pull my jacket closer to me. Bare trees, leaves covering the ground, and the early morning fog gives the place a haunting atmosphere. The sun is just coming over the horizon, I would like to say it is about seven in the morning. As I enter a clearing I take a seat on a large, flat boulder. Closing my eyes and lying back, I begin to doze off listening to the sound of the river that is just a few yards away, past the edge of the clearing. “Apollo Kullin Wulf, you better be getting home now, or we will be late,” I hear my twin sister screams from the house. I take a second to consider my options, stay here and sleep or go to today's college lecture. After a moment I got up, not feeling like getting into a fight, to head home before she came looking for me. Nearing the little shack we call home, I remove the hood of the jacket from my head. Biting my lip, a bad habit I have. I open the back door, finding my sister in the small kitchen connected to the living rooms. “Morning,” I greeted Athena while taking my jacket off. You see my sister, Athena Kailynn Wulf, and I are complete opposites. She has long golden blonde hair, warm brown eyes, thin with milky white skin. While I have dark brown hair, ocean blue eyes, muscular with sun-kissed skin from working outside. I’m covered in tattoos and scars, and she has little freckles all over. Although we are both pretty tall with me at six feet, seven inches, and her at five feet, nine inches. “Is mama up?” I ask while walking into the living room and down the hall towards our mom's room. “Yes, she was asking for you,” Athena replies, following me. "I have to work at the daycare center after class, so would you mind being home in the afternoon,” she demands more than asks. Rolling my eyes, as I'm home every Tuesday. “Sure, I'll be home,” I reply, hoping to please her, even though it is a given. Knocking on the door lightly, I twist the doorknob pushing it open filling the house with the sound of a creek. I see our mama, a fragile older woman, lying on the bed. Making my way over to her bedside, I take in the dusty old room. Seeing a picture of her and our papa sitting on the dresser. “Mama you were asking for me,” I state in greeting. She tries to lift herself into a sitting position using her weak arms. “Yes, I was wondering if when you go into town you could go to the market,” She said in a voice barely over a whisper. “Yes mama, I could go to the market, was there anything, in particular, you wanted me to get,” I replied while giving her a sad smile. Sitting down in a chair by her bed and taking her fragile hand in mine. “Would you mind getting some things to make chicken noodle soup,” She asks, trying her best to smile. “Okay, no problem,” I say, "now, how about we get something to eat.” Standing up, I turn around and direct Athena to go start on breakfast for mama. She complies leaving the room. “I'll see you once I get back home from class and the market,” I inform her before slowly making my way to the door. With one last glance in her direction, I shut the door. Making my way into the kitchen, I say bye to my sister, knowing that she will catch up to me shortly. I throw my jacket back on and head to the small college, my sister and I attend. Going towards town I take in the late autumn scenery. The small town we live in has a population of about two hundred and is only about two miles from one end to the next. There is one main road going through the middle of town, it being the only one leading out of it. And with any small town, everyone knows everyone, not a secret is kept. But, there is one secret we all keep, only because we have no other option. As I near town the roads go from dirt to old cobblestone and the sound of old trucks becomes clear. The smell of fresh baked goods fills the air as I pass the bakery. People chat away in the market just a few yards away. It is a small old fashioned town, most of the buildings are at least two hundred years old. The college is even older at around three hundred years old. Stone Ridge is home to a secret we all know, but refuse to talk about. Well, until the full moon we pretend it is not a thing, but even then there are still howls in the night and wolves walking the streets. The secret that we all know, but don't talk about is that wolf shifters are real and everyone in town is one, except for the rare human that found their soulmate in this town. "Apollo, you ready for the lecture in history," Athena said as she came up behind me while I was stopped at a newsstand right outside the college gates. "No, but do I have a choice," I replied, looking at her from over my shoulder. Looking back at the news board, which is where all local news is listed, I see that there is a paper talking of a new family in town. "That's strange," I say while pointing it out to Athena. "Agreed," Athena states, "wonder if there will be any new students," once she has read the paper. Taking one last look at the board, we make our way towards the history lecture hall. Reaching the doors we head in and down the hall to the mythology/folklore in history class. Entering the room we head up a set of steps to the right of the forty-something rows of seats. Walking down one of the back rows, we take a seat towards the middle of the row. Taking a piece of paper and a pencil from Athena, we get ready for the lecture. “All right class," Professor d**k says, " today we will be going over…," continues while writing something about Ra and Khonsu, the Egyptian sun and moon gods, on the board at the front of the room. The professor goes on with the lecture talking about the mythology around the Egyptian sun and moon gods. Halfway through class Athena bumps my shoulder as the door opens, and an amazing smell comes into the classroom. In walks a boy, about 19 or so with beautiful strawberry blonde hair, heading to the front of the room. "Welcome," the professor greets, " and what would your name be?" ending the statement with a question. "Hello, my name is Blaine, I'm new in town," The boy, Blaine, said before handing the professor a piece of paper. "Oh, I see, well have a seat somewhere," Replies the professor, "there is one on the back row." As the professor returns to the lesson, Blaine turns and walks up the steps. Heading down the back row to an empty seat next to Athena. The class goes on for about two more hours before the professor finally ends the lecture. Collecting our things Athena and I turn to greet Blaine to the town. "Hey, you're new in town right," Athena welcomes him, "this is my brother Apollo and I'm Athena." "Welcome to town," I say with humor in my voice, "I promise it is not as run-down and quiet as it seems." "It's nice to meet both of you," He replied with a smile. "So, have you been able to have a look around town," I asked, "maybe you could join me on a trip to the market?" "I haven't gotten the chance," He answered, "it would be nice to join you." "Well, I should head on to work," Athena said as we walked out of the classroom and into the hall. We part ways outside the college gates, with a simple bye. Blaine and I begin walking towards the market, passing through the town square, which is nothing more than an old court house and a large open yard. "So Blaine, is there any reason why your family moved to some random small town in the middle of nowhere," I ask, hoping to strike up a conversation. "I don't really know, maybe we all just need a change," He replied, biting his plump lips. "Well, that's as good a reason as any," I joke, making him smile. "Or maybe it was the fact that my twin and I got into more trouble than my parents can handle in the city," He says with a laugh. Laughing along, I show him to the market entrance, before walking to the first stand. I see that it is full of fresh vegetables grown in the fields surrounding the north side of town. "So, what are you buying?," Blaine asked, while looking over the produce on the stand. "Well, my mom was wanting chicken noodle soup, but we don't have the things at the house," I answer, picking up a carrot and celery stock. I look around the stand spotting some other root vegetables, collecting them into a small sack. After paying for the vegetables, I move to the next stand. I see that it is full of herbs and some spices. Grabbing a few sprigs of fresh basil, and a few other herbs, I pay. "So, how long have you lived here?," He asked, while we walked back towards the entrance. "All my life," I answer, "born and raised, … well, I still need to go to the butcher shop and bakery, if you want to join me?" "I have nowhere else to be, and it would be a good chance to see more of the town," He answered. And with that I lead us down the road and across the street to the bakery. Opening up the door, I let him walk in first. Following after him and shutting the door behind me, a girl greets us at the counter. "Hello, how may I help you?," The girl asks, walking over to the display case full of different types of pastries, pasta and a few other things. "I need some noodles," I answer. Grabbing a bundle of the noodles, she walks back over to the counter where we can pay. "That will be…" She says, After paying we walked out and over to the butcher shop. There I bought a couple of chicken breasts and a few ounces of broth. "Where do you live?," I ask, looking over at blaine. "Oh, down the road some ways," He answers. "Okay, well I'll walk you home then," I state before starting in the direction he pointed in. "You said before that you have a brother," I question wanting to know how many family members of his moved to town. The more humans here the harder it is to hide. "Yes, my parents, younger sister, and twin brother all moved here with me," Blaine answered. "Twin brother, does he go to college?," I asked, already knowing he was not in our history class. "Yes, Robin takes mostly language arts classes," He replied. "What about your sister?," I ask. "She goes to the school house, and is a few years younger than us," He answered, as we walked up to his house. "Oh, she will like it there, the teachers and students are decent," I say, "well, I should be going." "Bye then," He says, opening the door to his house. I reply with a simple bye, before heading towards the trail that leads to our house. Walking down it I kick rocks around, once I get to the house, I open the door. Walking in and to the kitchen, I set the bags on the counter. Grabbing a pot and filling it with chicken broth, before washing the chicken, and putting it on to a pan to cook. Cutting on the stove, I place the pot of broth and pan of chicken on the eye. I wash and cut the vegetables, as well as the herbs. Once I'm done with that, I put the noodles into boiling water. Finishing up with the chicken, I cut it into small strips and put the chicken, vegetables, and herbs into the pot. Putting the pan to the side and cutting off the eye it was on, I walked back to mama's room. I opened the door to find her sitting up reading a book. "Hey mama, how was your day," I ask, "I got the chicken soup on the stove." "It was good," She replied, "how was class." "Just fine mama, we got a new student," I tell her. "Really that is lovely," She said with a smile. "Would you like to go sit in the living room?," I ask, trying to get her out of the room. "No, I'm just fine here," She replied, taking my hand. "Okay, well I'll leave you with your book," I say, walking out of the room and back to the kitchen. Checking on the soup, I begin to wash up, by the time I am finished the soup is done. I cut off the burner it was over. Before going to the attic, pulling down the ladder. I climb up into the attic, go to lay on the mattress. I check the small clock that sits on a box next to the mattress, I see that it is four in the afternoon. Meaning that Athena should be home soon. I rested there for a few minutes, when I heard the front door open. Getting up, I go to the ladder climbing down it. I walk to the kitchen, seeing Athena putting soup in bowls. "Hey, Apollo can you take this to mama," She asked, handing me one of the bowls. "Yeah," I answer, taking it from her. "I'll be back there in a minute with ours," She states. I walk back to mama's room, opening the door and walking over her bed. "Mama, I have some soup like you were wanting," I say, handing her the bowl. Athena walks in with the other bowls, handing me one of them. I take a seat in one of the wooden chairs we have in the room. While eating the soup, mom asked Athena the same questions about her day. When the topic of the new family came up. "So, that new family, how big is it," mom asked, before eating a spoonful of soup. "It is the parents, a set of twin boys and a younger girl," I said looking up at her. "How old are the kids," She asked. " We don't need any more little kids running around the woods, especially human kids,” She continues on. "I know mama. The twins are our age," I answer, while looking at Athena, " and the girl is a few years younger." "Oh well, that's better than some kid who could get hurt," She says with that motherly tone," just make sure to keep the town curse a secret." "I'm sure the whole town is on this one," Athena finally added, as we finished our soup. "Well mama, you should get some rest," I tell her, after grabbing our empty bowls. "Good night mama," Athena tells mom, while pulling the blanket up around her. "Good night," Mom replied. I tell mom to have a good night's rest, before heading to the kitchen to clean up. Putting away the last of the soup and washing the dishes from dinner. Once I'm finished I say good night to my sister, before climbing up to my room. I removed my shoes and laid down on the mattress. After about four hours of trying to get some sleep, I give up. I decided to go for an evening run. Climbing down the ladder after putting my shoes on. I walk out the back door, removing my clothes and placing them to the side. I shift into my wolf. Taking off into the woods I run until I have reached the river that runs along the west side of town. There I curl up by a tree and finally go to sleep. I jump awake when I hear thunder roar in the sky. Then, I see lightning strike the ground just past the trees. Getting up, I make a run for it, hoping to get home, before I get struck by lightning. Reaching the house I grab my clothes and run inside. Quickly climbing up the ladder, I put the wet garments in the clothes hamper. Grabbing a towel and an old dressing robe, before heading to the bathroom for a quick shower. Once done I quickly head back up the ladder. Pulling on dry clothes and climbing back down, I go to check on my mama and sister. Once I had made sure they were still asleep, I laid down on the couch with a small blanket. After a minute or two I was able to get some more sleep. When I wake up the next morning Athena is in the kitchen cooking breakfast, eggs and bacon by the looks of it. Looking out the window I see that it finally stopped raining. Grabbing a cup out of the cabinet, I go over to the sink to fill it up. After taking a large gulp of water, sit it down on the counter. "Good morning," I say to Athena, while getting plates from the cabinet. "Good morning," She replied, taking the plates from me. "I'll need to run to town later," I tell her, get one of the plates full of food. "Okay, mama might need a new book," She informed me, as we walked back to mom's room. "I'll ask," I replied, opening her door and walking in. She is sitting up reading one of her books. "Mama, we brought you something to eat," Athena tells her, handing her a plate. "Thank you, sweetie," She thanked her with a smile on her face. "I was wondering if you needed a new book," I state, "I will have to go into town later, to get something for the house." "Oh, can you see if they have any new ones in stock," she asked, with a hopeful smile. We finish up with breakfast soon after that. Athena takes the plates to the kitchen, while I get ready to leave. After saying bye, I put on my jacket and boots before heading out. Once I get to the road, I begin to walk towards town. Reaching the shops on the other side of town, I go to the bookstore first. Opening the door I was greeted by the cashier. Walking over to a shelf labeled 'New'. I started looking for one that mama has not read yet. Finding one, I walk up to the counter, buying it. Leaving the bookstore, I begin to head towards the hardware store. As I start towards the store the delicious smell of fresh rain water and lavender floods my senses. Halfway there, Blaine comes into view. He is talking to someone who could be his clone, who I am guessing is his twin. Walking over to them, they turn to look at me. "Hey, Apollo," Blaine greets. "It's nice to meet you," Robin says, "I'm Robin, Blaine's twin." "Hello, You two should join me," I say, in hopes of getting some help, " I just need to run into the hardware store and then to the market." "Sure, we don't have anything else to do," Blaine says, showing that gorgeous smile and Robin agrees with him. "Thank you, it would be nice to have some company," I say in thanks, before continuing the walk to the store. Once we get there, Robin opens the door heading in with us following behind. I walk to the back to grab what I came for. Going to the counter, I pay for the items, and walk out heading for the market. We continued the walk, talking about random things. When the market comes into sight, speed up. Walking into the market, I go over to a stand that has canned goods on it. Picking the things we would need for dinner. I pay before turning to the twins. "So, would you guys like to come over for a while," I ask. "I would love to," Blaine answered, his brother gave a shrug. "Okay, just follow me," I state, as Blaine takes some of the bags from me, "You don't have to carry that." "But, I want to," He replied, with that smile. I nod, walking out of the market with the twins in tow. Blaine is going to kill me if he keeps smiling like that. Once we reach the trail to the house, we head in. Going to the kitchen, I set the bags on the counter and began to put things away. Once we are done with putting everything away. I get the supplies out to 'weather' proof the house. In reality, it is more about preventing rain from leaking through the roof. Taking them around back, I get out a labber. Using it to climb up onto the roof. Blaine and Robin follow behind me, one by one. "Apollo," I hear Athena yell, looking over the edge of the roof I see her standing there. "Yep, what you need," I question, as she looks up at me. "Nothing, I was just wondering who was with you," She replied, and began to climb up the ladder. Reaching the top she pulls herself over the edge. Looking around, she gives a slight sniff. After a few seconds she noticed the twins. "I don't think we have met," She said, looking at them both. "No, I don't think so," Robin replied, " I'm Robin, Blaine's twin." "Well it is nice to meet up," She replied, "I'm Athena." They shake hands, before Athena gives me a look. Returning the look, I quickly came up with a plan. "Hey, Robin," I state quickly, " there are some limbs that fell last night, would you mind getting and pulling them into the back." "No problem," He replied, walking to the edge of the roof. "Athena will show you where they are," I tell him, as they begin to climb down the ladder. Turning back around, I grab one of the tarps and place two of the ends on one side of the roof. After doing that with the other side of the tarp, Blaine grabs the second tarp and does the same on the other side until the whole roof is covered. "I was wondering if you would like to hang out in the courtyard, they play music there on Wednesday," I ask, wishing I could say it was a date. "Sure, that sounds fun," He answers, making me smile when he does the same. "Okay, well it doesn't start till after dark," I inform, "but, you're welcome to stay here till then." "Alright, that sounds like a plan," He responds. We climbed down, and I put the ladder away. Before we head in I make sure that all of the supplies have been put away as well. We were met with a surprise when entering the house. Robin had Athena up against a wall, sucking her face off. While I stood there with wide eyes, Blaine just stood there with a look along the lines of 'I'm telling mom that you're sucking someone's face off and we haven't even been here a week', which is pretty funny. They jump apart, trying to hide their guilty looks. Athena straightens her clothes and Robin wipes the lipstick off his face. "Haha, this is gold little bro," Blaine said in a cheery tone. "Oh, f**k you, I'm only two minutes younger" Robin replied with the same tone, "and don't act like you were not trying to get into Apollo's pants." Looking over at Blaine after that announcement. I see that Robin is telling the truth, or so, I am guessing as Blaine's face is blood red. "Is that true?," I ask, in hopes of it being so. He turns to face me, taking a step this way. Placing his hands on the sides of my face having to reach up to do so, as he is only five feet seven inches. "Yes, it's very true," He answers, as he leans in to steal a kiss. Oh Gods above, his lips are so soft. "Aww," I hear from beside me coming from the two i***t's standing there watching us. Blaine pulled away, and I wish he had not. I just stare at him for a minute. I could not believe it, he kissed me. My mate kissed me, wow. "Apollo, you okay?," Blaine asked me after a few moments of me looking into space. "No, Yes, No," I answer, coming back from my internal freakout. "So, no," Athena says, with a knowing smirk. Stupid twin telepathy, can not keep anything to myself. "Yes, No," I say in a rush, "yes, I'm okay." I don't think I'm okay. "I don't think you are okay," Blaine states, just as mom walks in. Mom comes to stand by Athena and looks up at me. "And who are these young men?," Mom asked, turning slightly to look at Blaine and Robin. "Hello, it's nice to meet you, ma'am," The twins replied, happily smiling at her. Blaine gently took mama's hand in his. "I'm Blaine and this is Robin," Blaine informed her of his brother's name as well as his. "Oh, I'm Claudia Rose Wulf," Mama says cheerfully. Before turning to Athena and I. "So, why am I just meeting these lovely young men?," Mama questions us, as if we had done something wrong. "Well, umm, You see," My sister and I rushed out, stumbling over our words. "They came over to help with the roof," I finally got out after a few moments of thinking. She just looks from me to them for a long moment. "Okay, well it is nice to meet you both," She states before walking back to her room. We hung out in the living room for a few hours before it was finally time to head into town. Athena and Robin decided to stay in, so we grabbed our jackets and a blanket. Walking to the courtyard takes about thirty minutes at most. Once we reach the stage, I lay out the blanket before taking a seat on it. Blaine sits down after me, before leaning on my shoulder. I place my head on his, after the music starts. We lay there relaxing for hours until they stop for the evening. "That was nice," Blaine announced cheerfully. Standing up, I offer my hand to him. "Yes, it was," I replied, happily taking his hand in mine after grabbing the blanket. We walk to the market and get something to eat before taking him home. When we get there I walk him to the door, pulling him close I whisper in his ear, "I hope this happens again sometime," right before I kiss him. He leans into the kiss more, wrapping his arms around my neck. At this I lick his lips, and he parts his lip in response. Our tongues danced around in his mouth, as I explored it. Running my hands down his back, resting them on his hips. As I do so he moves in a way that makes my hand go to his butt. Grabbing at it, he moans out, making me do it again, but harder. A few moments later, the porch light flickers on, before the front door swings open. Out walks his dad, I gulp, as I say a silent prayer to the higher powers, While jumping away from Blaine. His father coughs, clearing his throat before saying, "And who are you?" "Im-m…uh… A-Apollo...S-Sir," I stud-er out after a moment. s**t, I did not think I would have to do this for at least a little while longer. And his dad is massive, like I thought I was tall, he is around four, or so inches taller than me. "Dad, this is my boyfriend, Apollo," Blaine tells his dad with confidence. Wait, he said boyfriend, YES. "Well, then," His Dad starts, "it's nice to meet you, but if I catch sucking my boys face off again, and you will be in for a rude awakening." "Yes, sir," I reply, "I understand, sir." And with that I place one last kiss on Blaine's cheek, before saying good night to them both. The walk back home is uneventful, and as I open the door to the house it is quiet. Mama and Athena must already be in bed. Going to the ladder that leads up to the attic, I climb on up. I flick on the light as I walk past. Kicking off my shoes before, laying down on my bed, thinking of the day and its events. Falling asleep a few short hours later, getting the best night of sleep I have had in a long time. HE IS MINE!!! I have waited years for this.
