Chapter 3.
—
"Souls don't meet by accident."
—
Reece.
—
"How the f**k did this s**t happen ?!" Kicking the closest coffee table nearby, the men looked at each other while East rolled his blunt.
Reece got a call that the warehouse in one of the other territories they owned got robbed, it was the last thing he expected. What bothered him the most was that they didn't come for their main warehouse as he would expect, they came from a low-key warehouse on the same block he got gifted to show that he was ready to be a leader.
This definitely means war, this wasn't just about the drugs and money that got stolen. This was a straight jab towards his pride.
"Did y'all see anything happen ?" Reece pinched the bridge of his nose before looking at the young boys that witnessed the robbery.
"They had masks on." One boy shook his head.
"How much ?" He sighed, closing his eyes, trying to calm down the anger rising inside him. He was a walking time bomb right now and just slowly ticking off.
"A stash worth around 200k." The other mumbled, East sat down in the corner, inspecting the reaction of his little brother. This was a big robbery, one of the biggest they ever came across, and he was curious at the reaction Reece was about to give.
"They are dead." He whispered, causing East to smirk.
"Where are you going ?" East looked at his little brother who stood up from where he was seated.
"I'm out, I got s**t to do. Go get Zane, I promised to pick him up." Referring to his other brother before he walked out, Reece got inside his car and left.
After a small stop at his house to grab what he needed, he left again. With only one destination in mind.
Kings territory.
The same block he got tipped about, Money his block.
He parked his car outside a house that was filled with people in the front yard, they had a party going on. Blue everywhere.
He had an evil smirk on his face as he looked at the grenade he was holding inside his head, they were celebrating, celebrating the robbery.
But not for long, he thought as he smirked and started the car. Driving slowly by the house he used his teeth to pull the safety ring out of the grenade.
Before throwing the grenade in front of the house, it landed in the front yard, and he pushed the gas pedal. Speeding off as he drove away from the scene.
He could hear the screams and looked in his mirror to see the chaos he created, it reminded him of his own screams. It reminded him of that man.
When he was driving back, not caring about anything or anyone at the moment while he was smoking his blunt behind the wheel.
His phone started ringing, and he looked down, seeing an unknown phone number, he pressed the green button.
"Who dis ?" He asked while turning into his street.
"This is NYPD-"
"Aw hell naw now I have to go and change my number." Reece sighed.
"I'm calling about your brother Zane." The voice spoke.
"The f**k ?" Reece was confused, he thought his brother was with East.
"He got arrested along with your older brother, Zane is free to go because your older brother took everything on him, but Zane is a minor, and he needs someone to come pick him up. We called your mother, but she's not picking up the phone." The officer said, and Reece felt another wash of anger flow over him, people just love to test him today.
"Throw his ass back in jail, maybe he will learn." He said.
"Like you learned? I'm afraid we can't do that sir." The officer chuckled.
"Damn." Reece sighed and put his car in reverse to turn around.
"I'll be there, make sure he's ready to get his ass beat."
—
Indigo.
—
"I still don't know why the f**k I'm here." Indigo sighed as she looked around the office she was in.
The police station is the last place she thought she would end up today, but they came to get her in class. She found out soon that they were questioning her about a specific family member.
"This is you, right ?" Officer Jackson spread out a couple of pictures over his desk, her eyes widened as they showed Indigo and her uncle when they were shopping at the mall last week.
"So you not only embarrass me at school and make it seem like I'm a criminal, but you are also stalking me ?" She glared at him.
"How do you know him ?" He ignored her assumption.
"That's my uncle, why the f**k are you stalking me ?" She was freaked out, and angry. He had no right to take pictures of her like that.
"Are you with them ? Did you join their gang ?" He asked, leaning back in his chair, ignoring another question she asked.
"I don't know about no gang." She shook her head, folding her arms.
"And the Pirates ?" He pushed.
"Don't know who that is, can I go now ?" She was growing more annoyed by the second she was in this office.
"Here." She raised her eyebrow as she watched him lay his card with his phone number in front of her, she looked at the card before looking back at him.
He sighed and nodded his head.
"Did you know Manoe ?" He asked.
"Heard of her name before, don't know the hoe." She mumbled, thinking about the stories she heard in the hood.
Officer Jackson stood up and walked to the file closet behind him, he pulled out a red big file with an unsolved label on it.
Sitting back down, he opened the file.
"I'm not allowed to show you this but-"
"You are not allowed to stalk me either, you all get paid too much." Indigo cut him off, picking at her nails.
"Manoe was your age and my first case when I got this job, she joined the Kings where your uncle is active in Harlem and I tried to stop her and keep her away. At first, she didn't want my help until something happened, and suddenly she wanted full protection from the police. She never told me why, and then she went missing. A couple of weeks after that, we found her like this." He opened the file, showing the pictures inside. He was going against a lot of rules and could get suspended by showing this, but he couldn't let Indigo go the same path as Manoe. Not another young girl.
Indigo, her eyes widened, staring at the pictures of a young brown skin girl with a body filled with bruises and cuts.
Her face was unrecognizable, on at least one side.
"It was a dog." Officer Jackson pointed at her face on the picture, he understood that he had to put the pictures away at the look on Indigo's face.
"I don't want to scare you, I'm just showing you the reality of these gangs." He closed the file and folded his arms over his chest, the one thing he said that he didn't want to do. He did. Scare her.
She stared at him and blinked, refusing to break. Looking down at Officer Jackson's card that was still on the desk in front of her. She chewed on her bottom lip before reaching up and slipping the card from the desk, to her side, into the pocket of her jacket.
"I will call your mom to come and pick you up." Officer Jackson said.
"No, please, she will kill me if she has to pick me up at the police." Indigo shook her head.
"I'll make sure she knows it wasn't for a crime or anything bad." He reassured, and she squinted her eyes at him, before nodding her head.
"Thank you." She spoke softly.
"You can wait outside in the hallway, you don't have to stay in here." He nodded, and she stood up, stepping out into the hallway. Finally feeling like she's able to breathe again.
"Aye, stop wasting my time bruh, come on. Hello !" The sound of loud banging made her head snap to the side, she rolled her eyes at the guy that was banging onto the glass screen at the front desk, while the woman behind was looking unbothered by him. She rolled her eyes before sitting down across from Officer Jackson, his office.
"Sir, please go sit down, your brother will be out in a minute." The woman behind the front desk finally acknowledged him, he cursed underneath his breath and pushed himself away from the counter he was leaning on.
Walking past a volunteering poster that said 'Do you want to be our colleague ?' he gathered his saliva inside his mouth before releasing it on the poster covered wall. Indigo scrunched her nose up at the sound of someone spitting, looking to her side, she noticed the red bandana wrapped around his hand and rolled her eyes. Of course, she thought.
He plopped down into the chair, leaving one chair between them. Nobody else was inside the hallway except for the front desk lady behind her desk who was now occupied with her headphones looking at her phone.
The guy glanced to his side, seeing a female he has never seen around here before. He stared, and she glanced at him making eye contact, holding his stare she expected him to look away, but he didn't. He held his ground in their staring battle until she broke eye contact and her eyes went back to the floor, biting her bottom lip.
His heart jumped at that, he wanted to hear her speak. In the back of his mind, something was screaming at him.
His eyes traveled down, looking at the clothes she was wearing. She was wearing some skinny jeans with a black jacket and some Air Force 1's.
She huffed as she could feel his eyes on her, the gentleman inside him looked away at the wall in front of him. Staring at another poster.
"Ain't nobody wants to be the f*****g police." He mumbled, rolling his eyes, a small smile spread on Indigo's face as she let out an unexpected giggle. His heart jumped again, a reaction caused his head to snap back at her, hearing the sound of her leaving her lips.
This time he couldn't hold himself in check with the staring.
"Staring is rude, you know ?" She finally decided to say something and looked at him, mugging him. She was beautiful to him.
"I'm Reece." He introduced.
"I know who you are, but I just don't care." She shrugged.
"You think you though huh? What u in here for you little criminal." He c****d his head to the side.
"Just for your information, I did nothing wrong. I'm no criminal." She shook her head.
"Every criminal says that." He chuckled.
"Man, f**k you." Smacking her lips, she just wanted to disappear from this place.
"You shouldn't cuss, you're too beautiful for that." He shook his head and she looked at him, narrowing her eyes.
"Get fucked." She snapped before turning her head again, he chuckled before silence settled over them.
"You got a man ?" He asked sliding down into the seat next to hers.
"You seriously doing this in a police station ?" She had an annoyed look on her face, he loved it. It lit something inside him knowing he had an effect on her, he never did this but he liked it. With her.
He nodded with a hopeful look in his eyes, a look that didn't go unnoticed by Indigo.
"I don't." She shook her head.
"Good, so I don't have to shoot no one before I do this." He paused standing up to take his phone outta the pocket of his jeans, Indigo looked up.
"Damn you tall." She couldn't help but mention.
"Put your number in my phone." He handed her the phone, she debated because he don't know her or who she is. But she does know who he is, she knows he's a Piru Blood.
Her eyes widened slightly as she saw the name Zane and recognized the contact phone, she's going to the same school as him and wondered how they knew each other. She handed his phone back after putting her number into the mobile device.
"Thank you my beautiful lady." He smiled, sitting this close to him she noticed how good-looking he actually is, and couldn't help but blush at his compliment.
"So what's up, tell me something." He leaned back and opened his legs wide, making theirs touch.
"You really doing this inside a Police station right now ?" She asked causing him to nod.
"You got somewhere to be ?" He raised his eyebrow.
"I'm in college." She said.
"Good, I like mine with a brain." He nodded his head, scanning her over again.
"You want to know something ?" He leaned his elbows on his knees, staring at her. He was so close to her that she could smell his cologne, she nodded for him to continue what he was about to say. He had her in a trance, it was wrong and she knew it. But she liked it.
"I don't play games, I'm straight to the point. Always, I'm hard to love I got baggage but I also love hard. I don't f**k around about what I feel and I won't lie and cheat. When I feel you, it's going to be you. I don't even know your name and you got me out here sounding like Drake, just give me your name." He said, his confidence was a turn-on. How he talked and presented himself was a turn-on.
He leaned closed, waiting for an answer.
"Indigo." She whispered as he leaned closer to the side and his lips touched her cheek, his hand trailed around her throat and a small gasp escaped past her lips.
"You are so f*****g beautiful Indigo." He whispered brushing his thumb over her bottom lip, how did they get to this?
"I'm gon take you out tomorrow." He dropped his hand from around her throat, resting it on her leg.
"Where ?" She felt flustered, she was debating if it was a good idea but one look from him and all the doubts she had run out of the window.
"You'll see, I'll pick you up from school." He tapped her knee.
"Indigo !" Both of them jumped and Reece looked up seeing an older version of the girl next to him.
"Yes mom." Indigo rolled her eyes, her mom looked at Reece giving him a glare before looking back at her daughter.
"This is what you are doing now instead of going to school? Getting arrested ?" Her mom folded her arms over her chest, at that moment Officer Jackson stepped out of his office after hearing the noise her mother made.
"Ma'am this is a misunderstanding, if you would like to come in for a second I can explain. Indigo you too." Officer Jackson looked at Indigo who nodded before glancing at Reece who sent her a wink.
She blushed as he watched her go inside behind her mother, Officer Jackson looked at Reece with a disapproving look causing him to mug him.
"What ?!" He snapped, Officer Jackson ignored the behavior and went inside his office closing the door behind him.
At that moment he spotted his younger brother being guided down the hallway with two officers holding him on both sides and his hands cuffed behind his back.
"Is all of this really necessary? He's 17." Reece looked confused, they were escorting him like he was the biggest criminal while he was about to get released.
"He's free to go because your older brother took everything we found inside the car on him, but next time we see his my daddy is in jail face on the streets we will make sure he remembers ours forever, understood ?" The officer looked at Reece while Zane was getting uncuffed.
"Original, a racist police officer," Reece spoke sarcastically.
"Plus your mouth stinks," Zane mumbled, the officer pushed the 17-year-old boy forwards into the arms of his older brother.
"Get your ass outside, right now." Reece gritted once the two officers left, he turned around and walked away. Zane sighed and knew he was about to get it.
