Part 3 chapter 8

Once we get Star to change back a second time and I explained to her how amazed I was to have a sister as strong as her, she didn't run away from her problems, she stood there and helped. “Oh and Star, I don't know if mine did this but your gem necklace lit up when you transformed,” I say remembering what happened, she thinks for a bit and replies  “Yours does too, now that I think of it.” we smile at each other and snicker at the fact that they were Demon stones. I read about them in my book and I knew they were very important to a demon. I tell star what I have read about the demon stones in the book. “They are stones that will light up as a demon releases its true form, the stones possess magic that calms a demon down so it doesn't lose control of its powers or transform uncontrollably as much as they would without it. It has a secret power only some demons can harness, it is unknown to most demons. A half demon’s stone will light up faintly but most half-demons will have powers that most true demons don't.” I say smiling. The more I think about it the more I realize that maybe Star will be okay after all.  The day passed by and our aunt didn't get home until late so we talked till we were ready to sleep. She was okay with us staying here for a bit but I didn't tell her why I couldn't risk her doing something about it. Once we got to our beds we lay down and smile at each other. The day has been eventful and awesome. Star fell asleep quite fast being worn out. I look out the window into the darkened sky and sighed. “I caused Star to turn into a demon, what would happen if others find out?” I ask myself as I start to fall asleep. I lay down and my eyes shut. I awake in the very same room as I have multiple times, knowing what comes next I sigh and sit down waiting for the wolf. “Right on time…” I say as he appears through the darkness.  “Emma, you do know what's coming right…?” he asks.  “Yes Ava is coming for me again, I don't know when or how she’s going to do it this time but I know I'm not going to make it out this time,” I say looking down at what would be the ground. “As long as Star is okay I'm happy,” I say smiling. The wolf looks away from me and the dream ends.  I wake up to see Star still sleeping I can’t help but look away in guilt, I never wanted Star to become something that is so hard to deal with. I knew she would get used to it like I did but it was hard for me to even accept that I was something I was going to get killed for being. “As long as nobody finds out…” I say to myself smiling at Star. I headed downstairs to see our Aunt looking at an old photo of me and Star. I smile at her coming to see the picture. It was the first time Star and I saw a cat. I laughed at Star’s curious look. I ask my Aunt if I can make breakfast and she nods flipping more pages of her scrapbook. I smile knowing just what to make. I gather flour, butter, eggs, and a special mint juice used to make our special mint green pancakes. I smile knowing Star used to make them for the whole family when we could, she even wanted to send them in boxes to others. I began making the first pancake when I hear Star come down the stairs. “Star don't come in here!” I yell, I began giggling hearing Stars confusion.  Once we have eaten all the pancakes we began talking about how long we're going to stay here. “Your mom said as long as you like, and she knows you would probably stay here for a long time. Don't worry though it’s okay to me!” my Aunt said smiling. Star and I look at each other and smile.  “Thank you Aunty!” we both say together. We hugged her and began talking more and more. The room goes silent as we lose interest to talk. “Ok, Aunty me and Star are going to our room again!” I say smiling.  “Ok,” she says going back to her book. We sit on our beds upstairs and sigh how long will we have to live here? Will it really be safe to stay this close to the city? I wonder and wonder how Ava will find us, or will she ever know that what she did was make this a lot harder for herself. I smile thinking more about it. We will be safe here, I know of it. Star and I will be okay, or is the thing I said with the wolf actually going to come true? I stop thinking about it and smile at Star. “I guess we're going to stay here for a while, huh…” I say with a giggle.  “I guess so,” she replies with a smile.
