Chapter Thirty-Eight Trembling, Ruth slumped against the back of the chair. Her stomach churned. She dropped her head to her chest and closed her eyes. Thank you, God. I was foolish to come here alone. I know that now. Thank You for sending Trevor to save me. Footsteps trod across the wooden floor, then hands gripped her arms. She looked up to see Trevor kneeling in front of her, concern etched on his face. “Ruth, are you all right? Did she hurt you? I could have lost you.” A shaky laugh bubbled from within. Ruth shook her head. “No, I’m fine. Actually, fine might be overstating things a bit, but she didn’t physically harm me. I’m not sure how well I’ll sleep for a while, but I’ll be okay.” He drew her to him in a fierce hug. She clung to him as silent tears trickled down her cheeks. “
