Chapter 2: Growing Up and Changes

1049 Words
Years passed, and both Rhey and Shayne grew older. They were no longer the little kids who used to fight in the playground. Time had changed everything. Rhey noticed something different—Shayne had changed so much. She was no longer the small girl he used to tease all the time. She had become a beautiful, smart, and kind young woman. Rhey couldn’t believe his eyes. He used to find joy in annoying her, but now, he couldn’t stop looking at her. She was different now. She was more mature, more confident, and more graceful. The way she smiled, the way she talked, and the way she treated others—everything about her had changed in a way that made Rhey admire her. He started to realize something. The little girl he used to tease had grown into someone he could not ignore anymore. One day, Rhey found himself thinking about Shayne more than usual. He wondered how she was doing, what she was up to, and if she still remembered all the times he had annoyed her. He had never really talked to her properly before, but now, he wanted to. He wanted to know her better, not as a childhood enemy, but as a person. After thinking for a long time, Rhey finally decided to send Shayne a message online. He felt a little nervous, but he took a deep breath and typed the message anyway. Rhey: “Hi, Shayne! How are you?” He hesitated for a moment before pressing send. He didn’t know if she would reply or if she would just ignore him. After all, they were never really friends. He had always been mean to her when they were kids. Shayne was surprised when she saw Rhey’s message. She had not expected him to suddenly chat with her. She had not spoken to him properly in a long time, and she wondered why he was messaging her now. But since Shayne was a friendly person, she decided to reply. She didn’t want to be rude. Shayne: “Hello! I’m good. How about you?” Rhey felt relieved when he saw her reply. He smiled to himself and quickly responded. Rhey: “I’m good too. It’s been a long time, right?” Shayne: “Yes! I didn’t expect you to message me.” Rhey: “Haha, yeah. I just wanted to check on you.” Their conversation started slow, but it didn’t stop there. The next day, Rhey messaged Shayne again. And the day after that, he did it again. Over time, they kept chatting every day. Their messages became longer and longer, and their conversations became more meaningful. They talked about school, their friends, their families, and even small random things. Sometimes they would joke around, and sometimes they would talk about serious things. Rhey felt happy talking to Shayne. He didn’t expect that he would enjoy their conversations so much. He looked forward to chatting with her every day. It became part of his routine. But while Rhey was starting to develop deeper feelings for Shayne, she didn’t feel anything special—at least, not yet. For Shayne, their chats were just friendly conversations. She enjoyed talking to Rhey, but she never thought of him as someone she could like. Rhey, on the other hand, was hoping that one day, Shayne would see him differently. He wanted her to know that he had changed. He was no longer the boy who used to tease her just to make her mad. He wanted to prove to her that he had grown, that he was now someone who truly cared about her. And so, Rhey continued to chat with Shayne, waiting for the day when she might start to feel something for him too. More Conversations, More Memories Days turned into weeks, and weeks turned into months. Their daily conversations became normal. They would talk about their dreams, their problems, and even their favorite things. Rhey: “If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go?” Shayne: “Hmm… I think I’d love to go to Japan! I love the culture, the cherry blossoms, and the food.” Rhey: “Oh, I see. That sounds fun! Maybe one day, you can visit.” Shayne: “I hope so! What about you? Where do you want to go?” Rhey: “Honestly? Anywhere, as long as I have good company.” Shayne laughed at Rhey’s answer, thinking he was just joking. But deep inside, Rhey really meant it. He didn’t care where he went as long as he was with someone he cared about. As time passed, Rhey and Shayne became more comfortable with each other. Rhey started opening up about his life. He shared his struggles, his fears, and even his family problems. One night, he sent Shayne a long message. Rhey: “Shayne, I just want to say thank you for always replying to my messages. I really appreciate it. Sometimes, life feels really hard, and I feel like I have no one to talk to. But with you, it’s different. I feel like I can share anything with you.” Shayne smiled as she read Rhey’s message. She didn’t expect him to be so open. Shayne: “Don’t worry, Rhey. I’m always here if you need someone to talk to.” That night, Rhey realized something. He didn’t just like Shayne—he was starting to fall for her. A Change in Shayne’s Heart At first, Shayne didn’t think much about Rhey’s messages. She was just being friendly. But as the days went by, she started to notice something. Rhey was different from the other boys who tried to get close to her. Many guys had a crush on Shayne, but Rhey was the only one who never gave up. He always made an effort to talk to her, to check on her, and to make her feel special. Slowly, without realizing it, Shayne started looking forward to Rhey’s messages. She started missing him when he didn’t chat for a day. She started thinking about him more often. One day, while lying in bed, she smiled to herself. “Could it be?” she whispered. That was the moment she realized—she was falling for Rhey too.
