Buelah MacDonald, former slave owned by Angus MacDonald, is indeed an anomaly. Many years before, the youthful beauty had become the concubine of her widower owner. With such miscegenation common in the antebellum South, particularly on the more secluded plantations, the relationship between Buelah and Angus evolved to become one of true affection.
