Episode7_The first day inside

Morning arrived quietly at St. Alden’s Academy, but inside the campus, nothing truly felt quiet. Expensive cars moved steadily through the entrance gates while students crossed the large stone pathways in clean uniforms and calm confidence. Everything about the school carried order, structure, and silent pressure. Elena stepped out of the Harrington staff vehicle slowly, her eyes taking in the towering buildings ahead of her. For a moment, she simply stood there, not intimidated, just observant. Beside her, Rosa adjusted Elena’s collar gently before brushing invisible dust from her sleeve. “You look perfect already,” she said softly. Elena smiled slightly. “You’ve said that three times.” “Because I’m your mother,” Rosa replied immediately. John Parker closed the car door behind them before looking up at the massive academy building ahead. “This place still looks like it teaches kings and arrests poor people.” Rosa sighed tiredly. “John.” “What?” he defended lightly. “Look at those gates. Even breathing here feels expensive.” A soft laugh escaped Elena before she quickly covered her mouth. Even Rosa smiled this time , but beneath the humor, Elena noticed something else. John kept looking around too carefully, not like someone impressed. Like someone remembering. The feeling stayed quietly in Elena’s mind as they walked further into the academy grounds. Inside the main hall, students and parents moved calmly through orientation while academy staff guided them from one section to another. Voices blended softly beneath the high ceilings, but Elena noticed how differently people carried themselves here. Everything felt measured and controlled. Even the students spoke carefully. As registration continued, several students began noticing Elena too. Not loudly, just small glances at first. The scholarship girl. The new face. The quiet student stands calmly instead of nervously. A blonde girl nearby looked Elena over briefly before whispering something to her friend. Elena pretended not to notice. She had already learned that silence often revealed more than reactions did. Near the registration desk, an academy coordinator reviewed Elena’s documents carefully before nodding politely. “Excellent screening scores,” the woman said while handing over her orientation file. “Thank you,” Elena replied calmly. The woman studied her for another moment. “You respond very confidently for someone new to this environment.” Elena hesitated slightly before answering softly. “I think new places become easier when you observe first.” For a second, the woman simply looked at her. Then slowly, she smiled. “That mindset will help you here.” The woman handed Elena a small orientation booklet before pausing again. “Did you already review the campus map?” she asked casually. Elena glanced down once. “Yes.” The woman looked surprised. “Already?” “It was attached behind the enrollment packet earlier,” Elena replied softly. “I memorized it while waiting.” The coordinator blinked twice before letting out a small laugh. “Well… that explains a few things.” A nearby staff member briefly looked over after overhearing the exchange. Not because Elena sounded proud, but because she didn’t. A few steps away, John quietly overheard the conversation. Something unreadable crossed his expression briefly before he looked away again. Not far from the hall entrance, Damon Harrington had just entered the building with two other students when his eyes immediately found Elena across the room. “There she is,” one of the boys beside him muttered quietly. Damon ignored the comment. His attention remained on Elena as she stood beside her parents holding her orientation file calmly while students around her continued stealing small glances. “She doesn’t even look nervous,” another student whispered. Damon’s eyes narrowed slightly, because they were right. Most scholarship students enters St. Alden’s trying desperately to fit in. But Elena looked different. Not proud. Not insecure. Just steady. And somehow, that quiet steadiness attracted attention faster than confidence ever could. Across the upper-level balcony overlooking the hall, Professor Adrian Vale stood silently beside another senior staff member. His eyes rested below, directly on Elena. “She’s adapting quickly,” the staff member beside him observed. Professor Vale’s gaze remained steady. “Yes… faster than most students do.” The other man nodded casually. “That usually means confidence.” Professor Vale did not answer immediately. His eyes remained on Elena for one quiet second longer before he finally turned away. Below them, Elena slowly lifted her eyes toward the upper balcony. Toward the exact spot Professor Vale had just left. A faint crease formed between her brows. A strange feeling passed through her briefly, like someone had been watching her for longer than they should have. And somehow… it did not feel like the first time
