Charlie took my silence as fear. He planted himself in front of me, staring down his nose with pure contempt. "Didn't you hear Vivi? Apologize. Bark like a dog. Otherwise, you won't be walking out of the Crownstone Group today."
I lifted a brow. "And if I refuse?"
"Excuse me? Believe it or not, all it takes is one phone call from me and nobody in this business will ever dare hire you again," Charlie snapped.
Simon smirked and nodded in agreement, "Charlie, why bother talking to her? Give her what she deserves."
Vivian stayed tucked behind Charlie with the corners of her mouth curling upward. Then she deliberately squeezed out two tears in front of my brothers.
"Diana, please apologize. My brothers have awful tempers. I'm really scared they'll hurt you. Don't worry. As long as you apologize and bark like a dog, I'll forgive you."
The employees nearby all murmured in support of Vivian.
"Poor Vivian."
"If Diana knows what's good for her, she'll apologize before this gets any worse."
"The three young and rich heirs are amazing. They really know how to protect their sister."
I held back my anger and let out a cold chuckle. "The Stewart family, is that it?"
I met Charlie's gaze and said each word slowly. "If you don't apologize today, you won't be leaving the Crownstone Group either."
Charlie laughed out of sheer irritation. He fixed his eyes on me and was about to answer when the blare of a car horn interrupted him.
A Porsche tore into the business park like it owned the place and rolled straight across the lawn.
I narrowed my eyes. Unless I remembered wrong, that car had always been parked in the underground garage at the Stewart family mansion.
David, the chauffeur who managed the garage, climbed out of the driver's seat. During the time I had been away, his family had apparently started treating the Stewart family's garage as their own.
The back door opened and Debra Smith, my family's housekeeper, stepped out.
Debra was dressed in Chanel and carried a Hermès handbag. Jewelry covered her from head to toe. Most of it had belonged to me before I tossed it into my walk-in closet to gather dust. I never expected to see it decorating my housekeeper.
She strode over in her high heels and stopped beside Vivian.
"What happened? We're here to back you up. Nobody gets to bully you! Charlie and the boys have promised that after we finish here, we'll take you to a three-Michelin-star restaurant."
David deliberately put on a stern expression. Wearing a custom suit that clearly didn't fit, he carried himself like a successful businessman. "Charlie, Kevin, Simon, why did you three come over for something this minor?"
The employees started whispering again.
"Oh my God! Vivi's parents are here too? Are they Mr. and Mrs. Stewart?"
"We work for a subsidiary, so we never get to see the chairman. They really looked like they came from money."
"That Porsche is a worldwide-limited edition. You can't buy one no matter how rich you are."
"Vivian has the perfect life. Her parents and brothers spoil her so much. That intern never stood a chance."
I couldn't stop myself from rolling my eyes. My father had given me that Porsche for my birthday last year. I thought the color was too flashy, so I left it sitting in the garage untouched.
I never imagined David and Debra would steal it, then drive it here to pretend they were high society.
Once Debra finished comforting Vivian, she whipped around and glared at me. "So you're the country girl who bullied Vivi? Look at the rags you're wearing. You smell like poverty. What gave you the nerve to get anywhere near Vivi?"
She pointed a finger covered in jeweled rings at my face and shouted, "Apologize to Vivi right now. Otherwise, I'll make sure you can't survive at this company!"
Vivian quickly caught Debra's hand and put on her usual sweet and obedient look. "Mom, don't get upset. She isn't worth making yourself sick over."
David gave a dismissive snort and brushed at his suit like he was dusting it off.
"Vivi's far too kind. Someone who doesn't know her place has no business staying at the Crownstone Group. Charlie, what do you want to do with her? Should I get a few men to throw her out?"
