Show Me

SLOANE It had been a whole week since she moved in. I tried all I could to frustrate her to leave but she refused to leave. I was however confident in the fact that this was just the beginning. The news of Father’s infidelity and his secret lovechild broke like a damn tidal wave. Prime gossip material for bored executives and backstabbing socialites. I expected backlash or maybe even a few sympathy calls but there was praises for him everywhere. Praises for having a backup. No one talked about how my father cheated on my mother before their divorce. No one cared that the girl came out of nowhere, waving her 50%. To everyone, I was just the screw up. The reckless disappointment and the playboy son who didn’t deserve the crown. And her? She was the golden ticket. The miracle bastard. And as if the betrayal wasn’t enough, she’d started acting like the heir too. Showing up in board meetings like she belonged there. Speaking with authority, like she wasn’t just a glorified stranger with a golden surname. In just a week, she’d climbed ladders that took people even years to see. The media adored her and she was tagged ‘The unexpected jewel of Black Oak Conglomerate’. Investors listened when she spoke. Employees stood when she entered a room. Hell, even the Chairman of the Board had started referring to her ‘as the future of the company’ She was making my life a living hell both at home and at the office. She was half way to the top and the world was practically cheering her on and I was ignored like I didn’t exist. Staffs murmured as I walked into the office and I knew it was because of her. “Good morning, boss.” Titan spoke as he walked right after me into the office. He was the only assistant who still cared about me genuinely. “You have been seeing all that lady has been doing, right?” I questioned and he nodded. “I do not believe it. Something in me tells me she has a motive.” I tapped the table lightly. “Find out everything you can about that lady.” “I will do everything you desire.” He spoke and stepped out of the room. I could barely concentrate all through the day. I picked up my phone and dialed my mother’s number. She hadn’t returned to stay at the house since that lady came in. “Hey son.... when are you coming?” Mother spoke, sounding so calm and collected. I rolled my eyes and leaned backward. “The question should be from me to you. You cannot leave our house because of that lady, Mother. That is our house. Our inheritance.” I rubbed my forehead. Why on earth was Mother acting like this? “It is yours and her inheritance, not mine. If you cannot cohabit with her peacefully, then I think it is best you leave the house. Remember he is her father as well.” She responded. “I don’t know what’s going on with you, Mother. I don’t know why you are so chill about a man who cheated on you and still had the guts to divorce you even when you did nothing wrong to him. I am not going to let go of this. This house means a lot to me and I do not care whoever wants to fight me for it but I am never leaving the house. This is my promise to you.” I ended the call. Willow Mercer. Why was she insisting on staying in that house? I couldn’t sit still. I grabbed my phone and dialed one of my men, “I need two girls. Get them ready for tonight.” I muttered. Just as I ended the call, a sudden sense of unease washed over me. My father had played me. He had left me a burden I didn’t deserve and the last thing I needed was more complications. I called my man back within minutes “Scratch that. Don’t arrange anything. I don’t need it.” I spoke sharply and leaned back into the chair. I had to distract myself. I was about to pick up the phone for the second time when the door to my office suddenly opened. I looked up, half expecting a positive message from Titan but instead, I froze for a split second, my mind trying to process what I was seeing. “I am sorry, sir... I tried to stop her.” My secretary spoke right after her. I stood up gently and then, dismissed the secretary. “What the hell are you doing here?” I spoke coldly as my gaze was fixed on her. It was Autumn . She was one of the women I’d been involved with. One of my former flings. “Aren’t you excited to see me?” She stepped in without asking, her heels clicking against the hardwood floor. “You were supposed to be mourning your father, not making business deals and running away from your responsibilities.” I tapped my fingers lightly on the table. “I am not going to repeat myself. What are you doing here?” I clenched my fist. “Well, I am amongst the millions of people who heard that your father has another child aside you. I mean your half sister...” She tilted her head and I could not help but wonder why she had come to annoy me. “But I can boldly say... that I am one of the few people she calls her true friend.” My eyes narrowed as I looked up at her and my brain already calculating and thinking of some crazy ideas. She on the other hand, had a grin etched to her face. I didn’t know for what purpose she has come here or what her motive was but somehow.......it did seem like it would work in my favor. “She is your friend? The lady making my life a living hell is your friend?” I sat up. “My best friend as a matter of fact. She is a sweet girl and I assure you her presence will make you so happy. She is a rare gem and she wants a close relationship with you. She has no negative intentions towards you and I think it will be in your best interest to not trouble her since you both have the house. “She smiled and stood up. “I still care about you though.” All I did was stare as she stood up and walked out of my office. This..... this seemed like an opportunity. One I must not let to slide away. “Boss....” Titan rushed in with a tablet in his hands. “I think we’ve got something on her. Your half-sister.” I knew it. I knew there was something about her. Something I could take her out with. "Show me."
