I tugged the sheet to the foot of the bed and examined the damage he had done to himself; cold sweat trickled from the base of his forehead and matted his hairline as he struggled to breathe from under his weight. A stiff breeze drifted into the room with a hint of wildflowers drifting in the air, the roses were dead and replaced with scattered leaves as death hung over the land, trees clung to the earth with withered branches as their roots lay dormant until the next season.
