CHAPTER THIRTEEN

UNFORTUNATELY, EMILY'S NOSE wasn't broken. It was however, swollen and bruised which was enough to satisfy the beautiful sociopathic Levi. She stayed out our spot for the rest of the day and even took over Vera's chair. She made Chase stay with her the whole time, claiming that talking to him calmed her down like her bruised nose was a f*****g life or death situation. I tried to ignore it, but I couldn't help the sick feeling the settled in my stomach every time I would glance over at them and see them chatting so casually. When the sun started to set, we all decided to head back. The Range Rover headed back except this time, Noah and Michael switched places considering Michael was already passed out asleep on the sand by the time we decided to leave. David had to carry him all the way back to the car and it was really cute. David was a relly good father and Michael was so damn lucky. Levi also managed to squeeze in, saying he couldn't spend another second with Emily which was fair. "Again, I'm so sorry Emily." I say as we make our way up the sandy wodden stairs to the parking lot. Emily glances over her shoulder and gives me a small smile. "Seriously, Hay. It's fine." She says while holding the white tissue over her nose in place, "You don't need to keep apologising." "My mother stocks up on frozen peas so hopefully that will take down the swelling." I scoff as I struggle to carry all of Emily's things. I mean, it was the least I could do even though I really f*****g didn't want to do it. "Yeah, remember the time she brought out like fifty bags when you broke your hand." Noah tilts his head. back and laughs at the memory, "I can still vividly picture you punching that football dude in the face. I mean, the devil works fast but Hayden Jones f*****g works faster." I wink at him, "You know it." We were laughing as we all make our way up the steps and onto the cooling tarmac of parking lot. We make our way over to my mother's car when I notice a group of guys walking towards us. "No way. Hayden Jones?" One of them asks as I instantly recognise them, Noah does to. "Holy f**k! Am I magic? Do I have super powers. I just manifested the f**k out of you." Noah exclaims as he points to the group of guys from my high school. They all looked the exact same, sans football jacket, but still the same jackass energy their ooze from their pores. Except, unlike the group of three that there were last time, there were now seven. "Brave of you to show your face around these parts again." Daniel Hawkins smirks as he walks over to us, the rest of his asshole squad lowly following behind. I pout as we come to a stop in the middle of the near empty parking lot, "Aww, scared I'm going to sit you on your ass again?" "You're just lucky I was drunk that night." Daniel smirks again as he stops a few feet away. "Hey, didn't you get kidn*pped?" One of his friends points at me and I freeze up slightly. I feel a hand. against the small of my back and realise it's Chase's, "And the f*****g i***t let you go." "He didn't f*****g let me "I take a deep breath in as I pause, "Look, I've had a long day and trying to deal with your level of stupidity is tiring, so if you'll excuse us." As I go to walk past them Daniel steps in my way and smirks down at me, "You still look really f*****g good, Hayden." "I suggest you step the f**k back." Chase states as he comes to a stance next to me. Daniel glances up at him and I swear I could see a sliver of fear cross his stupid face. He chuckles to hide the fact that he was actually scared. He glances back at his buddies and they start laughing to, "Or what, you f*****g psycho?" "We all know how last time turned out. But you should know that my right hook hurts a little more than hers." Chase explains as I beam a large cheesy grin up at Daniel who was now starting to look a little uncomfortable, "Would you like some proof?" Daniels' cocky smile falters, "We were only joking. dude." "And it was just so f*****g funny, wasn't it?" Chase chuckles sarcastically as he glances down at me, "Let's go, okay?" I nod as I walk between Chase and Daniel and start heading towards Noah who was staring at us with a bewildered but slightly excited expression. "Oh god, now what the f**k do you want?" I hear Daniel's voice behind as Noah, Chase and I stop and turn around. We see Emily standing right in front of Daniel, glaring up at him but I could see she was slightly shaking. "And you are...?" "I tutored you for three years." Emily says but it was barely audible, "My name is Emily." "What?" Daniel chuckles with the rest of his buddies. He then wraps his hand around her waist, "Hey, if you're looking for a fun time then all you have to do it ask, Emma. I'll f**k you; broken nose and all." "Uh-I-" Emily starts to panic and frantically glances at us. I instantly drop all the stuff I was holding and rush over to her. "Get your f*****g hands off her." I say as I push between them. I grab onto Emily and pull her away from Daniel as she stumbles over her flip flops. "I just cannot get a f*****g bre-"His sentence is cut off by Chase's fist colliding with his face. Daniel hits the ground instantly from the strong force as Chase stands above him. There was a slight pause as everyone looked from Chase to Daniel. Then, Daniel sneers, "You're going to f*****g regret that." I was glad the parking lot was near empty because the fight that ensued after was quite messy. Emily and I backed up as Chase and Noah attempted to fight off the seven guys. They were severely outnumbered but still managed to hold their own. "Emily, run to the car." I tell her as she looks at me with wide eyes, "Now." She nods and starts sprinting to the silver car just as I unlock it from where I was standing. Noah manages to push a large dude off him and gets up from the concrete. "Everett!" I shout as I catch his eyes through the chaos and throw him the keys. He catches them with ease as the three of us take off towards the car after Emily. We leave everything in the parking lot and all cannonball into the vehicle. "Holy s**t!" Noah pants from where he sat next to me and I notice his cheekbone was a little bruised, "That was so much fun." Chase was already speeding out of the parking lot by now and having forgotten to put seatbelts on, Noah and i were struggling to stay upright in the backseat. I glance over my shoulder to see a black SUV speeding after us. I start shouting, "f**k, go go go!" "Where the f**k am I going!?" Chase shouts as I meet his eyes in the rearview mirror. I shrug, "Anywhere but the house!" I feel the car propel forward as Chase presses his foot harder against the accelerator. The large SUV was gaining on us, it's engine size probably three times the size of the one under the hood of my mother's VW Golf. It ends up right beside us withe all the guys leaning out their window screaming at us and flipping us off. It's like we were in a knock of version of The Fast and the Furious. "Chasey," Noah says as he leans forward and starts massaging Chase's shoulders, "I love you but you drive like my damn grandmother. Please f*****g floor it." Chase does so and sends us flying down the road, narrowly avoiding cars and oncoming traffic at some point. The SUV keeps swerving into our lane, trying to push us off and each time Chase successfully evades it. I end up winding down the window and sticking half of my torso out of it, "Looks like your driving is a s**t as you playing football!" "f**k you!" One guy shouts at me as I throw up both middle fingers. I shout back, "f**k you!" "Jones, get your ass back in the car." Chase shouts at me from the driver's seat as I slowly sit back down onto the leather seat and slowly wind the glass back up to it's original position. "Well that was fun." I say to the quiet car as the shouts of the guys from the other vehicle echo from outside. Chase was smirking at me as he glances over his shoulder but I stare past him to see a sharp bend coming up extremely quick. I point, "s**t!" Chase quickly reacts and slams on the breaks as he turns the steering wheel and I instantly slam against the car door with Noah slamming against me. I could hear the tires screeching as I'm held in place by the some physics s**t as Noah attempts to take his weight off me. When the car finally straightens back up, Noah and I both go flying down aross the seat. I land on his chest as he catches me. When I take my head off his chest, Noah was grinning me. "Naw, this is cute. Best friend cuddle." He smiles as I roll my eyes at him and push off. When I sit up, I glance behind us to see that the SUV hadn't made the turn as well as we did and was now crashed into the guard rails of the road. Noah and I both start cheering at the sight. "Should we go back and see if they're alright?" Emily asks, looking extremely worried as she turns to us. Both Noah and I were having an extremely hard time trying not to laugh at her nose. "f**k no." I shake my head, grinning as I lean through the gap of the seats and press my lips to Chase's cheek, "Not to boost your ego, but that was f*****g amazing, Everett." "Yeah!" Emily awkwardly joins on at the end. I settle back in my seat, still buzzing from the excitement. But soon enough the interior of the car starts flashing red and blue and all of us let out a long groan. Chase slowly pulls over to the side and turns off the car. A few moments later, there's a light tap against Chase's window and he winds it down. Chase nods, "Hello Officer." "Do you have any idea why I've pulled you over, Sir?" The police questions as Chase shakes his head without a word. The Officer bends down further as he glances into the back at Noah and I, "You were speeding 25 miles of the limit." I lean forward with a grin, "Good evening. Officer..." I glance at his name-badge, "Jacobs." "Who are you?" He frowns. "Hayden Jones, nice to meet you." I smile as he nods back at me still slightly confused, "You say we were speeding and yet I cannot see any proof." "We have a video of this vehicle speeding, ma'am." The office continues to explain. "Do you know how many crime shows I watch? Does it have the exact colour and make of the car?" I question as Chase starts chuckling at me with a fond smile. The officer nods, "Yes." "Licence plate?" "Yes." "Make of the tire?" I question as Officer Jacobs splutters in confusion. "I-what-ma'am-what does that have to do with it?" The officer questions with his arms opened wide in question. I sigh heavily, "Yeah...thats's not going to hold up in court." "What-Who said you were going to court!?" The officer questions, now extremely lost in this entire situation. He then pinches the bridge of his nose and sighs, "Ma'am, please get out of the car." I nod in agreement as I slowly slide myself from between the two front seats, "Yup." authors note "I-what-ma'am-what does that have to do with it?"
