Ky came slowly, his vision clearing on a woman leaning over him who looked like Mara, only better older, more poised, with her wild curls tamed into a smooth fall of dark hair that brushed her shoulders. Her brown eyes were fixed on him, wide and bright, pupils flared in a way that made his pulse kick hard. The soft light from the pendant lamp over the table turned the edges of her hair into a warm glow. “Hey there,” she said quietly. “I’m Mara Kincaid.” For a second he thought the blow to his skull had scrambled him completely.
