Chapter 8
Todd
Holding onto the edges of the blanket, Todd tried to pull his uncle away from the wall of thorns. He made very little progress. He was insubstantial and Manuel was very heavy. He'd only managed to move him a few feet when Manuel finally woke.
Confused upon waking, his uncle cried out and back handed him, knocking Todd down. Then he dashed away from the hedge.
Despite being knocked to the ground, Todd was deeply relieved. “You’re up,” he said. “Finally.”
“The monster?” said Manuel. “Where did it go?”
“The goblin? I don’t know. It disappeared up there somewhere,” he said, indicating the impenetrable wall of thorns.
Manuel looked up, all the while stepping backwards.
Todd followed. “Calm down. We need to save Maude Clare. That gorilla may have gone after her.”
