Chapter 3

875 Words
“Do you always finish this late?” Adrian asked, needing to know at least something about his mate. He had so much to ask, so much to say, he didn't know where to start. So he figured talking about her schedule was as good a start as any. “No, only on weekends,” she responded as she nervously rearranged a fallen lock back into her messy bun. “Oh, so when's your day off?” Adrian hoped he wasn't bothering her with his questions. He just couldn't help the need to know more about her. “Thursday is my day off,” she told him with a small smile. “Okay, cool.” he memorized the information. If he was one very lucky vampire, maybe she'll agree to meet up with him on Thursday. “If you don't mind me asking, why do you put up with what your boyfriend did back at the restaurant?” He asked after a few seconds of silence. “He's a gangster,” she told him on a sigh, “he's used to getting his way.” Adrian didn't understand why she thought that might explain things for it didn't. Surely, there was more to the story than she let on. He wondered if he could ask her another question, but she beat him to it. “Do you always rescue damsels in distress?” He liked the teasing tone she used. If she was being familiar with him, it could only be a good sign. “It's the gentlemanly thing to do,” he answered her sincerely. He had been raised well after all, with him being a royal and all. “Of course,” she giggled, unable to help finding his serious tone hilarious in the circumstances. “I'm serious,” he told her bemused. What could be so funny? He was only telling her the truth. “Yeah, sorry.” She told him, sounding anything but apologetic. As they turned a corner, she shifted a worried gaze to him. “I may sound paranoid but I think we're being followed,” she whispered, holding onto his leather jacket for reassurance. He chuckled. “Those are my bodyguards. Surely, you've seen them at the restaurant.” She turned to have a proper look at their pursuers, only to find out the two guys had been sitting in her section as well. “Oh. Bodyguards, huh?” She finished with a little whistle. “What do you need them for?” Adrian had to admit he liked her questions almost as much as he liked questioning her. Truth be told, he wanted to tell her about himself as well, but knowing her was a more urgent issue. The vampire within him demanded that he knew all there was to know about his mate. “One might never know,” he told her lightly, shrugging his shoulders nonchalantly. Cass enjoyed their small talk. It was her first time meeting someone who required bodyguards on a daily basis. Only she didn't really understand the need for them when he fought so well. Riches and their privileges! She would probably never understand them. "Can you tell me about yourself then?" She asked, her curiosity getting the better of her. "Well, my name is Adrian, and I'm a vampire prince." His serious tone made her laugh, and she had to admit she had needed to laugh. "Really now?" She teased, her eyes twinkling. "Yeah." "So, what do you do for a living, oh vampire prince?" She couldn't help but tease him. It had been a long time since she last enjoyed flirting. Boyfriend or not, she couldn't help the attraction she felt for this handsome stranger. "Well, nothing," he told her in a duh-tone, "I'm a vampire prince. That said, I enjoy painting, and I'm told I'm a wonderful pianist." "That's it?" She c****d her eyebrow in disbelief, a smirk tugging at the corner of her lips. "Oh, and I'm good company." "I can attest to that," she giggled, enjoying his jokes and loving his British accent more than she should. She had a boyfriend, she shouldn't be encouraging Adrian. He might think she was easy; which she wasn't. Only you wouldn't mind having him in your bed, her dirty mind countered. “We're here,” she told him as she came to a stop in front of her building. “Oh, okay.” Was it bad that she found what looked like a pout cute? She must be imagining things, for surely a man like him valued his time. Could she allow herself to believe he wasn't in a rush to leave her? “Thank you for accompanying me,” she told him sincerely. “You're welcome. See you soon,” he brought her hand to his lips, making her flesh tingle while red tinted her cheeks. Would she see him again? Hell, should she see him again? She wasn't sure. He was out of her league and she had a boyfriend already – a boyfriend she wanted to get rid of, but a boyfriend nonetheless. “See you,” she greeted back with a bright smile, her cheeks still very much aflame to her utter and complete dismay.
