"Where were you?" she asked, her face etched with a deep frown as she crossed her arms in front of her. Her gaze bore into me, searching for answers that I wasn't ready to give.
I took a deep breath, choosing my words carefully. "I was at the office, taking care of a few things," I replied, leaving out the fact that I had met Lucy and Jason there. Secrets had a way of unravelling everything, and I didn't want to risk that just yet.
