“She’s out,” I linked Seth. Ember was deeply asleep. If I could, I would have kept her in my arms all afternoon, but her human body needed time to recover in a way a wolf’s wouldn’t. I knew once I let my animal side take over I would exhaust her, but she hadn’t seemed to mind him. I tried to keep that side of myself measured around her, unsure of how she was still adjusting to everything.
I dressed her in one of my robes and laid her down. She looked peaceful. I took a cold shower. It didn’t help much. The feel of her was still everywhere in my head. I finished quickly, got dressed, and walked past her sleeping with a smile on her face.
