Chapter 101

1954 Words

The thunder outside Lakeport continued to growl like a beast in a cage, a low-frequency vibration that rattled the crystal decanters on Gareth Quinn’s mahogany desk. The Director of the Lakeport Development Authority stood by his floor-to-ceiling window, watching the rain wash over the neon lights of the Lakeport Innovation Park. He was drowning in thought. How was he supposed to handle this? The more Gareth analyzed the situation, the more his head throbbed. He felt like a man trapped in a house that was slowly filling with gas; all it would take was one spark from Serena Frost to blow his entire world into the stratosphere. He began to spiral into a dark, desperate place. In the quiet corners of his mind, he found himself praying for a tragedy. It would be so much cleaner, wouldn't it?
