Chapter 3

2316 Words
Dionne is in the packhouse looking at her sister Bria, Eden, and Alaia sweeping and mopping. She is lying across someone’s bed, hoping that Can will change his mind about seeing her tonight. So, she’s trying to be patient and wait for him to contact her. Alaia and Eden can’t stand Dionne because she never does her chores. Bria is always doing her and her sister's work. Dionne treats Bria as if she’s a maid. Two older women walk into the packhouse, look at Dionne, and whisper and laugh. Dionne looks at the two women weirdly because this is the second time this has happened. She wonders what the reason for their behavior is. “Get off my damn bed.” Hedy is standing beside the bed, looking down at Dionne. Dionne turns to her side and looks at her. “I know you're not speaking to me with that tone. You must have forgotten who I am.” Hedy laughs and looks around the room at the other women who have walked in. “Dionne Block is your name, or should I call you delusional?" “b***h, I’m King Can’s girlfriend.” Dionne stood up and put her hands on her hips. Hedy covered her mouth and shook her head. “Ex-girlfriend. I guess you haven’t heard King Can has found his mate, and he brought her back. What is your ass going to do now?” Dionne is quiet for a few seconds. “What? No, you’re lying? She’s lying, right?” She’s looking around the room at everyone laughing at her. “Nope, I’m not lying. Now straighten my bed up and get the hell out of my space. Your bullying days are over.” Hedy points at her bed. “You ass will be waiting.” Dionne is running out of the packhouse. “She took that better than I thought. Damn, I wish I could be there when she makes a fool out of herself,” Hedy laughs. Bria rolls her eyes at Hedy and walks outside, looking at her sister running up the patio to the main house. But she's stopped by Sarp when she tries to go inside. ***** Can is sitting behind his desk, thinking about his young mate. Efe walks into his brother's office. “Congratulations again.” “Thank you.” Can doesn’t look up from his desk. “Jesiree is a werewolf. How can she have telepathy powers?" He looks at his brother. “Your guess is as good as mine. For the record, I was the one wondering about her virginity.” Efe sits down in the chair across from Can. Can nods. “f**k. What does Dionne's ass want? I told her not to come here tonight.” He hits his desk. “I had planned on telling her ass in the morning about Jesiree.” He’s walking out the door. “Damn it.” “I knew her ass was going to be a problem.” Efe walks behind Can. Can walks on the patio, looking at Dionne pacing and talking to herself. “I had planned to inform you in the morning. But it’s good that you already heard the wonderful news about me finding my mate.” “Wonderful? Can I have been with you for two years? What about me?” She yells. “What about you? Dionne, you were my temporary girlfriend and pack member. You’ll still be a pack member unless you choose to leave. Either way is acceptable to me. If you choose to stay, being a pack member is as far as it goes. I have a mate now. “ He sits down and looks across the yard. Dionne shook her head. “I don’t believe this is happening to me. I have never given you any reason to treat me like this.” “Let’s see where I should start. I’ll only mention one thing. That would take up less time. You were always bullying the other members. Did you forget that I know when a person is lying? Dionne, you lied all the damn time. You will respect the Queen, or I’ll snap your f*****g neck. Now get the hell away from here.” Can still hasn’t looked at her. Upstairs in the window, Jesiree looked at Dionne walking across the yard, crying. “Tempest, it seems Can Scorpio has been busy.” “Yes, he has been. Are we going to kill her?” Tempest is saying in Jesiree’s head. “Not tonight.” Jesiree looks at Can until there is a knock on the door. “Come in,” She’s still looking at Can. Lorie walks into the room. “Luna, dinner is ready." “Thank you. Ms. Lorie, don’t call me Luna. It’s not official yet.” She walks past the woman and down the hall. Lorie looks at her, thinking she doesn’t know where to go. She walks behind her to assist her until she sees Can standing in the hall, smiling and looking at his beautiful young mate dressed in a black open-back, gold-tone curb chain T-strap mini dress. He meets Jesiree and takes her hand. “You look beautiful.” He walked her inside the room. “Thank you. Jesiree looks at a candlelit room and table. “Everything looks delicious. She looks at grilled ribeye steaks with mushrooms, onions, and bell peppers. For the sides, there are sweet balsamic-glazed roasted vegetables, baked potatoes, and raspberry dessert cups with white chocolate cheesecake for dessert. “I thought it would be nice if it were just us tonight. So we could get to know each other.” He pulls the chair out for her. “That would be nice.” Jesiree is looking at a bottle of wine and a nonalcoholic wine. “So, can Scorpio tell me about yourself?” He pours them both glasses of wine. “Why do you call me my full-time?” “That’s your name. I love the way it sounds. Sexy. Yep, sexy. Do you not like me calling you that?” She’s staring at him. Can doesn’t know how to take her. “I like it if you do. You’re different than anyone I have ever met.” He drinks some wine and tells her about himself. It was mostly about him searching for her and his enemies. After he is done, he looks at her, waiting. “Well, there isn’t much to tell. You have already met my brother. Taranis is my half-brother. We have different mothers. He and Giselle are the only family I have that I’m aware of. Jesiree is eating some of the cheesecake. “Me being your mate is still up in the air. If I’m your mate, I’ll be a great mate to you and a great Luna to the pack. I won’t tolerate she-wolves touching what is mine.” She shook her head. “I know that you're not a virgin. After all, you're 500 years old. I would be a fool to think otherwise. One thing I know is my parents didn’t raise any fools. The woman or women you have been involved with need to stay out of my path. Warning, I have a nasty temper." Jesiree points her fork at him. He leans close to the table. “So do I, Ree-Ree, so do I. I won’t tolerate anyone touching you, either. I have waited a long time for you. Yes, I’m known to be ruthless, and yes, I am. But I won’t be that way with you. You are my other half. If anyone tries to harm you, you don’t have to worry because I’ll kill him or her. Tomorrow I’ll introduce you to our pack. That’s not debatable.” Can take her hand and lead her onto the balcony. “All of this is ours to rule and to protect.” Jesiree nods and looks at their kingdom, and thinks. “I won’t make a speech until you and I are marked and mated. Can has many questions about a power that she shouldn't have. He thought about asking her, but decided to wait until she was eighteen and was officially his mate. ***** After breakfast, Can summons all the members to the courtyard the following morning. He has Jesiree’s hand, and she is standing beside him. “Yes, it’s true. I have finally found my mate, Luna, and Queen. Let me introduce you to Jesiree Creed.” He’s looking around the pack and sees Dionne staring at Jesiree. He looks at Jesiree and notices that she’s staring at Dionne. Can try to listen to his young mate's thoughts, but he can’t hear anything. He finds that strange since she’s his mate. “Maybe it’s because we haven’t mated yet,” he thinks. Then he turned his attention to Dionne’s thoughts and was unhappy with them. He links to Burak, Sarp, and Efe, saying he doesn’t want Ree-Ree to go anywhere alone. Keep their eyes on Dionne. All three men look at Dionne, storming off, flapping her arms, and talking to herself. Bria is running behind her. “Wait up." “What do you want? I don’t have time for you right now. Leave me alone.” Dionne shouts. Bria stopped running and shook her head. “She knew this day was coming. Hell, we all did.” ****** Jesiree looks around at the yard, the members, and Can. “I want to meet and talk with them." He takes her hand and starts walking. She pats his arm. “I meant just me. If you’re around, how would I know the truth if you’re a good King?” Can narrows his eyes. “Oh, I see my young mate wants to find out more about me.” He nods. "Fair enough, but Miray, Zehra, and Isla will accompany you.” Can place one finger on her chin and lift her head. “This is also not debatable.” She nods. “Can Scorpio, you sure do have a knack for that not-debatable saying. But okay.” “I know I’m being very protective of you. Ree-Ree, I have spent centuries searching for you. I don’t want to lose you, nor do I want any harm to come to you.” He’s looking into their eyes. “Well, Can Scorpio, you’re not going to lose me. I can take care of myself. But thank you for protecting me. “She rubs his arm. Everyone is listening to the soft tone he uses when he’s speaking with her. Can didn’t exactly mistreat Dionna, but he never spoke to her in a soft, caring tone. Nor did they ever have dinner alone with her. Can never shows Dionne affection in front of anyone. The only time he and Dionne were alone was in his bedroom. “I’ll be in my office if you need me.” He kisses her forehead and walks through the door. Jesiree is walking off the patio. “Can Scorpio. I’ll always need you." Can grin but doesn’t stop walking. While Jesiree is talking to some women, Isla looks at Dionne, walking their way, and mumbles, “Oh s**t, here comes trouble.” Zehra and Miray look to see what Isla is talking about. Dionne's eyes are glued to Jesiree. “Yep,” the two women mumble, then look at Jesiree. Jesiree is talking to Leslie, but she hears the three women. She turns around, looks at Dionne, and thinks, “I was beginning to wonder if she would approach me.” Miray, Isla, and Zehra stand between Jesiree and Dionne. Dionne points at Jesiree, “Hey, you. Yeah, you. I want to talk to you.” “Sure.” Jesiree motions for the three women to move. She walks in front of Dionne. “I’m listening.” Sarp sees what is happening and contacts Can to inform him that Dionne is f*****g with the Queen. Burak and Efe are beside him, and he mumbles, "Shit." Now all the members are looking at the women. “I said I’m listening." Jesiree is still looking at Dionne. Dionne smirks and looks her up and down. “Let me introduce myself. Dionne Block, and I'm Can’s girlfriend. Damn, your ass is young.” She frowns and turns her nose up. “I see where this is headed. I already knew about you. Let’s get one thing straight: you’re his ex-girlfriend. My mate made that plain and clear last night on the patio.” Jesiree walks closer to her and looks into her eyes. “Don’t let my age fool your ass into believing I won’t whip your ass. I’m only giving you one warning. Stay away from my mate. Now I want you to get the hell out of my face, or we can get it on right now.” Can is on the patio. "Damn it, Dionne." He's walking off the patio, but stops when Dionne walks away from Ree-Ree. "I don’t know what my beautiful mate said, but it worked.” He is about to walk back inside the house when he sees a soccer ball flying at Ree-Ree. Jessie turns to see the ball coming at her face. She raises her right hand, and the ball stops in mid-air for a hot second, then flies back in the direction it came from. Dionne sees the ball coming back at her and starts running in the opposite direction. "What the hell?” Can mumbles, looking at green flames taking over the soccer ball, and hits Dionne in her back. He hears screams coming from her. She’s on the ground, screaming and rolling, trying to put her burning back out. Everyone is looking at Jesiree with their mouth open. Can smirk and rub his chin. 'Well, now it seems my mate is keeping a secret from me."
