War is coming

Odessa opened her mouth, unable to utter a word, her eyes widened in disbelief. She glared at him for a while. “You are the one who slept with another, and you still reject me!!” Ryker hurriedly walked to her and raised his voice, “I am the man here!!!! The Alpha's Son, I can be with whom I please. I'm only sorry it had to be your best friend,” he then whispered, “, and please spare me the pretense.” She remained silent, her heart began beating faster, she blinked rapidly, unable to process the information. “It is because of the love I have for you that I've decided not to do this in public, knowing that you yearn for another……” “What are you talking about?” She interrupted and leaned closer. At the council meeting, Beckett, Odessa's father, sat on the right side of the Alpha. His loyalty earned him that seat and the promise of becoming the next Beta of the king's pack after their children mate together. “I suggest we burn the bodies,” Beckett voiced out. Kai shook his head, “We still need to know the cause of their deaths.” A guard walked in and whispered to the Alpha. The Alpha nodded in affirmation and he departed. In a short period of time, the healer walked in. He was carrying with him a plate which contained some blood-stained bullets. Alpha Luca King raised an eyebrow, he took a deep breath before he finally muttered, "you brought us bullets. Are you insane?” “They're from the dead bodies.” “I know, am I supposed to eat it?” The healer quickly drops it on a table. He bends down his head, “I do not mean to offend you, I only wanted to elaborate on the dangers of the bullet as it is not an ordinary one.” The council members leaned forward. “Go on” “Whosoever is killing these wolves is using silver bullets laced with wolfbane.” “Wolfbane is as lethal as silver to werewolves. Why combine the two?” one of the council members whispered. The members of the council began to murmur. Alpha Luca King's jaw clenched, he raised his hands and everywhere became silent. “A werewolf cannot make such a weapon without hurting itself in the process, it's humans, they've helped us create wolfbane bullets before, they're definitely doing it again, perhaps for another pack.” “Or for themselves.” They all gazed at Beckett. “It was a mistake letting them know our weakness, but now they know, perhaps they are trying to create a feud between packs and erase us all from existence.” Alpha Luca King's eyes narrowed, and he signaled the healer to leave. The healer took the plate of bullets and exited the council hall. “This war must be avoided. We cannot let the humans create a feud between us and the blackwood pack.” “What do we do about the bodies?” “We burn them.” The council nodded in affirmation, they believed it was the only way to avoid war. At that moment, the Alpha's phone beeped, he looked at his screen and smiled. “You can all leave, except Beckett, Kai and Zane.” The council members stood up and left. The mentioned ones were his most trusted allies, who were also involved in his business activities. There has always been speculation about the council having a smaller council within. Those who weren't part of the smaller council weren't bothered. Luca King's eyes scanned the room as he addressed his smaller council, “My spy tells me that Gideon's ship sails to Liverpool tomorrow night,” Beckett and Kai exchanged weighted glances, their faces revealing their curiosity. “I do not understand,” Becket revealed his confusion. “We'll intercept it at the New York Harbor,” Luca continued as he focused his gaze at Beckett. “We'll take control of the ship and claim its cargo for ourselves and then sail it to France. I already have a buyer waiting.” “Gideon Wilderwolf is the most dangerous and richest Alpha in New York, you cannot steal from him,” Beckett voiced out. Luca's gaze narrowed, his eyes widened as he raised his voice. “And am I to be underestimated?!! I, too, could be the richest Alpha in New York. We all know what he does to get his money.” Kai murmured to Beckett and his voice trembled with concern, “Alpha, I... I urge caution. Gideon Wilderwolf is not to be underestimated. You speak of avoiding war, but this is a declaration of war itself.” “If everything goes as planned, Luca will be thrice rich, and we will all have our cut” Zane smiled. Beckett nodded his head in disagreement and then raised it “Gideon is not going to send mere humans to sail his cargo to Liverpool.” Luca's expression softened, his voice took on a more conciliatory tone. “I understand your concerns, Beckett. But Zane here has made sure our bullets are laced with wolfbane.” Beckett nodded, he felt disappointed. “You planned all this with Zane first, when am I chosen to be your beta and underboss.” Everyone remained silent, they all saw the jealousy in his eyes. Luca's expression remained calm, his voice measured as he replied, “I didn't want to bother you, your daughter's nineteenth birthday is tomorrow. It's going to be a busy day and night for you.” Beckett's unease grew. He knew Gideon Wilderwolf's reputation all too well, he couldn't shake off the feeling of impending doom. His phone beeped, he received a mysterious message: “Meet me at the old oak tree in the pack's territory at midnight. Come alone.”
