1260 Words
Amalia's mind began racing for a solution, she had been caught by Jesse again, not knowing whether he will let her go this time. She swallowed hard standing there as she could feel his breath on her. Her thoughts were interrupted when she heard his voice. " This is the very last time I'll be letting you go Amalia. Be careful I told you curiosity is dangerous." Saying this he let her go and left into the dark hallway. She released a breath she never knew she was holding but couldn't get herself to move from there for sometime. Jesse's words haunted her the whole night. Even when she tried to sleep, he was the only one that came to her dreams his words replaying. She was tensed the whole night. No matter what she did to forget about him and sleep, all went in vain. She woke up the next morning after a 1 hour sleep and carried on with her morning activities. Carlo still being distant as always. She sat on the dining table contemplating if she should tell him about Jesse's movements or not. Morning had passed quickly and was in her room putting some things in order when her phone rang. Her face furrowed as she went to pick up her phone which very rarely rang. Surprised plastered on her face as she saw the caller. " What does he want this time" she said to herself before picking the call. " Come to the house now. Do not take long" it was her father, the man who put her in this situation. He obviously needs another favor from her. The last time she spoke to him was the day she signed the contract and since she entered this house, he had never called her. She got dressed and left the Rivers mansion in her black SUV car and went straight to the place she once called a home. She entered and was told by the butler her dad was in his office, the very place she signed that contract. She entered the light which was still very dimly lit and which brought her memories as she stood at the door and looked at her dad. His eyes were full of calculations and coldness. “Amalia, I’m glad you came,” he said in a measured tone. “We have matters that must be discussed.” " You made it on time" he said starting the conversation. " There is something important we have to discuss about". " And what important thing can it be, you've already sold me off. Is there something more important than that?". Amalia asked entering the room as she sat down crossing her arms. " Stop talking that way, you know exactly why I did that, I was necessary, it was for the good of all of us." He said leaning back on his chair. " Are my freedom and happiness worthless, why must it be me?" She said as anger flared in her eyes. " Keep calm Amalia, and be strong the cost of survival is not always very easy, do you know how much and all what I've sacrificed? " An unyielding gaze plastered on his face. " Enough of all this why did you call me here?" She said looking at him straight the eyes. " Now that's my daughter speaking. Well I'll be at the Rivers mansion tomorrow. I'll be there to talk to Carlos. It's business related". " And what's my role in all this. Why did you call me ?" She asked folding her arms. " I just wanted to let you know and I'll want us to go there together. The conversation ended there and Amalia left very angry " what could he be planning this time". She said moving out of the kings mansion, she wasn't spending the night here as expected by her dad Amalia drove down the streets of New York as her grip on the steering was very tight. She wondered what her father was up to this time. Whatever it was he was planning, she had to uncover it sooner She reached the Rivers mansion and everywhere was silent since everyone had retired to bed already only the birds could be heard outside. She alighted from the car, and headed for the door. Once she entered and was going to her room, she saw Carlo's study slightly open. Scared that it was Jesse again, she just wanted to run to her room but her legs began walking towards the study. She felt like something wasn't right. She peeked in and saw Carlo who was slumped into his chair dozing off. She pushed the door and entered, the scent of alcohol hitting her nose as she sighed an almost empty glass of whiskey in his table. His tie hung loosely and his buttons were undone. His eyes were hazy. " My God, was his drink tampered with?" Her breath hitched at the thought of this. The first thought which crossed her mind was to leave him there and pretend like she hasn't seen anything. However, she couldn't get herself to allow him alone in this state. She didn't know exactly why she felt for him but she just had to help him out. It was her first time seeing him in this state. "Carlo" she said walking towards him who just sat there, not acknowledging her presence as he was just slowly blinking as if to say his vision was blur. He lifted his eyes and their eyes met. His eyes held no emotion and no calculations like always. He shook in surprise as she felt her wrist being wrapped by his soft fingers sending shivers and warmth through her body. Not knowing what to do, she turned to leave but he pulled her close and said " please stay, don't go". He said in a whisper. The words came out very soft unlike the Carlo she knew, her heart turned into a turmoil. " Should I just run away? Why is he acting this way?" She thought but didn't leave. The night passed by in a way she had never expected. The heat between them was all that remained as it left no room for logic. The pull she had been struggling so hard to deny became clear to her, she was drawn to him. Reality crashed over Amalia when the dawn's first light filtered in the room through the curtains causing her heart to race. " I've made a mistake" she internally cried. She turned to her side and saw Carlo fast asleep looking very peaceful she had never seen him look this way. Trembling, she hurriedly went down from the bed gathering her clothes as she tiptoed to the door not to wake him up. She didn't want him to know she was the one. Reaching the door she turned to look at the peaceful Carlo one last time before running off. His head pounding, Carlos woke up to a very heavy body. He was very exhausted he ran his hand on his head trying to recall what had happened at night but the event seemed not to be clear He then felt a lingering warmth and familiar scent beside him. She smelt the sheets, the scent was very familiar but he could tell where he knew it from causing his brows to furrow. His fists clenched at the thought of someone being on his bed with him the whole night " Who is she?" He questioned.
