Werewolves

Macey I wasn't sure of what was happening but I had an inkling that Amawi Kingdom wasn't what I was used to. Like for example, what with the three wolves, as one of the triplets put it, and the triplets saving me? Was I really imagining the whole thing or was it just a coincidence? The reason why I was thinking like that is because if the three dogs were wild dogs, they would have mawed me already even before the triplets found me. But here I was. Safe and sound. And what with all the care they were taking if me? What with them sitting beside me in class? And did they just say that they would come to visit me tomorrow? I didn't understand all that as my aunt came into the room. “How are you feeling M?" She asked me and I looked at her. “Aunt, have you ever heard of werewolves?" I couldn't be crazy, could I? “Wh… ahem… why do you ask?” She choked on her saliva and asked. “Just answer me, do you?" I insisted. “I don't know. How would you feel if they were real and not just a myth?" She asked and that's a question I hadn't even thought about. “I have never thought about that but… aren't they said to be dangerous? They are ferocious creatures who are led by their thirst for blood and they are always angry. So, wouldn't it be dangerous having such beings?” At least that is what I had read in books. "Maybe, they could be ferocious and all. But what if they could be tamed to live with the rest of the world in peace in that not even humans would realise that werewolves live among them?" She threw the ball at me again. "Then I guess that would be agreeable. Imagine being able to run long distances, being powerful and … I think it would be an amazing feat,” I said feeling all giddy. I felt the way I felt when mama would read me bedtime stories and I always imagined myself as Aladdin floating around on my carpet. That would be super. “What if you yourself were a wolf? Have you ever imagined that you are maybe destined for more than just being a poor girl who lost her parents to a murder?” Aunt Fiona asked me and I thought about it seriously. "If I ever had such powers, my first mission in the book would be looking for my parents' murderers. The police closed the case and said that it was a wild animal but… wait a damn minute! Could there be real werewolves and they killed my parents?” I asked and then sighed feeling stupid. "But why? Mama and dad were the human-est people I have ever seen. I wonder why anyone would ever kill them. And look at me talking about werewolves as if they were real," I said and then laughed deprecatingly. “Aunt F, do you think I am going mad?" I asked her, feeling off my hinges. "No baby. I think you are making a lot of sense,” aunt said and I smiled. At least I had someone to support me in my delusions. "And why did you ask about werewolves? Do you think you saw any?” That topic again. "No. It's just that… it's nothing aunt F," I said because she would just laugh at me. “Just say it. I promise I won't laugh," she said to me and I looked at her to see whether she was lying but she looked sincere. “I… I think… I think that the triplets are the wild dogs I saw,” I talked very quickly to make the words get out of my mouth as fast as they could. She didn't say anything and just looked at me long and hard. She then sat on the end and pulled me into her hands. “Oh, baby. It's okay," she said as she drew circles on my back in a soothing manner and I decided to relish in that comfort. Maybe she just didn't want to tell me that I was going mad. “Can I ask you something?" Aunt F asked me and I nodded my head as she let me go. Somehow, I was happy that I decided to come with her. “What of the triplets are in love with you? Have you seen the way they are behaving? I think they have fallen for you," aunt Fiona said with a cheeky smile that made me blush scarlet. That would be a dream come true but we all know that if wishes were horses… “Stop teasing me. How can it happen? They are brothers and can't share a woman," I said and my aunt just chuckled. “You can never tell, there are no rules against brothers marrying the same woman especially in the world we live in, anything can happen,” she said and I wished that anything could happen to me. "But like they said, be careful and if you really need to walk, always ask Linda to go with you. Or even one of the triplets," she said with a wink and smiled at me. She was teasing me but I knew better than to hope for something like that to happen. The triplets were always followed by beautiful women like that Cassy or Casey or something. I knew that I didn't stand a chance. “Come for dinner,” aunt said and I stood up and my legs almost gave out but I steadied myself and followed her. That's when I realized that my dress had been changed and I stood there rooted to the ground looking at myself. "What? Why aren't you coming? Oh, that? I am the one who changed you," she said and I felt my heart return to its place. I didn't know why I would have even thought that one of the triplets helped change my clothes. As we ate, uncle Leo and aunt F were talking about this and that and uncle was talking about his work day in the castle and my mind wandered again. I imagined myself as the wife to the triplets living in that castle. My life would be exactly as I always imagined it. I wasn't even following their conversation when I blurted out of the blue, “can I visit the castle?" They both stopped their motions and looked at me. “Of course. The triplets would be thrilled to hear that you want to visit their home," uncle Leo said and aunt F slapped him gently as if he had said something that he wasn't supposed to say. “We will ask the triplets when they come to visit tomorrow," aunt F said. “So, they are coming here now? Wow! The kings in my house," Uncle Leo said again and aunt slapped him again but painfully this time. “Sorry, ouch! Who is to blame me if I am getting a little bit excited? It's not every day that they visit a commoner's house,” uncle Leo said and smiled sheepishly. “No one told me that the triplets are the kings," I said and the two looked at me again with uncle Leo's spoon full of rice hanging in the air between the plate and his mouth. I didn't understand what I said to get such a reaction.
