Alpha Darius Draveno made his way into his private chambers within the pack house, a sanctuary reserved for the Alpha and his Luna.
Waiting for him was Luna Mira, her presence alone, enough to capture his attention.
She had prepared herself out of admiration for this crafty and ambitious mate of hers.
Her bare form and seductive gaze stirred desire within Alpha Darius.
Without a word, he stepped closer, slowly removing his clothes until nothing stood between them but the passion they shared.
Luna Mira wrapped her legs tightly around her alpha's waist, anchoring him deep inside her.
As he began to drive in and out, the raw friction sent waves of intense sensation rushing through them both.
She cried out his name, begging for more, as he buried all of him into her, over and over, leaving her dripping wet and completely consumed by the heat.
The next day….
The great hall of Midnight pack-house had never felt so tense.
Few warriors lined both sides of the chamber.
Midnight warriors.
Redclaw warriors.
Every warrior moved carefully, sensing the weight hanging over the room, because everyone understood one thing.
When Alpha Kael Blackthorne and Alpha Darius Dravenor stood beneath the same roof to settle a matter, kingdoms paid attention.
One wrong word could strengthen peace.
One wrong word could start a war.
At the center of the hall stood Alpha Kael.
Beside him stood Commander Megan.
Across from them stood Alpha Darius and his warriors.
Silence ruled the chamber.
Then Kael spoke.
"Alpha Darius."
His voice carried easily across the hall.
"You received my summons."
Darius nodded calmly.
"I did."
"And yet I would prefer to believe the friendship built by our fathers still deserves respect."
Darius inclined his head slightly.
"As would I."
His eyes swept across the room.
"Which is precisely why I came."
The hall remained silent.
Then Darius suddenly turned.
"Gideon."
The single word struck like a command.
A warrior stepped forward immediately.
His face appeared tense.
His shoulders, rigid.
His head lowered.
"My Alpha."
Darius' expression hardened.
"You will answer for yourself."
A murmur swept through the room.
Gideon dropped to one knee.
Then another.
His gaze lowered before both Alphas.
"My actions have brought shame upon Redclaw."
Silence followed.
Then Gideon lifted his head.
"Alpha Kael... I offer my apology."
Kael watched him carefully.
"For what exactly?"
Gideon swallowed.
"For involving an innocent woman."
A pause.
"For using Helen."
The hall became still.
Gideon continued.
"I never intended for matters to reach this point."
Megan's eyes narrowed.
Something about the warrior's tone bothered him.
Then Gideon slowly turned.
His eyes settled on Megan.
Gideon took a slow breath.
His hands clenched into fists.
For a moment, it seemed as though he was struggling with whether to continue.
Then he lifted his head.
"My target was never the Alpha's lineage or midnight pack."
The hall remained silent.
"My target was never Alpha Kael."
His voice grew stronger.
"I never sought to start a war between our packs."
His eyes moved briefly toward Kael.
"Nor would I ever be foolish enough to drag the names of two Alphas into a conflict that should never have reached them."
A pause.
Then his jaw tightened.
"My target was him."
Slowly...
He raised his hand.
Pointing directly across the hall.
Toward Megan.
The room erupted into murmurs.
Megan's eyes narrowed.
"Me?"
Gideon nodded.
"Yes."
Megan frowned.
"What business do you have with me?"
For several moments, Gideon simply stared at him.
Not with amusement.
With frustration.
With years of bottled resentment.
"You really don't know, do you?"
The hall became quiet once more.
Gideon pointed toward Rogan.
"My brother has always been the warrior I admired most."
His voice carried through the chamber.
"The warrior who taught me discipline."
"The warrior who taught me strength."
"The warrior who taught me what it means to stand after defeat."
Rogan remained silent.
But his eyes softened slightly.
Gideon continued.
"When I was young, every story I heard ended with Rogan standing victorious."
A pause.
"He was my hero."
His eyes slowly returned to Megan.
"Then your name appeared."
The atmosphere shifted.
"The Midnight Blade."
"The undefeated warrior."
"The champion everyone spoke about."
"At first, I respected it."
Another pause.
"Then I grew tired of hearing it."
The hall listened.
Every word…. Every breath….. Every emotion.
"I heard merchants praise you."
"I heard warriors praise you."
"I heard visiting commanders praise you."
His voice darkened.
"It was always the same."
'Commander Megan.'
'The strongest warrior.'
'The warrior no one can defeat.'
Gideon's fists tightened.
"And every time I hear it..."
His eyes moved toward Rogan.
"...it felt like my brother was disappearing."
The room fell silent.
"My brother fought."
"He bled…… He sacrificed."
"And still..."
His gaze locked onto Megan.
"Your shadow covered everything."
Megan stared at him.
Unmoved….Unshaken..
Gideon continued.
"When the Champion Trial was announced..."
A faint smile appeared.
"For the first time, I thought fate had finally chosen a side."
His eyes glimmered.
"I thought this was the moment."
"The moment my brother would prove himself."
"The moment people stop speaking your name."
"The moment the kingdom would finally see someone greater."
The smile vanished.
"But you crushed him."
Silence.
"You defeated him."
"You walked away."
"And the stories only grew larger."
The bitterness in his voice was impossible to miss.
"I hated it."
The confession struck the room like a stone.
For the first time, the few warriors present could hear the truth beneath the words.
Not hatred….. Not war…. Obsession.
Wounded pride….. Years of comparison…… Years of frustration.
Years of watching one man's legend grow while another remained overlooked.
Gideon lowered his head.
"So I searched for something."
"A flaw……. A weakness."
"Anything."
His voice became quiet.
"I told myself that if Commander Megan could not fall in battle..."
A pause.
"Then perhaps he could fall somewhere else."
The hall remained frozen.
"And when I discovered Helen..."
His eyes shut briefly.
"I made the worst decision of my life."
Another silence.
"I used her."
The admission sounded heavier now.
More honest…..
"I convinced myself it would expose him."
"I convinced myself that if Midnight's perfect warrior stumbled..."
His voice cracked slightly.
"...then maybe the rest of us will finally be seen."
No one spoke…… Not even Darius….. Not even Kael.
The confession had become something bigger than blame.
It had become the ugly truth of envy.
The dangerous truth of obsession.
Finally, Gideon lowered his head completely.
"I was wrong."
The words echoed through the hall.
"I never wanted war."
"I never wanted to insult Alpha either."
"I only wanted to prove that Commander Megan was not untouchable."
His shoulders sagged.
"And because of that foolish desire..."
He looked toward Kael.
"I brought shame upon my pack."
Then he looked towards Megan.
"And upon myself."
The words lingered.
Gideon lowered his head.
"I wanted to prove that Midnight's perfect warrior was not untouchable."
Megan stared at him.
"What does that have to do with Helen?"
Gideon answered immediately.
"I thought if I could not challenge your strength..."
His eyes darkened.
"...then perhaps I could expose a weakness."
The hall erupted into whispers.
Kael's expression hardened.
"You sought to destabilize one of my commanders?"
Gideon lowered his head.
"Yes, Alpha."
Alpha Kael continued.
"And in doing so, you endangered relations between our packs."
"Yes, Alpha."
"And used an Omega as a tool?"
A pause.
"Yes, Alpha."
The silence that followed felt heavy.
Then Kael's gaze shifted toward Darius.
The Redclaw Alpha remained calm.
Unbothered…… Almost disappointed.
Darius finally spoke.
"You now understand why I came personally."
His voice carried through the hall.
"This was not an order from Redclaw." Alpha Darius continued.
He looked toward Gideon.
"This was the foolish obsession of a warrior who allowed admiration, pride, and resentment to cloud his judgment."
Gideon lowered his head even further.
"I accept whatever punishment follows."
The hall slowly relaxed.
The explanation sounded reasonable.
Convincing…. Complete… Too complete.
Kael remained silent.
Across the hall, Megan felt the same unease.
The story answered every question.
Yet somehow...
It answered them too perfectly.
Kael studied Darius.
The Redclaw Alpha met his gaze without hesitation.
Calm….. Controlled….. Prepared.
For several moments, Alpha looked away.
Then Kael finally spoke.
"The matter concerning Gideon will be addressed."
Darius nodded.
"As it should."
The gathering slowly began to settle.
Warriors exchanged looks.
The tension eased.
To everyone watching, the situation appeared resolved.
The culprit had confessed.
The motive had been explained.
The friendship between the two packs remained intact.
But as Kael watched Darius turn away...
The warning from his dream returned.
A kingdom falling from within.
Something inside him refused to rest, because while Gideon had confessed...
Kael could not shake the feeling that he had only been shown the surface of a much deeper trut
h.
And standing beside him, Megan felt exactly the same.
Somewhere behind the confession...
Behind the apology...
Behind the carefully arranged answers...
Something remained hidden.
And whatever it was...
It had Darius Dravenor's fingerprints all over it.
