~RUBY Ella screamed like the world was ending. The detective was the first person to get through the fray and he ran up the stairs, towards the direction of the room. My legs, which were jellied earlier became strangely energetic and I pushed past Ethan, the lawyer and Ash, running after the detective. Ella. The caller was making good on his threats and he had come for Ella while I was still indecisive. Ella. My baby. My best friend. The caller had shown their hand. The crash and Ella's scream made my decision tilt towards siding with the caller and keeping my friend safe. After all, whoever it was knew a meeting, impromptu as it was, was going on and I was close to telling the truth. I would never forgive myself if something had happened to Ella.
