Andy pushed open the door to change the dressing, hesitating before speaking: "Ash, Alpha Abe is downstairs..."
Before he could finish, the ward door burst open.
Alpha Abe stormed in, eyes bloodshot. "Luna Ash, why did you do this? Do you know what they're saying out there?"
He gritted his teeth. "They say I killed my own flesh and blood for my lover!"
I looked up at him, my voice eerily calm: "Isn't it the truth?"
"You..."
He clenched his fists. "It was an accident!"
"An accident?"
My voice began to tremble.
"Yes. My child 'accidentally' died, I 'accidentally' lost my fertility, and Alice 'accidentally' became pregnant."
"What a perfect accident."
Alpha Abe's expression shifted repeatedly. "What exactly do you want?"
I met his gaze directly: "I want you both ruined."
"You're mad!" He lunged forward, seizing my shoulders. "Do you realise this scandal would destroy me?"
I let his fingers dig into my flesh. "So what? My child is already dead."
"You!"
He released his grip and staggered backwards. "How did you become like this?"
I laughed. "Yes, how did I become like this?"
"The old me was laughably naive."
I enunciated each word, "So naive I believed every lie you told, forgave every betrayal you committed."
"But you knew all along about those photographs and bank transfers..."
Suddenly.
A gasp echoed from the doorway.
Alice stood there, her face ashen: "Alpha Abe, is everything she's saying true?"
Alpha Abe turned, his voice instantly softening: "Alice, why are you here? It's cold outside. Go back."
"Don't change the subject!"
Alice screamed hysterically, "Those photographs, those bank transfers—you knew all along?"
Alpha Abe's expression darkened further. "Alice, I can explain..."
"Explain what?" Omega Alice sneered. "Explain how you knew I was involved with so many men, yet still made me carry this child?"
Her hand shielded her abdomen. "You simply don't care about me or the child, do you? That's why you're indifferent to whatever happens between us."
"No, that's not it!"
Alpha Abe reached out to pull her close. "I truly love you!"
"Love me?"
Alice took a step back. "You only love your own pride!"
"You don't care what kind of person I am at all. You only care whether you can use me to hurt her!"
Alpha Abe knelt on the floor: "Alice, please let me explain..."
Alice turned and walked away. Alpha Abe followed her out.
The ward fell silent once more. Leaning against the headboard, I suddenly burst out laughing.
How ironic.
He thought he was orchestrating everything, yet he didn't realise he was just another laughable pawn himself.
Andy asked cautiously, "Ash, are you alright?"
I shook my head.
Picking up my phone, I sent Audrey a message:
"The second wave of materials can be released."
Since they were all so fond of putting on a show, let's make this performance even more spectacular.
Outside the window, the sky began to clear, sunlight streaming through the glass.
I raised my hand to shield my eyes from the glare, suddenly recalling Alpha Abe's final expression.
So this is what betrayal tastes like.
Does it hurt?
This is only the beginning.
The pain you inflicted upon me, I shall repay tenfold.
Until you're on your knees, begging me to put you out of your misery.
The phone rang again—it was Alpha Abe's mother.
I watched the caller ID, a cold smile curling my lips.
