Not the response I expected. “Thanks for your concern,” I muttered. “Look, I have to get back to work.” He clasped my forearms gently and drew my eyes to his. “I’m sorry. You’re just so distracting. I’ll make sure everything is okay, all right? You have nothing to worry about.” I nodded, reminding myself to trust him. Lochlan had been unerringly supportive in his own mercurial, brutish way. I sent him away with a smile, only realizing after the doors had closed that I’d completely forgotten to tell him about removing the necklace. Clearly, I hadn’t reverted to fully human, or he would have noticed himself. I wasn’t exactly disappointed. I’d known that would likely be the case, but I’d held out a small degree of hope. It had taken years to enact the transformation. It only made sense it would take years to reverse. FOR THE SECOND time that week, I came home to find Lochlan waiting for me in my apartment. “You’re back.” I set down my bags and closed the front door. “I didn’t expect to see you again so soon.” When I turned back around to face him, he’d closed the distance between us in the blink of an eye. I found myself toe-to-toe with every hard inch of his six-foot frame. My eyes slowly rose to meet his, and my breath hitched at the raw hunger in his eyes. “I needed to see you. All of you.” His mouth slammed down on mine, tongue plunging deep between my lips. I opened to him, relishing his branding touch. His kiss was even more demanding than it had been before, surprising me with its urgency. His hand left my back and snaked around to knead my breast. His touch was possessive. Ravenous. He took, and I gladly gave. He lifted me, guiding my legs around his waist, then started for the stairs. Apparently, it was time to finish what we’d started. Neither of us spoke, but no words were needed. We were starving for one another. Weeks of pent-up desire had boiled over and ignited a chain reaction of uncontrollable lust. I couldn’t speak for him, but for me, I was finally able to drop my guard because I knew I was free. I could be with him and not worry about alliances or consequences or motives. This was simply two people sharing in their mutual desire. That, and in a way, it was a goodbye. It wouldn’t be long, and I’d be going home, but this wasn’t the time to tell him. This was about us, and I wanted it to be as perfect as I knew it could be. I kissed and sucked on his neck, absently noting that he’d worn cologne for a change over his normal woodsy scent. It smelled good on him, though I liked his natural scent as well. Something about his pheromones spoke to the chemicals in my body on a primal level. I could almost feel the endorphins release at the slightest trace of his masculine scent. Cologne was good, but endorphins were better. When we reached my room, he set me on my feet and began to strip off my clothes between kisses. That morning, I’d been feeling powerful and had chosen a black lace bra and underwear set. Now, I was especially grateful for the decision. His hungry eyes roved over every inch of me. I had hoped to have the pleasure of watching him undress—to see each inch of him revealed one savory muscle at a time. However, the second the last scrap of my clothes fell to the floor, his clothes disappeared from his body as though he’d never been wearing any. We were too close for me to get a good look, but I assured myself there’d be time later. He lowered us onto the bed, his body towering over mine. His head lowered, and he took one of my hard peaks into his warm mouth, rolling his tongue around and around the pebbled n****e until I was writhing in pleasure. “This is all I ever wanted. To have you mindless beneath me.” His guttural tone resonated in my core, and my hips flexed, helplessly trying to soothe the ache. “I need more,” I murmured. A wolfish grin split his face, and he lowered himself down my body, burying his face in my folds, lapping at my c**t. I screamed out in pleasure, the sensations overwhelming me each time his rough tongue licked across my swollen flesh. My head fell back into the pillow, my fingers gripping his thick curly hair. It had been so long since I had been with a man that I raced toward my release. Once my legs began to quiver and shake, Lochlan stopped, rising back up to align our bodies again. His scalding erection pressed against my belly, and my legs fell open in invitation. “Is this what you want? Tell me you want my cock.” “I do. I want to feel you inside me.” He didn’t delay a second longer, thrusting into me in one swift motion. My body tensed at the sudden intrusion but quickly stretched to accommodate his size. His breaths were stuttered, equally as affected by our connection as I was. Once we had both recovered, he slowly pulled out almost all the way before slamming back inside, burying himself all the way to my womb. A wanton moan escaped my throat as he rocked faster and faster into my body, his hand snaking around to rub my c**t in rhythmic circles. “Oh God, Lochlan. It feels so good.” His pace picked up even more to an almost punishing rhythm, and his head lowered to my neck, where he licked and sucked. My muscles started to contract, already primed from his earlier attention. Just as my body exploded in o****m, his teeth clenched the base of my neck. He thrust his release deep inside me, unleashing a victorious roar at the same time. The pain of his bite added to the pleasure of the moment, and I rode wave after wave of bliss as he languidly slowed his pace. As the last shudders ghosted through me, he rolled himself onto his side, pulling my back against his chest. “I knew we’d be incredible together,” Lochlan murmured behind me. I smiled. “Well, if it weren’t for my eyes…” I trailed off, thinking we would have already discovered how good we’d be together had I not panicked. “What about your eyes?” he asked sleepily. Surely, he hadn’t forgotten. Maybe he was just so s*x drunk he didn’t understand that I was referencing our discussion about my one-of-a-kind black eyes that had stopped us from having s*x a few days earlier. That would make him awfully s*x drunk. I didn’t imagine Lochlan would brush aside such a pivotal conversation. “Yeah, if I hadn’t freaked out, we’d already have slept together,” I reminded him. “Ah, yeah. I’m glad we waited. This was so much better.” Huh. I’m not sure I understand, but okay.
