Were you surprised or not?

If my mother was in an elated mood at dawn today, she was completely a different person when dusk took place. What she believed to be the grave of the Lord was plainly a gravesite of commoners. My mother shuts herself alone and broods in the dark, while my dad starts to cook something that he believes might wash away my mother's dark mood. At times like this I disappear from the picture totally, and the other part of my job starts. I just finished having my dinner and I'll be sneaking into the grave site. I am pretty sure that I will discover something that they have overlooked, I have a hunch that I will uncover clues that might lead us to a bigger truth. It's a good thing that no one is lurking near the excavation site. And I hastily sneak into the area. I then started to investigate what was found there. There were five ancient coffins which were extracted from the ground. I am by no means alien to this experience. I am not scared or I don't find these things morbid. I am interested in finding out what's behind the mystery. I am more interested in the truth. For the sake of knowledge I don't mind investigating ancient remains. I believe that life has a beginning and an end, my work has given me that impression, discovering mankind's rise and fall and understanding their way of life. That's the beauty of my work and I thank the gods that I have the chance to experience it. It's a good thing that four out of the five coffins were left ajar, the lid of it appears to be heavy so I'm thankful that I would have a hard time opening it. I've now realized that it's really dark tonight, I wonder who turned off most of the lights that surround the site, I then fumbled for my trusty flashlight and started probing the remains inside the coffin. I was surprised with what I have seen. There were strange items buried with the remains or on them. Some have iron stakes driven through their torsos, yet others have bricks or stones found in their mouths. All of them have stones placed on their necks.I then realized that these are apotropaic artifacts and symbols. They are believed to ward off evil influences. Magical practice was common in the ancient times. Death, dying and dead people were absolutely feared. I started inspecting what was left of the remains, most parts were gone already but I have found out a startling discovery with that of the remains that doesn't have a brick or stone on his mouth. His teeth are still intact but there's something different in it, I find a protrusion on what was to be his incisors and as I can say it's wickedly sharp. Decipotur. My mom unfortunately overlooked this, she was fixed and has focused only on the bigger target that she didn't notice. To say that my heart is beating wildly and that my mind is racing, that would be totally an understatement. I am excited about what I have come across tonight but I feel like the hair on my neck is raising again, and the air suddenly feels chilly. I zipped my jacket up and checked my watch. Three minutes past midnight, I had to hurry otherwise I couldn't get some sleep tonight, just thinking of sleep, I stifled a yawn. Since I feel content with what I have discovered with the four coffins, I then eyed the last unopened one. The person who occupied the last coffin surely is tall. The sealed coffin is much longer than the previous four. I started inspecting how I am going to open it without damaging it. It's important that I should be careful so as not to harm it. After some time I finally found a way to open it. I have a hunch that this sealed coffin will bring some truth, some answer, another discovery. And I'm smiling like crazy in the dark since I will be the first person to come across it. I can only hear my heartbeats getting louder and louder, and my hands are starting to sweat and shake, a sign of my mixed emotions. Hmmp! The lid is really heavy to lift, I started giving it my full shove when suddenly I lost balance and lost hold of my flashlight. I was shocked with what happened. I looked like a fool, I know I'm kind of a klutz but this was something major. I immediately went after my flashlight which fell down and rolled away from me. "My gods, you're really graceful Ella!" I muttered to myself. I immediately trudged back to the coffins and came near the last one I opened and I readied myself to something amazing that I'll see, then I peered inside. I saw nothing. Appalled, I pick up my things when suddenly I hear a deep, rasping sound, I can't help it I shivered. Searching for the source of the sound, I looked up seeing a big black raven staring back at me, as if warning me that I have disturbed his nest.
