A semi peaceful Saturday night ruined by my overthinking mind. “Hey Star, do you think I should tell them about the demon?” I say looking at her through the darkness.
“I don't know. I think you should, it would make things better. if they are good friends they won't judge.” She said. I smiled at her. She knew just what to say to make me happy no matter how sad I am, although I'm still not too sure about Ava. Those questions she asked seemed more informational then curious.
“Thanks,” I replied. We sit in silence, bored and wide awake. I sit up and move to the edge of the bed. “Star I'm going for a fly wanna come?” she looked up at me and shook her head. “Wow… ok. I'll be near the house if you wanna join later…” I turn towards her confused but leave. “She usually wants to come with me…” I mumbled to myself walking to the back door.
I walk into the back yard and let my wings appear. It never hurts if I make them appear by myself but when it happens on its own it does, it's like sharp knives stabbing out of you from the inside.
I look up into the starry night sky and spread my wings. It’s hard to see the excellent deep red and magenta wings in the night but the darker the night the cooler it looks. I prepare myself and take off, my wings were strong even if it wasn't normal. I start flying higher and look down at the house. I sigh and look around to see if anyone was looking. I dive down towards a field and spread my wings bursting up into the air.
“Hehe.” I fly upwards towards the moon and look for somewhere to rest. I decide to sit on the roof of our house. As I land I start to think of why Star didn't want to fly with me. “She’s probably just tired,” I say to myself. I look up at the moon as my mind goes blank and my eyes start to close. “Ugh, I should head to bed and sleep,” I mumbled flying down to the door. I walk inside soon after fading my wings. “I'm back Star,” I say going up the stairs to our room. The silence was the only response. I walk in the room and see Star on her side. Probably asleep.
I start to get on my bed but stop when I hear the light whimper of Star’s voice, slowly turning into a cry. “Star? Star!” I rush over to her bed panicked. Was she hurt in the fight? I pause and calm myself talking quietly. “Star come on, wake up now. You're having a nightmare.” I say putting my hand on her shoulder gently.
Then it was quiet except for the whimpers of Star until she finally said something. “I'm sorry Emma…” I was confused, and still very scared.
“Star, please tell me what happened,” I say.
Star sits up on her bed and looks over at me with tears still rolling down her face. I wipe them away as she begins talking. “I just had a nightmare nothing to worry about,” she said looking away. She wouldn't look me in the eyes so I knew something was wrong.
“Please Star…” I say almost in a demanding voice.
“Ok... I saw you and me but I was a demon with powers like you and you were hurt and i-i was the one hurting you,” she said starting to cry again.
I laugh softly. “Aren't I the one supposed to be having nightmares?” I pat her head softly. “It’s ok Star, everything will be alright.” I reassured her “come on let's get some sleep.” I say calm and standing up. “We both need some” While talking I realized she had already fallen back asleep.
In the morning everyone met up at our house and we were all wanting to hang out. Once Star and I got outside I want to go to tell them but had a mini panic attack falling to the ground in front of all of them “are you ok Emma?” Star asks as the others look to see if I'm ok. I quickly stand up
“yeah sorry tripped on my shoe.” I brush myself off and join the others shooting Star a glace that more or less tells her not to bring it up until I was ready.
“Hey Star do you think I should tell them?” I whisper. She looks over at me and smiles. “Ok.” I say “ill tell them once we reach the park.”
5 minutes later we reach a park and I have almost forgotten what I wanted to say until Star smiled at me again. She knew I was worried. “H-hey guys…” I say calling them over. they all stop and come over. We all sit on a nearby picnic table and I try to regain my courage. “I wanted to tell you guys something…” I began.
Before I start again Ava interrupts “is it about the thing that happened with your eyes yesterday?” she asks.
“Y-yeah a little. Well anyway I… kinda have this ‘demon’ side to me and well there is… a lot I need to tell you guys…” I take a breath trying to figure out how to word this.
“So I have always had this ‘demon’ side to me, passed down from our father. Yes, I have wings and whatnot, but I hate this because I can snap at people. I mostly use it to protect the people I care about and sometimes I can lose control of my… powers. I am good at controlling my wings the most, to me their just another limb.” I finish and see my friends half scared and shocked. Ava was the most convinced but seemed least satisfied. Should I have explained it more? Maddie was the least convinced but maybe she wanted to test me, she had the guts to ask me to show my wings. “Ok…” I calm down and let my wings appear. Being scared they would hate me made it a tad bit painful. I wince making them look at me a bit concerned.
As my wings open I hear gasps from my friends. But I knew that it wouldn't quite prove the wings were real so I spread my wings and burst into the air. with a smirk on my face, I glide slowly back down. All of them were amazed and Star sat there smiling, she was glad I hadn't hidden it anymore. “So who wants to go for a ride?” I ask. All of them were scared at first but then they all started asking so I did one lap with all of them around the park one at a time. They all loved it and didn't hate me for it. I was happy, someone finally stayed my friend knowing that if I lose control I could kill them… at least I hope they know. As I was about to let Maddie off of my back everyone pounced on me laughing and dragging me to the ground. I flapped my wings hard laughing and soon collapsing as I couldn't carry the weight of them all. We all fall and laugh smiling softly. “God you guys are awesome,” I say trying to push them off me.
