Class just finished and now I'm going to the auditorium with TJ to work on the script. Going to the auditorium after class is apparently my new routine.
"So, do you have any idea for this Romeo and Julio?" TJ asked as we take our seat
Unlike yesterday, it's just the two of us here.
"Well, I was thinking that since it's a gay story, we should make some characters homophobic because some people are unfortunately still like that. Maybe their parents?" I answered
"That's a nice idea. I thought you'd suggest to make everyone gay or something."
We both chuckled at his joke.
"That's what you think Trisha would say, don't you?"
"Can't say no to that, unless I'm planning to lie."
I just shook my head and wrote down our first idea. After that, he suggested more ideas.
We were like that for a while. Saying our ideas and opinions with each other then me writing it all down. It was really going well. Seems like we make a good team.
"Oh, an hour already passed." TJ stated after noticing the time in his watch. "What time are you going home?"
"What time are you gonna let me go home?" I returned his question
"Now if you want. No pressure on the whole script thing, but if you wanna work on it at home, you can just text me. We can be text mates."
He raised his eyebrows repeatedly while smiling at me.
"Okay, I guess."
He then stopped what he was doing and gave me a confused look.
"Oh. I didn't think you'd agree."
"Well I am."
His smile got bigger. I just chuckled at him and begun to put my things in my backpack.
"Can I take you home?" TJ's sudden question made me pause. "Because I'm basically the reason why you're coming home kinda late. I made you join my club and even made you the playwright. Just think of it as my apology."
"Hmm, depends. Where do you live?"
"Just around the city's library."
"Cool. My place is in that direction."
He then nodded and silence came after. I can tell that he's waiting for me to give him a clear answer, so I nodded back.
"Okay! Let's go!" He exclaimed cheerfully
We walked out of the school together and we're now on our way home. We were walking quietly, but TJ can't seem to stay quiet for long.
"Hey Shara, can I ask you a question?"
"You're already asking one."
"Besides that one." He chuckled
"Shoot." I just shrugged
"Can we be best friends?"
I got confused at his question and was weirded out at the same time.
"I don't usually ask that." He added and laughed nervously. "I actually think of you as my best friend already."
"Really? Why?"
"Our talk yesterday."
"Oh, that makes sense."
"Yeah, but I asked that I don't want you to get weirded out by me treating you as my best friend." He explained. "Plus it would be nice to be on the same page."
"Okay." I simply answered. "And we're here."
I stopped walking as we reach my place.
"Nice house."
"Thanks. I should get going. Take care on your way home."
"Sure will."
We then said our goodbyes to each other and separated. I walked inside my home while he continued walking.
As usual, I go to my room, put my backpack down and change my clothes.
"Shara~" My mom called me in a singing tone
I then went out of my room and saw her seating in the dining area. She was smiling at me, but her smile seems different.
"Did anything happened?" I asked with a hint of confusion
"No, nothing." She answered and waved her hand lightly. "Just that I witnessed my daughter talking to a boy in front of our home."
That explains the smile.
"His name is TJ. He's our club president." I started introducing even though she wasn't asking. I know she'd ask either way. "He lives around the city's library, so we decided to walk home together since our places are in the same direction."
"Wow. I like your honesty."
"Honesty is the best policy."
"Indeed it is." She chuckled. "So tell me, do you like him or something?"
"Nope. Not at all."
"You guys are not going out?"
"We're best friends."
Mom seemed surprised. It's probably because it's the first time in forever that I have a best friend.
"That's great. You have friends other than your books."
"It's not a big deal."
I don't want this to be dramatic. I already have enough drama in school.
"Well, I didn't interrupt you two earlier, but I'll let you know that the next time I see him, I'm gonna invite him over for dinner."
"And feed him takeouts?"
Since mom comes home at night and I have my club activities, no one gets to cook dinner at weekdays anymore.
"What? He might like it."
"I think feeding guests home-cooked foods is the best thing to do."
"Then have him over this weekend."
I gave him a weird look.
"A girl inviting a boy over for a weekend dinner?" She nodded at my question. "No thanks."
"But you two are best friends and I want to meet him!"
"Okay. How about this? You invite him over for a weekend dinner the next time you see him."
"Well.." She said as she thinks about my suggestion. "I think that's not a bad idea."
"So?"
"Okay."
"Then that's settled." I stated. "Now what's for dinner?"
"Buttered noodles from Max's Eatery."
She took out the food and I took out the plates. We then served ourselves and started eating together.
At the middle of eating, my phone started beeping, meaning someone texted me. Twice. Thrice. Again and again. It kept on beeping.
"I'm assuming that's him?" Mom asked, referring to TJ
I checked the phone and it really is TJ. He already sent 9 messages.
"Yeah. He's probably texting because of the script."
Mom then smiled. Her genuine smile this time.
"I think you'll enjoy high school sweetie."
I don't know why she said that, but I just ignored her statement and continued eating.
