Chapter 6

When I opened my eyes, I groaned softly and shut them again. There was a bright light this morning. When I opened them again, the room was unfamiliar. Then I realized there were arms wrapped around me from behind. I glanced over my shoulder to see Seth. He was sleeping soundly. It was the most peaceful I had ever seen his face. Was sleep the most peace a rage demon got? I tried to shift away from him and his eyes snapped open. They glowed for a moment and then he smirked softly. "Good morning." He said with a soft grin. "Where am I?" I asked as he let me sit up. "My room." He said and ran a hand through his hair. "Your pheromones had spread through the hall. I didn't feel comfortable leaving you there even with your heat settled." "I'm not a child," I said as I pushed the blanket off. He wasn't wearing a shirt, and I was in a new satin teddy and panties. "No, but you were passed out." I scrunched up my nose. "What do you care?" I said in annoyance and he furrowed his brow. I climbed out of the bed. "You regret it, right?" His eyes widened, and he clicked his teeth in annoyance. "That is NOT what I meant." He stood from the bed and I saw he was only wearing his boxers. "I meant that my brothers would lose their s**t for what I did after we had already agreed. I don't like being yelled at." He clenched his jaw harshly for a moment. "Wait here. I'll get someone to bring you something to wear." I stood stunned for a moment as he left the room. Why was I so upset over his words? It's not like I actually liked him, right? So it shouldn't matter if he didn't want to sleep with me. Yet hearing him tell me I was wrong made me a little happy. When he returned, Levi and Belinos were following him, and he looked pissed. Levi glared at him. "We made a deal Seth." Levi looked at me. "Did you pick him?" I bit the inside of my cheek and shook my head. There was no point lying. Levi growled harshly at Seth. "What choice did I have? Her heat flared up. Was that really the time to get either of you? Was I supposed to leave our mate here while I went to fetch you both out there?" He gestured to the window. Had they left the place last night? "Did you smell her pheromones when you got back?" Both Levi and Belinos scowled. "So you calmed her heat without s*x?" Bel asked and Seth frowned deeply. Belinos crossed his arms over his chest. "Don't give me that look. Both of you could hardly resist her either. Levi nearly had his way with her that first night and her heat had already died down." Levi flinched and I frowned at him. "Well, then, it's only fair that you are out of the running. One of us is next." I flinched at Levi's words. "I'm not some toy to be passed around," I said and all three of them cringed. "None of you see me as anything more though, do you?" I tried to leave, but Seth grabbed my arm to stop me. "That's not true. If I saw you as some conquest, I wouldn't have brought you to my room. No one is allowed in here. I barely allow my brothers in here." He met my eyes and those red orbs seemed to drill into my soul. It was like the first time he was really seeing me. I felt a soft spark and he smiled. It was the first time I had seen him genuinely smile. "Athena. You felt that right?" I nodded and then he glared at his brothers. "We've been going at this all wrong. She doesn't feel our bond because she doesn't feel for us." "Did she feel your bond just now?" Belinos asked as he stepped forward and Seth nodded. "Half-demons don't make any sense," Levi grumbled and then sighed. "Fine. So what do you suggest?" Both Seth and Levi looked at Bel. "We have to win her over then." He said and then reached out to take my hand. "Mate, would you allow us to try and show you how we feel for you?" "Are you asking to date me?" Demons didn't date. They had s*x. The brothers looked at each other, and then they all nodded. "None of you have any idea what that means." "So teach us," Seth said as he finally let go of my arm. "Teach us more about you as well. We don't know much about half-demons or humans." That was obvious. "Are you serious?" "Do you think we would lie to you?" Levi asked and I frowned. No. They didn't seem the type. Demons were usually honest from what I had seen anyway. My mother never held back on what she wanted to say. "You might not like us, but don't insult us." I frowned at him. Insult them? How? "You don't know much about demons either," Bel said, and I nodded. "Demons would never lie to their mate. Any demon willing to lie in general is frowned upon, but lying to a mate is..." He trailed off as he seemed to search for the words. "Unforgivable," Seth said and Bel nodded. "It would be enough reason to break the bond." "Over a lie?" I asked, confused, and they all nodded. "I never knew demons took their words so seriously." "Words have power for demons," Levi said and smirked slightly. "As an envy demon, I feed off the emotions of others to fuel my powers. Seth can rely on his own rage and doesn't need others, and Bel is an elemental demon. For demons like me, though, we learn to get what we need. Most demons are that way. It gives weight to words and actions that are hard to understand if you don't feel them. That's why demons refuse to lie to their mate. Our mate provides us with what we need. It would be stupid to taint that or risk losing it." "I never thought about it like that before." It made sense though. A demon's mate was precious to them. More so than I had realized. "You aren't some trophy," Seth said as he reached out to cup my cheek. "You are more important to us than you can understand." "So then why do you keep fighting over my body?" They all cringed and Belinos sighed softly. "Because it's in our nature," Bel explained with a soft frown. "As a succubus being mated triggers your heat. As our mate, we feel that in a way." I frowned at him. What did that mean? "Meaning we won't feel whole until we mate with you fully," Seth said, and Levi glared at him. "You have no right to say that. You have already got the chance to be with her. Meanwhile, Bel and I are left feeling like this." "Like what?" "It's not a feeling that can be described," Seth said with a frown. "It's like being hungry and thirsty at the same time. Like feeling too hot and too cold. It's an uncomfortable aching." "And you don't feel like that now?" He shook his head and I looked at Levi and Belinos. They frowned and Levi sighed. "Is that why my heat triggered again so soon?" "Most likely," Levi said. "Your body also wants to fully mate with us. Even if you can't feel the same thing we do." I felt a little bad. I didn't want to cause them pain and discomfort. "So then why..." Why didn't they have s*x with me that first night? "You weren't level-headed enough for that. Your heat was clouding your mind so much," Belinos answered, and I frowned. They were trying to be considerate? Levi growled and ruffled his hair in frustration. "Then Seth had to go break the rules." "Don't blame me that you both decided to run away rather than face our mate's displeasure." Belinos looked ashamed, but Levi glared harshly at Seth. "Enough," I said, and they all looked at me. "Fighting about it doesn't change what happened. I think I am owed a proper explanation of what mating means for demons like you." The brothers looked between each other and then nodded. Seth held out his hand palm up and the other two touched his hand softly. "You too, mate. Truce." Seth said with a tilt of his head. I hesitated for a moment and reached out to touch his palm softly. "Alright. Bel, get her clothes. Levi, get breakfast. I'm going to get dressed and see if I can find one of our books in the library. You can shower in there, Athena." He pointed at one of the two doors in the room. Did all the rooms have their own private bathroom?
