Class got dismissed but I wasn't excited. If I would be going home immediately, then that would be exciting.
But no, that's not the case. Instead of going home, I need to attend the club meeting.
We're here now in the auditorium. It's our stage and club room, two in one. And despite being the vice president, TJ let me took my seat at the back. He's really considering the fact that I don't like any attention focus on me.
"Good afternoon, drama club members!" TJ cheerfully greeted everyone while being on the stage. "I'm the president and founder of the club, Tracy."
They gave him a big round of applause.
"It's so nice to see that this club has gotten bigger in just a week." He continued
"Now let's not be formal." Lyla interrupted. She stood up and walked beside TJ. "You guys already know me. I'm apparently the secretary of the club."
She then looked at me and pointed at me. Oh no.
"And that girl right there is our vice president, her name is Shara."
I couldn't do anything but gulp the lump in my throat as everyone turned their heads to me.
I'm so allergic to attention.
"Okay, stop." TJ said and clap his hands to get everyone look at him. "I need everyone to listen to me."
"It's the first club meeting with all the club members, we should just have fun." Lyla countered
"I called this meeting for a very important club matter." TJ replied with a sense of authority. "You can have your fun after the important stuff."
"Fine." Lyla rolled her eyes
Alex just watched everything unfold and did not even bother to defend his girlfriend.
"And also, please take notes as the secretary of our club." TJ said to Lyla
Lyla didn't seem happy, but she still followed his words.
"So as you all know, in order for our club to be known, we need to appeal to the public, and in order to appeal to the public, we to perform." TJ started. "I called all of you here to talk about our first performance. Since it's our first performance and our club isn't known yet, I was thinking of performing something that's already popular, like Romeo and Juliet. But all of your opinions matter, so I'm open to suggestions."
"Doing Romeo and Juliet isn't a bad idea, but why don't we combine it with another popular thing?"
If I remember it correctly, the girl who just spoke is Trisha. She did an act of a psychotic killer for her audition. She said she based it on a webtoon character named Sangwoo.
"Let's make it Romeo and Julio. Let's turn it into a boys love story!" She continued. "That genre is really popular nowadays, especially to teens like us."
TJ seemed to be confused at her suggestion.
She's not wrong though. Even in books, the boys love genre is indeed popular.
"I don't think we should do something bold for our first performance, but let's list that on the suggestions and vote later." TJ said. "Other suggestions?"
"How about Romeo and Juliet, but angels and demons version?" Another member suggested. I think his name is Clark. "Romeo is a demon and Juliet is an angel. They're enemies, but they fell in love with each other."
"Okay. We're also gonna add that one to the list." TJ responded. "But don't be stuck to the Romeo and Juliet concept. You can suggest a completely another story."
"Anime." Alex suddenly suggested. He's not even a member of the club, why is he participating in the meeting. "So you guys can cosplay and act at the same time. It's gonna be a huge hit if you guys do it well."
"Thank you for that suggestion, Alex. Anyone else?" TJ asked
"A horror movie." Elise answered. "We could choose a horror movie, one that's popular, and convert it into a play."
"Wonderful." TJ commented. He doesn't look any wonderful though. "Any more suggestions?"
This time, no one said a thing.
"I guess that means we have no more suggestions." He said and looked at Lyla. "How many choices do we have?"
"Five, including the original Romeo and Juliet from you." Lyla answered while looking at her list
"So we have five choices to pick from; Romeo and Juliet, Romeo and Julio, Romeo and Juliet but angels and demons version, anime and a horror movie." TJ enumerated the suggestions while counting them on his fingers. "I'll give you a minute to think before we start the voting. I hope each one of you will decide carefully because this first play might decide our club's future. Thank you."
Romeo and Juliet is good, but if we just follow the original plot, then people might find it boring. There should be a twist, at least.
Making it a boys love story is good twist, but it won't be for everyone then. The genre isn't everyone's cup of tea. But making it an angels and demons version would fine for everyone, so should I just vote for that?
Well, if I consider the other two choices, it would be more work. They both need extra effort for the costume and make up.
"Is everyone ready to vote now?" TJ asked and many answered yes. "Let's start voting then."
I voted for Romeo and Juliet angels and demons version, but Romeo and Julio unexpectedly won.
"I guess that ends the meeting?" Lyla asked with a small smile
"Yeah." TJ nodded. "We'll work on the script first, then we'll talk about who'll play who on the next meeting."
"That means it's party time!" Lyla exclaimed and faced everyone. "Guys, we'll have a club opening party at my place and everyone should come!"
I better get out of here.
I stood up and was ready to leave, but Lyla was quick to notice me.
"Miss vice president! That includes you!" She shouted
"I'm good. Thanks." I said
"I said everyone SHOULD come." She emphasized the word 'should'
She was lowkey scary, and the attention was on us.
"Okay."
I felt like I had no choice but to come.
