Back into his single apartment, Desmond returned. His apartment wasn't so spacious, infact it was just a single room apartment having the toilet and bathroom as the only the other room attached to his bedroom. And in his bedroom, he had a small kitchen, a small space where he entertained the guest he rarely has. The bulk of the room was occupied by his musical instruments. Desmond was a musician. He sang and recorded his songs by himself. Though he wasn't a popular musician, but he had a special talent that wasn't just noticed yet. At some point he had a very serious issue with his parents because of his choice of career, they would complain and complain but he was bent on focusing on only music. His dad died trying to convince him and so his mum has sworn to never have anything to do with him anymore.
It was only Amy that seemed to believe in him and his talent. But his only muse seemed to have left apologizing for only God knows what!. Trying to call her once more, he picked up his phone. As he dialed her phone number, he immediately placed it close to his ears. He was surprised, the phone was not ringing. He brought the phone down to check the screen, but it was point black. The battery had just slipped off when he tried placing the phone closer to his ears. He was using the old buttoned phone, and it's battery was smaller for the space it was supposed to fit in. "Mtchew! Stupid phone." he muttered to himself as he tried to fix the battery into the phone. This time he managed to wound rubber bands round the phone to hold the battery and the phone together in one piece. He turned the phone on and tried the number again, this time it didn't go off but it wasn't connecting. Her phone was switched off. This time around he tossed the phone on his bed.
He was beginning to get hungry, so he went straight to his pot. He then opened his pot as if he was expecting some miracle. He didn't prepare anything. He was frustrated and went straight to bed by this time darkness was gradualling dispelling the light. It was getting dark already. He slept hungry that night, it wasn't something new, he was used to it already.
Amy arrived safely, it was a local flight that was to last for just forty-five minutes. Throughout the journey she was only thinking of one person, and that was Desmond. She had traveled for miles to break the news to him, she didn't expect to hear what she had from him.
She was to take another taxi that was to take her home. As she waited for her taxi, she deviated a little and was almost run over by an oncoming truck, but she was brought back to her sanity by its loud horn. "Sorry sir" she apologized to the truck driver that was seen rather than throwing insults at her. He didn't care to know what she was going through,he just rained insults on her.
Her ride soon arrived, he apologized for coming late and they immediately zoomed off to her home.
Back home she was welcomed by her boyfriend, David. David was the son to the CEO of the company that Amy's father worked. It was not as if Amy's father wasn't doing well financially but because of a certain deal that Amy's father signed with David's father, for that reason they had to get married. One would begin to wonder if such kind of deals were done in this 21st century. In the deal, Amy's father would own a whooping 20 percent of the shares of the company when David legally marries Amy. This seemed a good deal for David and his dad. David loved Amy so dearly, they attended the same University but they were from different faculties. He was from management sciences while she was from law. While in school, David made numerous advances towards her but all to no avail. He did so until his four years in school elapsed. He didn't know what to do. She wasn't just attracted to him, he was the type that was seen around parading the school premises with his flashy car. He was too extravagant for her liking.
The moment he found out that her dad was working for his father, he immediately convinced his dad to strike such a mouth watering deal with her dad. The deal was so huge that Amy's dad couldn't decline.
On hearing about the deal, Amy was despondent. "How could you do such a thing to me daddy?" Amy queried. " My daughter, all I have done and all I am still doing is for you and your brothers, one day you will get to understand my actions" he argued. " Please you need to marry David as soon as possible and after marriage you will get to love him, I'm very sure of this" Amy's father further stated. Amy was not so convinced with her father's decision, She knew her mother would have understood her if only she was alive.
When David welcomed her. She shoved him off and went straight to her room. It was exactly 2 weeks since he had her way into her. Seeing him always reminded her of her problems. "You know it's me and you forever right? The earlier you learn to live with me, the better for us and for our baby". David echoed as she rushed into her room. Ever since she found out that she was pregnant she despised David even more for being so inhumane.
She once complained to her dad about how David was maltreating her, but he blatantly did not want to hear more about the matter. He always assumes that she is making up all this stories so as to avoid getting married to David. " Go home to David" he said as if chasing her away from his house.
It has now become even more evident and vivid to her that her daddy was just being greedy. He has turned into a self centered liar, he wasn't doing it for neither her nor her brothers but for himself alone. She dared not further complain to him about David forcefully getting her pregnant, she already knew how he would react. This was not usually the situation, she was typically a daddy's girl. She always has her way around her daddy but somehow she has to get used to the new normal. She knew she had to talk to someone about everything that has been going on. She knew better than to report to the police. The David's family were so wealthy, they would buy their way out. So that was why she decided to visit Desmond, her best buddy. They usually discuss everything else apart from family matters. She was so secretive with matters that concerned her family. But this time around she knew she would explode if she did not speak out.
