Forbidden Romance

1044 Words
Allison settled into her new life, she couldn't help but feel a spark of attraction towards Jack. She knew it was wrong, that they were just friends. But the more time they spent together, the more she found herself drawn to him. She tried to push the feelings away, but they kept coming back. She didn't know what to do. Should she ignore her feelings, or should she act on them? She knew that acting on them would be wrong, but she couldn't deny the attraction she felt. One day, as they were working on a new design, Allison found herself lost in thought. She was thinking about Jack, about the way he smiled, and about how his eyes lit up when he was passionate about something. She was so lost in her thoughts that she didn't notice Jack watching her. He saw the way she looked at him, and he felt a rush of excitement. He knew that his feelings were forbidden, but he couldn't help but wonder if she felt the same way. Jack cleared his throat, and Allison's thoughts were interrupted. "Everything okay?" he asked, his voice soft. Allison's cheeks flushed, and she stammered a response. "Y-yes," she said, avoiding his gaze. Jack watched her, sensing her discomfort. He wanted to reassure her, to let her know that everything was okay. But he didn't know how. Instead, he just smiled and said, "Let's get back to work." Allison nodded, grateful for the distraction. But her mind kept wandering back to the same forbidden thoughts. As the days passed, Allison and Jack found themselves growing closer. They began to talk more, and their conversations became more personal. They shared their hopes and dreams, and they found that they had a lot in common. The more they talked, the more they began to see each other as more than just colleagues. But still, they both tried to ignore the feelings that were growing between them. It was wrong, they told themselves. It couldn't be. But no matter how hard they tried, they couldn't deny what they were feeling. One day, as they were working late into the night, the tension finally reached a breaking point. Jack was staring at Allison, his eyes full of a longing that he couldn't hide. She turned to look at him, and for a moment, they just looked at each other. The air was electric, and they could both feel it. Without thinking, Jack reached out and touched Allison's hand. It was just a light touch, but it sent a jolt of electricity through them both. They froze, both unsure of what to do next. Finally, Allison spoke. "We can't do this," she said, her voice trembling. "It's not right." Jack sighed, his shoulders slumping. "I know," he said, his voice full of regret. "But I can't help how I feel. You're special to me, Allison. And I want more than just a professional relationship." Allison bit her lip, unsure of what to say. She felt the same way, but she couldn't bring herself to admit it. They stood there, neither of them moving, until finally, Jack broke the silence. "I'm sorry," he said, looking down at his feet. "I shouldn't have said anything. I know this isn't what you want." Allison felt a rush of sadness. "No," she said, her voice soft. "Don't be sorry. It's not that I don't feel the same way. It's just... complicated." Jack looked up at her, hope shining in his eyes. "What do you mean?" he asked, his voice full of hope. Allison took a deep breath. She knew she had to be honest with him. So she told him the truth. "I've been married before," she said, her voice quiet. "It ended badly, and I'm not sure if I'm ready to try again. I'm sorry." Jack's face fell, and for a moment, he was silent. But then, he took her hand again. "I understand," he said, his voice gentle. "I don't want to push you into something you're not ready for. I just want you to know how I feel." Allison felt a rush of relief. She was glad that he understood, and she appreciated his honesty. But she still didn't know what to do next. As they stood there, lost in thought, Allison heard the sound of the front door opening. "Is anyone here?" a voice called out. . They turned to see Allison's assistant, Jennifer, standing in the doorway. "Hi, Jennifer," Allison said, trying to keep her voice steady. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to interrupt," Jennifer said, looking confused. "It's okay," Allison said, forcing a smile. "Is everything okay?" Jennifer asked, still looking confused. Allison nodded. "Everything's fine," she said, her voice sounding more confident than she felt. Jennifer looked skeptical, but she didn't press the issue. "Well, I just wanted to drop off these papers for you to sign," she said, handing Allison a stack of documents. Allison took them and set them down on the table. "Thanks," she said, trying to sound cheerful. Jennifer hesitated for a moment, as if she wanted to say something else. But then she just nodded and left. Allison and Jack stood there in silence, both unsure of what to do next. Finally, Jack spoke. "I should go," he said, his voice heavy with emotion. "I don't want to cause any problems for you." Allison felt a lump in her throat. "You're not a problem," she said, her voice barely above a whisper. "But I understand if you need to go." Jack looked at her, his eyes full of sadness. "I'll always be here for you," he said. "Even if we can't be together, I'll always care about you." And with that, he turned and walked out the door. Allison stood there, staring at the empty doorway, a million thoughts racing through her mind. She couldn't believe how much had happened in the last few hours. But one thing was clear: She had to make a decision. She could choose to stay in the safe, familiar world she knew. Or she could take a chance and open herself up to something new. She knew what her heart wanted, but her head was telling her something different. What would she do?
