So I asked her again; "When I said that you had always been in my subconscious, why did you give that reply?". I continued; maybe I understand why you say men are funny though but I was saying the truth.
She looked at me, this time not with a smiley face as she asked how it could be possible.
Rosebeth: You don't need to exaggerate, how could I have been in your subconscious when you had seen me once and I didn't even know you?
Me: well, maybe the choice of words sounded extreme but I was telling the truth. I did think of you a few times.
Rosy looked at me with the side of her eyes, shook her head then said; "okay, I've heard you, I have". I understood her immediately and had to change the direction of our little chat, after all, my sole aim was to get her digits then I proceed from there. Just when I asked her how she's been fairing in their department, my phone rang it was Philip on the line. I picked the call and my friend was apologizing for taking so long he thought I had left since he'd been in his supervisor's office for about 1hr30mins.
Philip: I'm very sorry buddy, didn't know it would take that long I couldn't leave the meeting. What I had thought was just a kind of brief turned out bigger but I'm happy it did. Please, no vex"
When I told him I was still around he was a little surprised, not because he didn't see me but because I didn't try to reach him all through the time of their meeting. I told him to stay put that I'll be with him in a few minutes.
Rosebeth then asked who I was speaking to, I explained to her and she was quite surprised too. "You must be a nice guy" - was what she said. I smiled and had to move to achieve my aim…
Me: Rosy, I'd like to have your digits, that is the only way we can communicate.
Rosebeth: Rosy! Hmm, I like it when people call that. Even though you didn't do well in convincing me but I'll still give you. I have a feeling it'll be nice to keep in touch with you.
We exchanged numbers then left our separate ways, back to our respective friends. Philip sighted me and walked towards me with this naughty smile, I kept a straight face cos already knew what he was about to say. "That babe is damn pretty" - Philip said, I replied with "I know". He was expecting me to spill but I wasn't ready, I instead voiced my displeasure at him for not trying to reach via any means possible while I was waiting for him.
He apologized again and appreciated the fact that I stayed around, told him apology accepted(not like I have a choice though).
Philip: who is that lady I saw you with? I haven't seen her with you, and she is so fine.
I replied; "let's just say she's your guy's soon-to-be soulmate".
I continued; "I received her divinely six months ago, now it's happening"
Philip had concluded I was talking gibberish as he didn't understand what I had said, our mutual friend Sola was the only one who knew about the "mysterious lady I saw just once but won't stop thinking about". Philip tapped me and pointed in the opposite direction. It was Rosebeth waving to me, their lecturer had called them into his office so I hastily waved back. Her friends all noticed us and waved too. As the door was shut behind them my friend continued asking questions as we made our way out of the faculty building.
The next couple of days turned out the opposite of what I imagined, this lady had made chasing her become strenuous. I had been calling her for two weeks but wasn't picking there were days my calls will go to voicemail and eventually became unavailable. I couldn't fathom what had happened, I thought we were just fine when we exchanged numbers so I started making plans on how to see her again.
I did something crazy but needed because I had lost concentration on many things already, I thought it's better to made the move early so I can at least redirect my focus. It's my final year, I had just 3 days to the Defence of my 6months Industrial Training, and also need to focus on the final year project. So I concluded on what to do; I enquired about 300l accounting department lecture periods and venues from one of our juniors in the hostel, and I decided to pay a visit to the place in hope of seeing the girl that has taken over my heart.
I got to the venue few minutes to the start of their next lecture, so I got hold of the Class rep and urged him to help make announcement. It would've been easy for me to find Rosy but they were more than 1000 in the hall, going through the class rep was the best option for me. He obliged and made the announcement; "Hello everyone, seems there is an emergency outside. If you are Rosebeth Osadiomen, kindly go out now someone is waiting to see you under the tree".
I quickly made my way to the Mango tree not far from the lecture hall, few seconds after I had gotten there, here comes an angel-like being looking gorgeous and shining. For some seconds I was breathless with lips parted in awe of this amazing creature. She sighted me and stopped walking, tilted her head to make an expression; something like "really! really! An emergency indeed". I tried saying something but mouth couldn't open so I folded my arms and stared at her, she eventually came to me and finally said "Hello Dan".
For a minute, I kept looking into her eyes, I guess her shunning me for two weeks got me bewildered. "Aren't you going to say something?" she said, just when I had opened my mouth to talk we heard a voice called out her name. It was Tobi, her closest friend and roommate, she was worried about the announcement and decided to check on Rose…
Tobi: Oh oh! This is the emergency?
Rose: I was surprised too
Me: Tobi, I didn't mean to scare you Ladies. Your friend here left me no choice as I had to do something.
I continued;"I've been calling her line every hour of the past two weeks, didn't know if I offended her or something"
Rosebeth: No, something happened I didn't intentional snubbed your calls.
Tobi: Yes Daniel, she lost her phone and now we're trying to retrieve the lost line.
Me: Wow! I didn't know, I've been super worried and couldn't concentrate on many things.
Tobi: hmmm, I'm jealous oh.(then smiled)
Rosebeth: Tobi, as you can see everything is fine. Now you can go back to the hall will join you shortly.
Tobi tried teasing her by making some silly facial expressions as she was leaving. Well, from what I could deduced; the ladies surely had been talking about me too…
