Chapter 3

ALPHA JEREMIAH POV The border was too quiet. I crouched behind the trees, studying Alpha Alexander’s territory while Killian moved beside me. “No guards,” Killian muttered. “I’ve checked the east and west trails. Nothing.” I didn’t answer straight away. That was exactly what bothered me. The Lycan king wasn’t stupid he was almost as cunning as I was . He never made mistakes ,he was very calculating and brutal. If we made one mistake he would wipe us all out. “No Alpha leaves his borders unguarded.” Killian frowned. “Maybe they’re getting careless.” I let out a low laugh. “Alexander?” I shook my head. “That man butchered half my pack. He doesn’t make careless mistakes.” Killian fell silent. Alexander had wiped out the Silver Nights without mercy. He slaughtered my father, stole our pups and raised them as loyal soldiers. I had spent years rebuilding what he destroyed. Now it was my turn. And this time I was going to win. “What do you think he’s hiding?” Killian asked. “I don’t know yet.” I looked over the walls again. “But I know he’s baiting someone.” Killian gripped the sword at his side. “Then let’s hit them tonight.” “No.” He looked at me. “If we attack without knowing what’s waiting for us, we’ll die before we reach the gate.” “So we just watch?” I almost sighed ,Killian was too impatient and too forward. One would think after twenty years of training with me he would have learned by now that patience was very important. That is exactly how we survived , fighting against a Lycan was a dangerous thing. Lycans were not like us ,they were ten times faster and a hundred times more dangerous . It took me 15years to study Alexander, know his strengths and weaknesses . How he moved , what made him tick. “We learn.” He sighed but nodded. “You always were the patient one.” “And that’s why I’m still alive.” I pointed towards the tree line. “Look carefully.” Killian narrowed his eyes. “The guards aren’t standing on the border.” “No.” “They’re protecting something closer to the pack.” A slow grin spread across my face. “Exactly.” Alexander wasn’t defending his land. He was defending whatever was inside it. “Find out what it is,” I ordered. “And if we get caught?” “Then you failed.” Killian chuckled. “I missed that charming personality of yours, Alpha.” I smirked. “You’ll miss breathing more if you ignore my orders.” He laughed quietly before disappearing deeper into the trees. I remained where I was, watching. The night was silent. Too silent. Then my wolf growled. Mate. I froze. A soft scent drifted through the wind. Lavender. Fresh rain. It wrapped around me, impossible to ignore. My wolf pushed forward. Mine. I followed the scent through the trees until I reached a small clearing. She stood beneath the moonlight. White hair shimmered around her shoulders as she looked up at the sky with the faintest smile on her lips. She looked… peaceful. My wolf wanted to close the distance between us. To touch her. To claim her. A twig snapped beneath my boot. Her head whipped around. Our eyes met. Shock flashed across her face. She took one step back. “Who’s there?” Before I could answer, Killian appeared behind me. “There she is,” he whispered. “She’s from Alexander’s pack.” His hand moved to his sword. “We should take her.” I grabbed his arm before he could move. “No.” Killian stared at me. “Alpha—” “I said no.” “But she’s alone.” “Exactly.” He looked between me and the girl. “You know her?” I didn’t take my eyes off her. “My mate.” Killian’s eyes widened. He looked at her then me again. “What?” “You heard me.” His expression hardened. I knew what he was thinking ,it was clever but bad timing. My wolf wasn’t having any of it. He wanted to have Killians head for even thinking it. “Even better. We can use her.” My voice turned cold. “No one touches her.” She was still watching us, ready to run. Killian lowered his voice. “If she’s Alexander’s daughter, this is our chance.” “I know exactly who she is.” “Then let me grab her.” He insisted,to him this was the perfect chance for us to make our move. Alexander’s daughter would make the perfect leverage. I finally looked at him. One look was enough. Killian immediately stepped back. “Stand down.” “But Alpha—” “That’s an order.” For a moment he hesitated. Then he bowed his head. “Yes, Alpha.” “Take the men and leave.” “And you?” “I’m staying.” Killian studied me for a second before giving a slow nod. “Don’t do anything reckless.” I smirked. “When have I ever?” Killian snorted. “Every single day.” He signaled to the others hidden in the trees before disappearing into the darkness. Now it was just me… …and my mate. She walked two steps back suddenly alert and ready to defend herself "who are you! You better stay right where you are!" "I am Jeremiah and you... Oh you are my mate. What a blessed night it is" I smirked and her Jaw dropped. She watched me with fear in her eyes before turning and running back toward the pack. I made no move to follow. A smile spread across my face. Fate had just handed me the perfect way into Alexander’s territory. And I never ignored an opportunity.
