WHO WILL BE HER MATES?

Chapter 5

In the police station, Amy was asked to write her statement. Not too long after, David was caught and he was brought straight to the police station where he was interrogated and locked up.

Amy was beginning to get worried, David's father was extremely wealthy. She knew he wouldn't last a night in the cell and so she began thinking of what to do next. She also knew if David got out of the cell, she would be in big trouble.

Just as she was getting distressed, someone walked in. He entered to report about some missing phone. He appeared worried, it was the second phone he was buying in a week. It was the latest iPhone that was worth over a million naira. He wasn't complaining because it was expensive, but because he doesn't know how it just mysteriously disappears.

Something caught her attention, his face looked familiar. It was as if she knew him from somewhere but she couldn't tell exactly where. He spoke with eloquence, and as he spoke she was more convinced that she has heard this voice from somewhere. "Was it in church? Or it was in the University" she puzzled. Somehow she seemed to have forgotten about her plights. The more he spoke, the more she was recalling. "Mr Bryan!" She interrupted. "Excuse me miss, do I know you?" He paused to ask. "Yes it's me Amy. You usually handle tutorial classes for us back in the University" she answered." University of Benin sir" she further replied. " Oh Amy! Yes I can recall your face. You know you were like Miss Uniben in those days" he replied. "How have you been and what has brought you here?" He asked." It's a long story sir" she started.

Amy explained everything as it has happened, he was angry to hear that such a thing was still happening in this present generation. "This is modern s*****y" he exclaimed. "David and the others would be dealt with according to the provisions of the law" he assured her.

Bryan has just graduated from law school and now owns a very big law firm. His father too was a renowned lawyer, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN).

"Don't worry dear, David will be brought to books, what he has done is uncalled for, it has never been heard of anywhere. He will be kept just where he belongs" Bryan reassured.

Soon after the police station incident, Bryan offered to drive Amy back to David's house to pick up whatever belongings she had left. She knew she was not going to remain in his house again, finally she was free again. "Maybe I should mark this day to celebrate in the future as the day of my Independence" she thought to herself. " But where do I go from here?" This was another thought that crossed her mind. Her joy was soon over, she was stranded. She could not see going to her father's house as an option, she knew her father would not accept her back into his home after all that had happened. Besides that, she knew that someday the police would also come looking for him because he was more like an accomplice. Amy could be visibly seen worried as she shook her head and sighed continuously.

Bryan could not focus on his driving any longer as he watched her express her emotions in such a manner as she did. He could not help but to ask "What is wrong dear? Is anything the matter?" He asked as he put his hands on her cheeks as if trying to console her. "I'm stranded Bryan. I don't know where to go next. I can't possibly stay back at David's house, nor can I return back to my father's house. I'm so confused" she opened up. At this time, a tear of drop flowed down from her eyes. "Is that why you are feeling so sad?" He rhetorically asked." A beautiful girl like you should not be crying. It's not good for your face, you know" he said, trying to console her.

"Come and live with me in my house. There is enough room for a whole community" he suggested.

Bryan lived with his parents in their mansion. He was the last child of his parents, his older sisters were since married off. And thus, he was right that there was more than enough room for her " No please, you've done more than enough for me and I will forever be grateful" she argued. " Besides, I'm not sure if your family would accept me," she added.
