Demon girl

Part 3 chapter 6

The next day I woke up early for a plan, I know it’s not a good plan but I need to try. I grabbed my school bag, grabbed some snacks, grabbed an extra blanket and my coat. “If I'm wanted dead I need to make sure there is no way Star could get hurt,” I mumble to myself. I look towards our room and tear up. “May as well say goodbye at least…” I say walking to the room. As I open the door I see she’s not there. I'm calm because this has happened time and time again.

I walk back to the door and put my bag on my back. I put my hand on the handle and as I was about to turn it the door opened. “Emma? What are you doing?” Star asked. I look at her startled, I didn't want her to know I was running away… 

“I'm…” I couldn't manage any other words, tears filled my eyes, and my heart felt empty. 

“I know what you're doing Emma, and I'm coming with you! I know you're going to tell me not to but they're after me too.” Star said tears filling her eyes.

We leave our house and smile at each other. Star seemed distracted and wouldn't make eye contact. I was thinking she was hurt from yesterday but I didn't know. “Star is there something on your mind?” I ask looking at her. She avoided eye contact and stayed silent. I knew something was up now, I wish I could help but we needed to get out of the city before Ava or others find us. “Star let's go to our aunt's farm! We will be safe there!” I say smiling, she smiled back and hugged me.

We finally reach the end of the city and Star begins to mumble to herself. It surprised me because I have never seen her do it before. “Hey, Emma! Let's play an animal game in that tall grass!” she said excitedly. I smiled knowing we have some time to spare and it wouldn't hurt to have some fun! I run into the grass ahead of Star and hear her yell at me. She runs in after me and we both go chasing each other around. I stop and fall to my knees after hearing a growl right beside me. 

I try not to squeal and I spread my wings out making me look bigger. I began remembering why our aunt forbids us to go into the tall grass. My wings cramp and I fall to my knees, it was cougars! I heard Star running around still but it was focused on me. I look frantically through the grass trying to find out where it was. I look all around to find out where the growling was, I realized it was behind me and as I turn around it pounced. I scream as the cougar pinned me down. Star heard my scream and started yelling out my name.

As I finally get enough bravery I yell out to Star my position and not to come near me. “Emma! Please!” she cries out. There was silence. The cougar didn't want to hurt me but didn't want me near the area so it just stood over me pinning me to the ground. I hear Star gasp for air and what sounded like a fall to the ground. I got worried there were more cougars and I was in my full demon form unable to do anything because I was in full confusion and panic. I hear a soft whisper of Star’s voice saying “help…” 

I worry about what has happened to Star and began panicking. In the blink of and eye, I see a fireball hit the cougar with more force than pain. It knocked the cougar over and there was a light burn where the flame hit. The cougar laid confused and winded beside me, I wanted to help it but I knew I would get hurt doing so. I stood up uneasy and tried to think of the fireball, it didn't burn any of the grass it touched and was aimed right at the cougar, it didn't burn it as much as it would, and it looked just like my demon fire… but blue.

I stop and listen to the sounds around me, I could hear the cougars breathing, grass rustling, and a slightly familiar cry. “Star?!” I yell realizing it was her crying. I rush over to see Star a demon just like me… I fall to my knees knowing the pain of an uncontrolled switch, especially a first switch. I knew she was in a lot of pain and the guilt of becoming something she deep down was terrified of was just terrifying! “Star…” I said tilting her head up to see her face. Her eyes were tightly shut, I knew she hated the way she looked but I still loved her.
