Prologue

Alicia’s POV I walked down the passage and wiped away my tears in the hopes that nobody would notice them. My mother had been my only champion in our pack, and now she was gone. I wiped my eyes with my sleeve and at that moment, someone bumped me, forcing my books out of my arms as they went flying through the air. All eyes turned to me. “Stupid girl!” Caspian’s voice echoed throughout the silent passage of the school. I didn’t dare look up at the future Alpha. I knew he did it on purpose! He had been doing things like that to me all my life and I didn’t know if it was because he was just a bully or thought that because my brother was his best friend, he had a right to treat me like that. “Don’t you know you should get out of the way when your Alpha walks down the passage.” He slammed his fist on the locker behind me, effectively trapping me between his arms, but I still didn’t dare look into his eyes. The last time I challenged him, things didn’t end well for me. Why couldn’t he just leave me alone! Today. That was all I asked the moon goddess in these past couple of days since my mother’s funeral. When I didn’t give him the response he probably craved, he moved on and I breathed a sigh of relief as I picked up my books. Three years later Alicia’s POV “I will not marry him!” I shouted before storming out of my father’s office. I couldn’t believe that he had actually sold me to the worst bastard I had ever met! As the daughter of the Beta, I knew that one day soon my father was going to pawn me off on someone, but to have sold me to the son of the Alpha trumped everything else my father ever did to me! My father wasn’t a bad man, but since the day my mother died, it was as if he saw her in me and could no longer stand the sight of me. I knew that he loved me, and wanted only the best for me … But the damn Alpha’s son?! Why couldn’t I wait to meet my destined mate like my parents did? Why did I have to be married to the one man in this entire damn pack that was the biggest chauvinistic asshole ever born! I slammed my bedroom door behind me as tears started to stream down my cheeks. I could run. I would become a rogue, but anything was better than being his damn mate! Caspian’s POV “Father! You can’t be serious!” I had totally prepared myself to walk into my father’s office today and hear that he was ready to hand over control of the pack to me. Instead, he and my mother had just informed me that I was to be mated and, to top it all off, she was my best friend and future Beta’s sister! It was just wrong! “Son, if you are going to take over as Alpha, you need to stop your partying and show our people that you are responsible enough to take care of them.” My parents had been all over me lately about what they called my reckless lifestyle and I knew that I would one day have to give it all up, but where exactly was it written that I had to do that to be able to rule the damn pack. I turned on my heel and stormed out of my father’s office. Over my damn dead body was I going to marry that little brat! As soon as I saw my favourite omega, I grabbed her hand and dragged her to my room. At least, I would be able to take out my anger on her and she wouldn’t complain! Some days, I wondered if she perhaps liked it that rough. I threw her on my bed and smiled as she leaned back opening her legs. She was without panties again, which meant, in my opinion, that she was waiting for me. As soon as I was done with her, I walked to my bathroom to take a shower and knew that by the time I was done, she would be gone. A knock on my door told me it was my future Beta. The boy had a very distinctive knock! “Come in!” I shouted and could tell from the look on his face that he had heard the news. “I don’t want to talk about it.” I pulled up my tight black jeans and grabbed one of my grey V-neck shirts from the drawer before pulling it over my head. “Dude, believe me when I tell you … I don’t want to talk about it either!” He looked positively disgusted and I rolled my eyes. Of course, his damn mind would go straight to the damn gutter! How was I going to ever love his little sister?! It was just wrong! She was a full two years younger than me! I grabbed my keys and pushed past him, almost running down the stairs. “I need alcohol and lots of it.” I told him the moment I saw my parents and he nodded as we walked out the front door and straight to my car. Sliding in behind the driver’s seat, I turned the key and the car came to life. It was one of many. I loved driving and hated it when we had official functions where we were driven somewhere. Pulling the car out of the parking lot, I let the beast loose and enjoyed the speed that came with owning only the best. Alicia’s POV Caspian had a love for certain cars and hearing the engine rev, I couldn’t help myself. I watched as he expertly pulled his car out of the parking lot and sped off into the night. My father told me that his parents were going to inform him tonight as well. Watching him take off like a bat out of hell, didn’t bode very well for our union, did it? I walked back to my bed and dropped down onto the mattress praying, no begging the moon goddess to take me so I wouldn’t have to marry Caspian! I couldn’t run! Hearing my mother’s voice in my head, I knew I wouldn’t run. I would do the duty that was asked of me even if it killed me! I cried myself to sleep at some point during the night, and my dreams were filled with memories of how Caspian had mistreated me over the years. I was a female. Even if I was born the daughter of a beta … I was still a female, which, in his mind, meant I was weak. I turned eighteen just a week ago, and he didn’t even have the decency to show up for my birthday party. He arrived just as we were cleaning up, with one of his girls clinging to him like clingwrap, and he smelled like a distillery! I still remember how much I was thankful that I didn’t recognize him as my mate at that moment. I had to marry the damn future, Alpha! It was not fair! There was an entire hoard of girls they could have mated him with! Why me? In the early hours of the morning, I heard screaming and when I popped my head out of my room, I saw Caspian fighting with his parents. They were screaming so loud that I didn’t even hear my father’s bedroom door open and jumped with fright when he appeared in front of me. His instructions were strict. I had to go back to bed right away. He would deal with whatever they were shouting about, but something told me that it had something to do with me. I couldn’t help but eavesdrop! The volume they were screaming at was loud enough to wake the damn dead! I gasped. “You irresponsible little sh!t!” His father shouted. Their voices became muffled and I couldn’t hear the rest of their conversation. I had a look at my watch and decided I could use the extra time to get ready. I was to have breakfast with the Alpha, Luna and Caspian in a couple of hours and if I had to become Luna of the pack, I would just have to be the best damn Luna they had ever had.
