Looks & Feelings

Macey I blinked my eyes, opening them as my eyelids peered through my eyelashes. Looking around, I realised that I was in my room, on my bed. But how? Wasn't I dead? Or this is how heaven should look like. Shaking my head to clear those absurd thoughts, I heard footsteps approaching. A moment later, the door was pushed open and the sweet scent of chicken soup assaulted my nose. “You are awake?” My aunt Fiona asked and I nodded. “Have some soup,” she said, offering me the bowl. Taking it as I sat upright, I contemplated asking her how come I was there and not dead. “Don't you want to ask me something? Then spill it out,” she encouraged me and I did just that. The curiosity was getting the best of me and she could tell that. “How did I get here?” I asked and aunt Fiona smiled. “What do you think?” She asked back, her question annoying me. “If I knew, I wouldn't be asking you now, would I?” I pouted and she chuckled. From her tone, why did I feel like I wasn't going to love the answer she was going to give? Either way, that did not kill the urge to know what the hell happened. I was still curious to know what kind of s**t transpired after I was stalked by those three big wild dogs. Though they were beautiful to be frank but they were so scary. “The triplets brought you home. Said they found you fainted by the road,” she answered, her answer making my eyes widen and my face flush red with embarrassment. Of all people in this kingdom, why them? I can't believe my bad luck. But wait… the triplets found me after encountering three identical wild dogs? Is this just a coincidence or… No! That's absurd. Werewolves don't exist. That's just a mere fantasy. There's no way in hell that could be possible. I must be going nuts after being scared half to death. “'What are you thinking?” My aunt asked, pulling me from my thoughts and I shook my head. “Nothing,” I lied with my eyes on the bowl of soup. “The guys are still here. You should thank them for making sure that you are safe,” my aunt said and walked away before I could protest. Shit! Can this get any more embarrassing! I cursed inwardly. A moment later, two of the triplets walked in. I kept my eyes trained on the sheets as I fondled them with my fingers. “Hi Macey, how are you feeling?” One of them asked, walking to stand less than a foot away from my bed. His hand stretched to touch mine and I moved my hand away out of instinct. Realising what I just did, I raised my head to look at him and I didn't miss the fleeting sadness that flashed on his face before it disappeared. I wondered it it was just a figment of my imagination. “I'm feeling good now,” I replied awkwardly. “What were you thinking walking alone in the forest? Do you think you are some kind of a superhero?” The other asked, his outburst making me frown. Why was he scolding me? Most importantly, why did it sound like he was angry at me? “Abriel!” The other reprimanded him . “No Jariel. Someone has to make her understand that she is no longer living in the city. She can't just walk around alone, especially not in the woods. It's very dangerous,” Abriel fumed. “I am grateful that you found me and brought me home but I don't appreciate the tone you are using on me. What I do and how I do it should be none of your f*****g business,” I retorted, annoyed. I hate it the most when someone tries to dictate my life. The man glared at me, obviously not pleased with my comeback. I stared at him without blinking, letting him know that I was the least intimidated by his glare. Abriel stormed out of the room, his actions confusing me. Why was he acting like a protective boyfriend? “Ignore him, his temper isn't good. He is just worried about you,” Jariel said, offering me a smile. My heart almost melted from that blinding smile and I had to force myself to look away before I could pull him and slam my lips against his. His presence coupled with his Intoxicating scent was messing with my brain. I nodded, not trusting myself to say anything. “Abriel is right though. It's dangerous to walk alone through the forest no matter the time of the day,” he added but in a nicer tone. “‘Why?” I blurted out even when I just wanted to agree with him. Why was everyone behaving like the forest was a no go zone. Then Linda's words hit me. Was the wild dogs what she meant by surprise? Did she know about those terrifying creatures? “Just listen to us. Don't wander around alone again.” I nodded. Even if he didn't tell me, there's no way in hell I was looking forward to seeing those creatures. Jariel smiled at me before leaning over and kissing my forehead. A familiar feeling struck me. It resembled the feeling of being nudged by that wild dog. Ignoring the feeling, I smiled at him. Uriel's pov After my brothers left to check on our mate, I decided to have a talk with her aunt. “You guys scared my niece. I didn't bring her here to be killed with fright,” Fiona reprimanded. I didn't say a word because she was right. We should not have scared her but we were just making sure she was safe. “Forget it. When are you planning to tell her about yourselves?” She asked. “It's not the right time yet. As much as we want to reveal ourselves to her, I think it's better to unseal her wolf first,” I replied. Since Macey was past eighteen years old, it meant that she had her wolf. Only that her parents used a spell to suppress her wolf and seal her powers. My brothers and I don't care about her remaining human but wouldn't it be better for her to learn about the truth through herself? “You know that's going to be hard. We have to find a witch who knows about undoing spells,” Fiona reasoned. She was right though. It wasn't going to be easy but we were determined to make it happen. “I'm getting out of here!” Before I could answer Fiona, my younger brother, Abriel, stormed out of the house. “What happened?” Fiona shouted at Abriel who was a few feet away. “Ask your niece!” I looked at her and then at the disappearing figure not knowing what to make of it. I nodded at her and walked towards the bedroom where Jariel was. Abriel usually lost his temper very fast and I wouldn't like it if he said something to Macey to anger her.
