"You can go now." I tell him, I didn't want him to see what I was about to do.
"I wanna see this Lia," I groan.
I place on foot onto the windowsill, thanking God that my dress had a slit. I jumped boosting myself up to get into the house through the window. Unfortunately, knowing my luck, my footing slipped and I fell. I landed on my back inside the bathroom.
My legs were still over the windowsill, in the air, and my dress dropped down onto my face, revealing my legs over the window. I quickly pulled them down and scrambled back onto my feet. I popped my head out the window to see Xavier with a trace of a smile on his face.
"I'm in the house now. Bye!" I say to him, the ground should just open up and swallow me.
"You are something else, Lia." he murmurs, driving off.
After I see his car leave my block, I drag myself to my bedroom. I fall back onto my bed and sigh. After a couple moments I slip out of my dress and put it away in my closet, I wash my makeup off and go into the living room.
I wake up Jasmine, who's sleeping on the couch, knowing if she slept there too long her neck would start aching.
"Hey Mel," she yawned.
"I have a lot to tell you but for now go to your room and sleep." I smile softly.
"I was waiting for you, dumbass." She grumbled to herself, whilst walking to her room.
I also went back to my room and opened my closet. I pushed my clothes and picked up the photo frame, with a picture of me and my mum.
"Hey momma.." I whispered to the picture "I went on my first date yesterday." And I tell her all about my date with Jayden.
"Also I was a fake fiancé for a billionaire today," I laughed through tears. Knowing that if my mum was there she would have probably laughed with me.
Tear drops fall onto the frame. My mum had passed away. I missed her every day and a moment didn't go past when I didn't think of her.
I took a paper towel and wiped away my tear drops off the frame and my face. I placed the frame back into my closet and went to sleep.
The next morning I woke up to the commotion of Jasmine getting ready in the morning. I stretched in my bed before going to the bathroom and washing my face. I decided not to shower today since I don't wanna dry out my hair, and would prefer to have a relaxing shower tonight rather than a rushed one now. I washed my face and lounged around the house in my pyjamas.
I had nothing to do today so I decided to call Jayden. The phone rang for a bit before he picked up.
"Hey Amelia, what's up," he answered.
"I didn't have to go to work today so I was wondering if you were free to hang out?" I said nervously.
"Um.." he thought "I'm off for lunch at 1 so do you wanna meet at the café on Beagle Street."
"Okay sure, I'll see you in an hour." I say and hang up.
I get off the couch and decide to get ready. I put on blue skinny jeans and a cropped black hoodie along with black sneakers and a couple of silver bracelets. I put my hair in a high ponytail and decide to walk to café since I had time to kill.
I placed the earbuds into my ear and listened to some music whilst walking. When I arrived at the café I soon realised that this was the place where I slapped Xavier about a week ago. I smiled at the memory before sitting down at a table and waiting for Jayden.
After about five minutes I see Jayden enter the café. His eyes scan the café and when they rest on me I see a smile emerge onto his face.
"Hey," he says sitting on the seat opposite me.
I was about to speak when a waitress came to take our order. Jayden ordered a cappuccino and I ordered a pumpkin spice latte.
"I see your inner white girl shining," he jokes, when he hears my order.
I roll my eyes but smile anyway. We spent about an hour talking and joking around before Jayden had to go back to work. We both got up and walked out the restaurant. He stood in front of me, his brown eyes looking into mine.
He places his lips onto mine, giving me a small kiss before pulling away. His face has an immediate look of worry.
"I'm sorry if you weren't ready for that," he lets out.
"It's okay...I liked it." I say before going on my tip toes and planting another small kiss onto his lips.
He smiles before glancing at his watch, "s**t I gotta go." he says, I nod and we walk to his car where he kisses me goodbye once more.
I start walking back home when I see a familiar car parked behind Jayden's. It was Xavier's Porsche, and inside he was, staring at me as he was on the phone with someone else.
I felt embarrassed, wondering if he saw me kiss Jayden. I liked to be private about these type of things.
I flashed him a quick smile and an awkward wave before speed walking away from there.
Chapter 8
AMELIA POV
The rest of the day went by in a blur and soon enough I was back in the office. I was sitting on my desk sorting out files when I hear a knock on my door.
"Miss Davis?" Xavier says "Can I come in?"
"Yeah." I yell out
"You need to talk to Mr Walker about the Australian deal, he expects a call at 2 pm."
"But what if he recognises my voice?" I say, not wanting to ruin this deal for Xavier's sake.
"You can tell him that you're my assistant, that is how we met Miss Davis." he says and walks out.
I pick up the phone ad ring Mr Walker, he picks up immediately.
"Good afternoon, this is King's Corporate speaking for Mr Walker," I say.
"Well if it isn't the future Mrs King," he replies. How the hell could he tell it was me?
"Good afternoon Mr Walker, I'm here to discuss the shipping of your products to the US from Australia." I say, sounding professional.
"Well, I am still in the US so I would rather discuss this in person, over lunch maybe?" he says, and I could just tell he had his ugly smirk on his face.
"Sure, Mr King is available tomorrow at from 2pm to 4pm," I say
"Oh I'm sorry did I not make it clear? I would like to have lunch with you Amelia, you are the one I want...to discuss with." he says slyly.
"Oh of course," I say nervously "I'll see you at 2pm tomorrow, please email me where you would like to meet." I quickly hang up before he has the chance to say anything.
I go to Xavier's office and knock. He gestures for me to come in through the door.
"Good afternoon Mr. King, I have some news." he just nods for me to continue talking. "Mr Walker would rather meet over lunch to discuss the shipment."
"Isn't that something you could've emailed me?" he says, whilst reading a file.
"Well he wants to meet me." I say nervously "since I'm convinced that he doesn't believe that our 'engagement' is real. " I say.
His head shoots up and he looks at me. His relaxed expression stiffens. "I see." he says. "Well you must go Miss Davis, it's an extremely important deal."
I shift awkwardly, "Are you sure no one can go in my place?" I say.
"I know that Mr Walker makes you feel uncomfortable, therefore I will attend this lunch meeting with you," he says.
"Oh that's not necessary," I wave off awkwardly, I didn't want to be around Mr King if I didn't need to and pretending to be his fiancé again wouldn't help.
"It actually is quite perfect, we would show up as a couple, clearing any of his doubts about our engagement and I can discuss the deal with face to face." he explains. "Just remember to wear your ring and decent clothes."
"Alright sir, I'll email you the location and time," I say, giving up on the idea of me going without him. At lunch I go and find Jodie before telling her about Mr Walker.
"He's so creepy and he has this perverted face and---"
"Wait...what did you say his name was?" Jodie interrupts.
"Bradley Walker," I say, with a mouthful of chicken pasta.
She places her head into her hands out of embarrassment. "What happened?" I say, concerned.
"He's my brother," she says, almost shamefully.
"No he's not." I laugh humourlessly.
"Unfortunately he is," she mumbles. Then I realised that they both had similar facial features and Australian accents even though his was a lot stronger, since he lived in Australia- where his business was based.
"Your Jodie Walker?" I ask, raising an eyebrow, and she nods.
"Wait so why do you not work in his company?" I ask.
"I hate his guts." she said, judging her tone I decided not to question it further.
"Well...Mr King and I need to have lunch with him tomorrow, for a business deal " I say, nervously not knowing how she would react.
"Just take as much of his money as you can," she mutters under her breath.
The next morning I got up extra early to make myself 'decent' as Xavier had put it. I wore a loose white blouse and a tight knee length pencil skirt. I wore nude 4 inch heels, which would put me at a decent height next to Xavier, and silver earrings. I applied a little makeup but nothing too noticeable.
I put the ring Xavier gave me on my ring finger and looked at it. It felt weird, I wasn't used to wearing rings, let alone expensive and heavy ones. I looked at myself in my and took a deep breath before leaving the house.
I got a cab to the office where I saw Xavier getting out of his car and walking into the building as well.
"Miss Davis," he greets me.
"Morning sir," I say, and walk alongside him.
"Be outside the building at 2, to meet Mr Walker." He demands as we enter the building. He goes into his private elevator to go to his office.
I look closer to see that he's held the elevator open for me and is gesturing for me to come inside. I smile at his actions and go into the elevator.
I see people, especially women, giving me dirty looks and then I see Jodie at her desk raising her eyebrows at me.
"We will talk about this," she mouths to me and I nod, knowing there is nothing to discuss.
"What made Xavier King do an act of kindness?" I tease but he doesn't find it funny.
The elevator stops at the top floor and we both silently go to our own offices. I do some work until about 1:30pm when Xavier knocks on my door.
"Ready to leave?" He pops his head into my room.
"Yeah," I say and follow him down the stairs. Luckily there was no one on the main floor of the building so no one saw us leave.
He opens the door of his car for me and I sit in the passenger seat, thanking him.
"It's the least I can do for my fiancé." He mutters sarcastically.
Throughout our ride in the car I keep on attempting to have a conversation with Xavier but he's replying with grunts or is just ignoring me.
