The distant echoes of chanting vibrated through the cavern walls, a low, pulsating hum that sent an involuntary shudder down my spine. The flickering torchlight danced across the damp stone, casting grotesque shadows that twisted and warped like living things. The air smelled of burning incense, of ancient rites and long-forgotten magic. My wrists burned where the silver chains held me, and though I had tried to focus my energy, every attempt at summoning my magic had left me weaker than before. Panic churned in my stomach.
