Chapter 19 – The Hidden Cabin

359 Words
Adithyan and Riya stood frozen at the door of the cabin. The wooden door had creaked open, revealing a dark and quiet room inside. "Is someone inside?" Riya whispered, her voice shaking. Adithyan held up a hand, signaling her to stay behind him. "Stay close to me," he said, stepping inside cautiously. The cabin smelled of damp wood and dust. It was small, with only one old table, a wooden chair, and a rusty metal shelf filled with papers. Adithyan turned on his flashlight, scanning the room. Everything looked untouched—except for one thing. The chair was lying on the floor. "Someone was here," he murmured. Riya pointed at the shelf. "Maybe Vikram left something there?" Adithyan nodded and walked towards it. He carefully flipped through the dusty papers. Most of them were old newspapers, but then—he found something. A small notebook hidden between the pages. "This looks important," he said, opening it. Inside, there were hurriedly written notes, some names, and what looked like a map. Then, Riya gasped. "Look at this!" She pointed to a page with a name written in big, bold letters. ARAVIND NAIR. Underneath, Vikram had written one sentence: "He is not who he says he is." Adithyan’s grip tightened around the notebook. "Vikram knew something dangerous about him." Suddenly— CRACK! A noise came from outside the cabin. Adithyan quickly turned off the flashlight. Riya grabbed his arm, fear in her eyes. They stood still, listening. Footsteps. Slow. Careful. Coming closer. Someone was outside. Someone had followed them. Adithyan moved quickly. He grabbed Riya’s hand and pulled her towards the back of the cabin. There was a small window. "Climb out," he whispered. "But—" "Now!" Riya hesitated but obeyed, slipping out of the window. Adithyan followed right after, landing softly on the ground. Just as they hid behind a tree— BAM! The front door of the cabin burst open. Several men in black entered, guns in their hands. Riya held her breath, gripping Adithyan’s arm. Adithyan whispered in her ear, "We can’t stay. We need to run." Riya nodded. And together, they disappeared into the dark forest.
