She had done a lot of preparation for Spencer’s arrival in her life, but the reality was far different than any scenario she imagined. The doctors had warned her, of course. “You can’t trust his memory yet,” they’d said. “He’s going to seem like he’s fine, and then he might forget something as simple as whether or not he’s put on his shoes.” And she’d believed them.
