Chapter 6 The Aftermath
The sun had set on the horizon, but the night was as bright as day. We sat in silence as we rode the jeep and realised that the fire had spread through the entire forests and towns nearby. Town after town, and city after city past Olean was either left in ruins or was about to be swallowed by fire. Never had I witnessed such a catastrophic scene before,
“It feels like the world is ending..” Bennett broke the silence.
There was a long pause before Trevor responded, “I wonder if the people made it out safely.”
That was, indeed, what we’ve all been thinking. Such a huge forest fire would engulf everything, and there was nothing we could do to stop it. Our only question was, ‘where is the government?’
