Carter “She’s out,” I linked Seth. Ember was deeply asleep. If I could, I would have kept her in my arms all afternoon, but her human body needed time to recover in a way a wolf’s wouldn’t. I knew once I let my animal side take over I would exhaust her, but she hadn’t seemed to mind him. I tried to keep that side of myself measured around her, unsure of how she was still adjusting to everything. I dressed her in one of my robes and laid her down. She looked peaceful.
