Chapter 11: The Unexpected Game

469 Words
Saturday arrived, bringing with it an air of excitement. Cedar Ridge College was buzzing with anticipation, the vast green field set for a sports competition sponsored by Xander's family. It was a public spectacle, and everyone was invited. Xander, known for his athletic prowess, was the star attraction. Girls fluttered around him, each hoping to catch his eye, while the guys prepared themselves to compete against him. Xander, reveling in the attention, put on a show. Each victory was punctuated by him peeling off his top, to the screaming delight of his female admirers. The thrill of competition, the roar of the crowd, the jealous glances of his peers - everything fed Xander's ego. On the periphery, avoiding the athletic confrontations, stood Jasper. He was content observing, cheering on his friends, and soaking in the energy of the day. He had no desire to participate. However, his peaceful day took a turn when Xander's crew spotted him. With wide grins, they surrounded Jasper, nudging him towards the playing field. Jasper, caught off guard, tried to refuse, but the guys were relentless. With the crowd's encouragement and their persistent persuasion, Jasper found himself reluctantly stepping onto the field. The game began, and as expected, Xander dominated. Jasper, untrained and out of his depth, struggled to keep up. Yet, there were brief moments when Jasper seemed on the verge of winning, his determination and spirit surprising the spectators. Just as it looked like Jasper might finally have a moment of glory, Xander swept in, snatching away the win. The crowd erupted in cheers for Xander, while Jasper was left breathless and embarrassed. In the midst of the chaotic celebration, Xander, claiming it was a mistake, kicked Jasper in the face. Jasper fell back, pain radiating from his face, blood trickling from his nose. A wave of laughter swept across the field, adding to his humiliation. With a shaky hand, Jasper wiped the blood off his face, struggling to hold back tears. He rushed towards the bathroom, away from the prying eyes. Elara, who had been watching the spectacle unfold, felt a surge of anger at Xander's actions. She rushed after Jasper, desperate to provide some solace. Xander, oblivious to Elara's concern for Jasper, continued to bask in his victory. That night, Jasper sat alone, nursing his bruised face and pride. Elara's comforting words rang in his ears, but they did little to soothe his humiliation. On the other side of the campus, Xander was celebrating his win, blissfully ignorant of the rising tension between him, Elara, and Jasper. This incident marked a turning point in their lives. The laughter at Jasper's humiliation, the blatant disrespect from Xander, and the growing concern of Elara, all set in motion a series of events that would change the dynamics at Cedar Ridge College forever.
