Gwendolyn hesitated, her eyes flickering with uncertainty as she stood in the doorway of the examination room. The oversized hospital scrubs hung loosely on her frame, making her look even smaller and more fragile than she already was. Ambrose caught the look and raised an eyebrow, letting a teasing smile curve his lips. “What’s the matter? Afraid I’ll eat you alive?” He chuckled softly, keeping his tone light. “Relax. Separate rooms, separate lives. No funny business, I promise.” She shook her head quickly, cheeks flushing despite the lingering pallor of fever. “If you’re really uncomfortable,” he continued, shrugging one shoulder, “I can drop you at a decent hotel nearby.
