"As you can see, the woman is not someone to be messed with," the officer said, addressing Gabriella, who appeared to be the older of the two women. Gabriella was at a loss, unsure of what to do. At this point, wasn't it advisable to tell the truth and risk deportation rather than provide fake details, get caught, and face jail time? Gabriella was lost in thought while Maria tried to think creatively to get them out of the mess.
"I don't think you're ready to give us what we want. You guys must be feeling quite at home here," the officer said angrily and sarcastically, standing up rudely, irritated by the way they had been wasting her time.
"Oh well, uh, we're... umm... immigrants," Gabriella finally admitted, scratching the back of her neck nervously.
The trio – the officer, Katherine, and her lawyer – reacted with shock. "What?!?" they exclaimed in unison. "These stinky brats are immigrants?!" Katherine yelled, dashing towards Gabriella.
"You will not touch a hair on my mother," Maria said coldly, stepping between Katherine and Gabriella.
"Hey, little witch! Stay out of this!" Katherine snapped.
"No! She's my mother, and you have no right to touch her," Maria defended.
Katherine shot both mother and daughter an angry stare before turning to the officer. "I'll make them rot in jail for property damage and..."
"And what?" Maria cut in rudely.
"Being illegitimate citizens," Katherine finished, her voice heavy with malice.
"That's not your concern, madam. It's for the law to determine our punishment. What are your charges for the damaged car?" Maria fired back sharply at Katherine, who looked both shocked and amused by Maria's daring response. The young woman's boldness was unexpected, given her status.
The officer's expression turned stern, her eyes narrowing at Maria's boldness. "Enough, young lady. We'll determine the charges and consequences. You both will be detained pending further investigation."
Katherine smirked, her eyes gleaming with triumph. "I'll make sure they regret ever crossing me."
Maria stood tall, her eyes locked on Katherine's. "We'll face whatever comes next, but we won't be intimidated."
The officer nodded to the bailiffs. "Take them into custody."
As the bailiffs approached, Maria and Gabriella exchanged a worried glance. They knew the consequences of being undocumented immigrants, and their future looked bleaker by the minute.
Katherine's lawyer whispered something in her ear, and she smiled slyly. "There's more to this situation than meets the eye, officer. I believe these women may have more to hide than just their immigration status."
The officer raised an eyebrow. "What are you insinuating, Ms...?"
Katherine's smile grew wider. "Let's just say I have reason to believe they're not who they claim to be. And I'll make sure to uncover the truth."
Maria's heart sank. What did Katherine know, and how would it affect their situation?
As the bailiffs led them away, Maria's determination began to waver. She glanced at her mother, seeing the fear in her eyes. They were in grave danger, and Maria knew she had to think fast.
In the holding cell, Maria's anxiety grew. She paced back and forth, trying to come up with a plan. But every door she tried led to a dead end.
Katherine's words echoed in her mind: "There's more to this situation than meets the eye." What did she know? And how could Maria protect her mother?
As the hours ticked by, Maria's pride began to falter. She thought of all the ways she could lose her mother, all the ways their lives could be torn apart.
In desperation, Maria asked to speak with Katherine. She was taken to a private room, where Katherine sat, her expression triumphant.
"Please," Maria said, her voice barely above a whisper. "Don't do this to my mother. She's innocent. I'll do anything, just don't separate us."
Katherine's smile grew wider. "Anything?" she repeated. "We'll see about that."
Maria's heart sank. She knew she'd underestimated Katherine's cunning and power. Now, she had to swallow her pride and face the consequences.
Katherine handed Maria a document, her eyes gleaming with mischief. "Sign this, and I'll make sure you're both released without being deported." Maria's heart sank as she read the document, her mind racing with the implications. The contract stated that she and her mother would comply with Katherine's requests without question or resistance.
"Mom, don't sign it," Maria whispered urgently, her eyes pleading with Gabriella.
But Gabriella's gaze was resolute. "We have no choice, mija. We can't risk being separated." With a heavy heart, Maria signed the document, followed by Gabriella.
Katherine smiled, satisfied. "Now, let's get one thing clear," she said, her voice dripping with command. "Maria, you'll be serving me. I expect absolute obedience whenever I call. Here's my contact information."
Maria's eyes dropped, her pride wounded. She felt a sense of unease, unsure what lay ahead.
As they left the police station, Katherine's influence seemed to stretch far and wide. She whisked them away in her luxurious car, dropping them off in front of their stall.
"Tomorrow, I'll send a car for you, Maria," Katherine said, her voice cold. "Be ready."
With that, she drove off, leaving Maria and Gabriella to wonder what their future held. As they watched the car disappear into the distance, Maria's phone buzzed. She glanced at the screen, her heart skipping a beat.
A text from an unknown number.
"I love you, always remember this"
Maria's eyes widened as she stared at the message. Who could have sent this? And what did they mean? The words sent a shiver down her spine.
Gabriella noticed Maria's expression and asked, "Mija, what's wrong?"
Maria hesitated, unsure whether to share the message. "Just a wrong number, Mom," she said, deciding not to worry her mother.
The billionaire's mansion loomed large, its grandeur and opulence a testament to Katherine's wealth and influence. She walked through the halls, her heels clicking on the marble floor.
In the study, her son Donald sat playing video games on his console, oblivious to the drama that had just unfolded. Katherine watched him for a moment, a mixture of pride and concern etched on her face.
Meanwhile, her husband Robert lay bedridden in his room, his condition deteriorating with each passing day. Katherine's expression softened as she gazed at him, a hint of genuine emotion beneath her tough exterior.
But her thoughts quickly turned to Maria, the young woman who had unwittingly caught her attention. Katherine's eyes narrowed, her mind racing with possibilities.
What would Maria's role be in her life from now on? Would she prove to be a useful pawn or a rebellious adversary?
With a mischievous grin, Katherine walked to her room and made a call. Her eyes sparkled with anticipation as she dialed the number.
"Hello?" a voice answered on the other end.
"It's me," Katherine said, her voice husky. "I have a new project in mind. A young woman named Maria. She's feisty and determined. I think she'll be perfect."
The voice on the other end listened intently, asking a few questions about Maria's background and Katherine's plans.
Katherine's grin grew wider as she outlined her intentions. "I want her to be loyal only to me. Make it happen.”
