Chapter4

Burak, Sarp, and Efe are still looking at Jesiree as everyone else does, except for Bria. She’s throwing a blanket over Dionne's back, trying to put the fire out. But the flames aren't going out. Jesiree looks at her fingernails. Isla, Zehra, and Miray walk beside her but are looking at Dionne. “Is she going to die? Damn, I hope she is,” Miray chuckles. Zehra looks at Jesriee. “I don’t know what you are. But why green?” “Envy and the green-eyed monster. No, she isn’t going to die. At least not today.”Jesiree shook her head and walked over to Dionne. “I like her,“ Isla laughs and walks behind Jesiree. Can tilt his head, looking at her. "What are you?" Jesiree is standing over a screaming Dionne and Bria. “You’re wasting your time. I warned you, but no, you have installed in your head that my mate is yours. I’ll let you live this time. I can’t say how I’ll feel the next time." She raises her hand over Dionne, and the flames go back into her hand. "Green suits you.” Jesiree turns to walk away, but sees Can waving for her to come there. Can sits down and looks at his mate walking his way. He glances at Dionne being helped by Bria to the pack hospital. He isn't surprised that no one else is helping her. Then his attention goes back to Jesiree walking up the steps. He points to the chair beside him. Jesiree sits down and crosses her legs. "I thought you were going to be in your office." "Oh, I see. If I were in my office, I would have missed the fire show." He takes her hand and rubs it. She smiles and looks at some children running around the yard playing tag. Can lean closer to her and sniff. "I don’t get it. All I smell is cherry and cyprus. You're a werewolf.” Jesiree frowns and looks at him. "Because that’s what I am." She looks at him and smiles, “Aww, I smell like cherry and cyprus.” “Yes, that’s what you smell like to me. It's very intoxicating. “ Can sniffs her again and kisses the back of her hand. “You're good. You almost had me distracted. Now back to the subject.” “Not good enough,” she’s thinking. "Ree-Ree, I know that you have powers. I don’t understand how or why. I’m not going to command you to tell me.“ He frowns a little when she chuckles. “You can trust our pack and me." “Okay,” Jesiree nods. Can hopes his mate will open up to him and tell him what she is. But all he got was Jesiree nodding and looking across the yard. “Even if I can’t sense it, I’m sure you’re a Hybrid. But I know that you haven’t lied to me about anything. That’s all I’ll say about it right now. I can’t hear your thoughts. All I’m asking is for you to let me in, even if it’s a little bit." Jesiree is looking at everyone scattering. Some are bumping into each other and looking at her. Can looks at her one more time as he reaches for the doorknob and hears in his head, "I'll let you in a little. I said a little.” He turned to look at Jesiree. She winks and points at him. “You said a little. Can Scorpio." “That I did, that I did. Thank you,” He opens the door. “My mate is five handfuls." “You're welcome. Sexy, can Scorpio.” She’s thinking. He hears her thoughts and chuckles. “At least I know that she's attractive to me.” ***** “Get the hell out of my sight.” A blue-eyed redhead woman grabs a young maid and throws her out of the room. The woman gets up and bumps into a handsome blonde-haired man with green eyes. The man is looking at the woman, trying to get up again. “I take it that our Luna is in a bad mood again.” “Yes, Sir, the maid lowers her head until her Alpha walks away. She glances at the room as he closes the double doors. “Both of them are crazy as hell," she mumbles and gets up. Inside the room, the woman is throwing a cup of coffee to the floor. “It’s so damn hard to find good help.” “Morticia darling, what have you in such an ill mood this morning? You almost gave the young lady a heart attack.” He kisses her hand, then her neck. “I told her ass to bring me a cup of coffee with sugar and cream. Instead, she brings me coffee and cream. No damn sugar.” She points to the coffee spill. Balthazar wraps his arms around her waist. “Dear, you don’t like sugar. As a matter of fact, you detest sugar. The last time she brought you sugar, as you asked, you locked her in the dungeon for a week. Now tell me what’s wrong.” She pouts, “This place is so boring. When was the last time we had a good war? Hell, good or bad war, I’ll take either one.” Morticia smirks, then turns around to look at him with pleading eyes. He shook his head. “My love, you’re asking a lot from me. All the packs around here are allies and our friends. So, war is out of the question here.” “You don’t love me anymore.” Morticia folded her arms and stomped her feet. “What happened to the man who said he’ll give me the world if I ask?" Balthazar sat down. “ I love you and would give you the world if I could. But this is impossible. No packs here will fight each other.” Morticia wraps her arms around his neck. “They would if we intervened.” “That’s out of the question.” He looks at his watch. “s**t, if I don’t leave now, I’ll be late for my appointment with Can." Balthazar kisses her forehead. "Stay out of trouble. If you come up with something else for us to do, tell me when I return." She jumps up and down with her fist balled up. All I want to do is to let loose and have a little fun.” Morticia walks over to the window, looking at her mate and some warriors getting in the car. “If you won’t join me, I’ll have to start a war without you. Who will be my first victim?" She chuckles and claps. "This is going to be fun." ***** Can look up from his desk and sees Efe, Sarp, and Burak staring at him. He leans back in his chair and looks at the door. “What happened to knocking on doors and waiting to be told to come in?" “Knocking on doors is the least of our concerns.” Efe walks to the side of the desk. “Man, the doctor looked at that thing’s back and said he doesn't believe it will heal. I bet Dionne won't throw anything at the Queen or anyone else again.” Sarp laughs and sits down. “Tell us about your mate. What in the hell is she?” Burak sits in the chair in front of the desk, still looking at him. “Might not heal. That’s good. That means I might let Dionne suffer in pain instead of killing her for the foul s**t she did. As for my mate. I have no clue what she is. But I know Ree-Ree has three powers so far. Damn, that means the flame must have been laced with silver or wolfsbane. Remarkable,” He leans back in his chair and smirks. “Three?" Burak looks at him, confused. Can is looking at his phone, which beeps. “Yes, it seems my beautiful young mate can block everyone. I do mean everyone, including me. Now let's change the subject. Balthazar is here, and I don’t want him to know of Ree-Ree's gifts.” All three are looking at him, confused because of the statement about Balthazar. He and the man have been friends for centuries and have never kept secrets. Balthazar walks into the room. Can narrows his eyes, looking at him before he greets the man. Can dives right into the meeting. He wants to have lunch with his mate. The meeting is about rogues that came through Balthazar's territory but didn’t bother anything. Balthazar and Can dislike rogues in the same way. After coming up with a plan to deal with the rogues, Can notices something different about his friend, but doesn’t pick up any dishonesty from him. He’s listening to Balthazar talk about everything but Morticia. That is unusual since the man has always found a way to bring his mate’s name into every conversation. Balthazar sips his water, wondering who Can is communicating with through his link. Then he thinks it is probably Dionne. He has never liked the woman too much, even if she is his mate's sister. Morticia was a member of Can’s pack. Balthazar's true mate died a couple of years ago. One day, he came to Can’s pack and met Morticia. He marked and completed the mating process the same day with her. Morticia wanted her sisters to join their pack, but Balthazar refused to let Dionne anywhere close to his pack. But Bria wouldn’t leave her sister there alone. If she left, then Dionne wouldn’t have any friends or anyone to talk to. The women there avoid her like the plague. A soft knock comes at the door. "I have a surprise for you." Can walks over to the door and opens it. "I found my mate. He takes Jesiree's hand, and she steps into his office. "Let me introduce you to my gorgeous mate,e Jesiree Creed." Can winks at her. She blushes and shakes her head. "Congratulations! Damn, it's about time." Balthazar stands up, and he man-hugs Can. He steps back, looking at Jesiree's neck, and doesn't see it marked. "We have a special night planned for our marking," Jesiree said, laying her head on Can's arm. "I was wondering about that. Well, I'd better get back to my mate before she gets into trouble. Jesiree was nice to meet you, and again, congratulations. We have to go out one night to celebrate." Balthazar is walking to the door. “My friend seems to be on edge about something.” Can leads her over to the sofa and sits down. Jesiree picked up a magazine that was on the table. “It seems Morticia is pressing him about something. He wasn’t thinking about anything in particular. So I can’t tell you what it is.” “That woman is just like her sister. “He’s tapping the arm of the sofa. “Who is her sister?” She asks while reading an article in the magazine. Can looks at her. “Dionne. Didn’t you hear me thinking about the three sisters?” “Nope, I’m not going to invade your mind. But I have a habit of listening when I first meet someone. Your friend needs to stand his ground if she's anything like Dionne.” Jesiree put the magazine back on the table. "You have my permission to invade my mind all the time. I have no secrets from you. Now let's have lunch. I thought we'd go to the lake for a picnic." Can pick her up bridal style. She lay her head against his chest. "You're spoiling me, Can Scorpio." He kissed her forehead. "You're mine to spoil." ****** Dionne is still at the pack's hospital, yelling at the staff between the screaming from the pain. Now, none of the staff will go near her. Bria was there helping her until Dionne ran her away. Doctor Arnold wants to keep her there for a couple of days until she has healed from the tiny silver U-shaped staples that look like staples. He had taken them out of her back. The doctor is looking at one of the staples through a microscope. “I have never seen anything like this before.” Bebe walks beside him with her ears covered up. “Can we put her out of her misery?” She looks through the microscope and grins, then cuts it off. Doctor Arnold is looking at her. “Have you seen what our Queen did before?” “No. What are you going to do about her?” She points to Dionne, yelling for someone to help her drink some water. “A good dose of tranquilizer.” He’s holding up a syringe and walking toward Dionne. BeBe walked out of the room and made a call. But she isn’t on the phone long.
