Chapter Fifteen
Lights were on in a few places around the lake, Brady could see from where he stood at the shore, the reflection of the moon disappearing as it slipped behind some clouds. He heard the screen door slap closed, then footsteps through the debris of fallen leaves.
It was pitch dark now, and his ears stung from the cold, his breath fogging in front of him. He dragged his gaze over to Cassie, who was walking with Marcus by an old well surrounded by a few barren trees, which had dropped all their leaves.
He felt a hand on his shoulder.
